Hi,
This afternoon, I went to the GYN for a nasty yeast infection. As I was being checked out the GYN said "you're very dry at your vaginal area, and your raw, in addition to your yeast infection, you must feel very uncomfortable". I told him that I figured it was the infection.

I told the GYN that my husband and I recently used the warming KY product - According to the GYN, the warming KY items is probably how I got the yeast infection - all the friction in the vaginal area that was raw.

So they gave me a sample of Premarin Vaginal Cream. I'm to use it 2 times a week, rub it around the front wall of the vagina. They said it will make a major difference in lovemaking (no more pain and it may help the libido) and the dryness. And more important - I won't get ripped apart in the vaginal area.

I told them I really don't want to take HRT - and they said it will not affect my whole body - just the vaginal area.

Is that true? Has anyone used the Premarin vaginal cream? When I'm done w/the sample - they gave me a prescrip. for Estace Cream - which is suppose to be like Premarin. Any side effects? Are there any alternative natural things that will moisturize the vaginal area w/no side effects? I must finish w/the yeast infection before I choose to try Premarin.

I'm concerned and upset w/this sad.gif .

Blessings,
Stacy

My doctor gave me a sample of the Premarin vaginal cream and, like you, I didn't want to use it. But I was very sore, so I did use a little and it seems to help. It also helped a bit with the libido. The irony is that my husband isn't interested anymore sad.gif

In any event, I've used the sample several times and it has helped, but hasn't caused any other symptoms. If I were going to get a prescription, I'd go with the Estrace on general principles, though.

Best of luck to you.

Thank you Mary for your input. You said "Estrace"...Wow - there are two different vaginal creams w/names that are close. Do you know what the difference is w/ Estace compared to Estrace? I value your experience and thoughts - and I would certainly switch the prescription from one to the other.

Your husband isn't interested anymore sad.gif ohmy.gif ...men carry on for years because they want more loving..and then they switch the opposite way. Male menopause perhaps. Geez...sometimes I don't understand then... I'm sorry for the emotional pain that has caused you.

How about using vitamin E & essential fatty acids ?After surgical menopause my gyn visits got painful from dryness. She gave me premarin creme but I had to stop it when oddities showed up in my breast biopsy. I kept the old applicator & use it to insert a vitamin E softgel capsule (200-400 IU) as far as I can into my vagina at night a few times a week. I also use a little Jason vitamin E oil 45,000 IU around the outside of the vagina. My last few gyn visits have been fine & dryness has all but vanished. One thing, I'm not sexually active so I don't know how it would work with women who are,but I first heard about vitamin E for dryness here at Power Surge.

I also take essential fatty acids along with my vitamins : evening primrose oil, omega 3 & omega 6, flax oil & vitamin E. It's great for all your skin You can find essential fatty acid combos for women as well as the Jason oil in health food stores, the Vitamin Shoppe & GNC.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone used estriol vaginal cream and gotten a yeast infection after using the cream or any estrogen cream for that matter.

My doctor thinks that I vaginal dryness causes yeast and other vaginal infections. I haven't started the estriol cream because the yeast must be gone before using
any estrogen cream since yeast thrive on estrogen.

This such a confusing time for me... any help would be appreciated.

Take care and thanks,

Plumeria

MaryO I was prescribed Premarin too. I can't use it much because there is breast cancer in my family. It's just for emergencies. I does help I find but my vaginal dryness comes and goes. sometimes I don't have it for weeks - then I get so dry that I'm sore and itchy and burning. I went to the doctor thinking I had a yeast infection but it was just vaginal dryness. I am sexually active but I don't know if that makes a difference - apart from it being more of a nuisance then.

Sugar'nspice Wow I won't use the warming lubricant if it causes yeast infections! I use premarin but my doctor told me to only use it sparingly when necessary. This is because I have breast cancer in my family and can't take homone treatment

Hi Skunky (love the name by the way biggrin.gif ),
Thanks for your response - you said you use Premarin sparingly - does that mean you use it once a week...once every few weeks?

A friend of mine didn't want to use a cream so she uses the Estace "pill" (similar to Premarin) that is placed in the vagina and she uses it 2 times a month - that works for her.

I'm educating myself and the meno. sisters about drying vagaina...and I'm learning quickly, phew - I'm exhausted!!

Good Afternoon;
I just went through 4 consecutive Yeast Infections and finally found out that my Diabetes had flared up, I had previously had in under control with Diet and no Diabetes Meds. Excess Sugar in your blood contributes to frequent yeast infections. I have now started new Meds for Diabetes and no more yeast infections.

Hi linderful,
Welcome to Power Surge...
Thanks for sharing the information... I had no idea that excess sugar can create a yeast infection... everyday is a learning day...

Hi: Another thing which I have heard that can be effective with Yeast Infections is soaking a Tampon in a High Quality Cod Liver Oil and inserting the Tampon overnight for up to 7 consecutive nights. Apparently the Cod Liver Oil restores the "Environment" and contributes to a natural flora growth. This is a Homeopathic Remedy.

Sugar'nSpice Couldn't answer you before - I was in Vegas on my annniversay - Saw Celine Dion - WOW!!
Anyway, about yor question. The doctor said it wouldn't do me any harm to use Premarin whenever I needed it - it is ME who is wary becaue my sister died of breast cancer when she was 50 - the same age I am now. My doctor said when I get dry to use it at night when I go to bed - once a week smile.gif Rita

Hi Rita -
Congrat's on your anniversary...glad you had a good trip too!!! Thanks for sharing the info. and the dosage that you take...

Tomorrow morning - I go to my GYN who I've had since I was 18 yoa- ohmy.gif- have I gone to him for 27 years..Wow - time has flown hasn't it. The other GYN assistant I needed to use a week and half ago was only a substitue because my GYN was totally booked... Anyway - I''m going to talk to my GYN about Estriol (Pete Huesman, consulting pharmacist of Power Surge has helped me immensely).

And linderful - thanks again for another all natural cure...thanks for sharing.

Guess what Mary O - you talked about Estrace - and I said Estace and I didn't know what the difference was ... Well - the difference was the GYN assistance wrote the prescription wrong - she wrote it Estace when it should have been Estrace... Go figure...
Blessings,
Stacy
