Full Version: 25 and having VERY disturbing period trends
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?
YoungArtist
I'm posting here because I'm scared and I need some good advice. I'm only 25 and I just got married less than 2 weeks ago, and I'm praying that this isn't already perimenopause. sad.gif Here's what's been happening:

It all started about 4 months ago. I noticed that my periods, which usually lasted about 6 days, were getting shorter and lighter. 2 periods in a row only lasted about 2 or 3 days and were much lighter than I was used to. The third period seemed back to normal, except that it started about a week late. Then my fourth period assaulted me with a new annoyance, arriving on time yet lasting over 8 days (during my wedding and throughout my honeymoon, no less!).

All of that I could've written off as being stress-related. However, three days after my last period stopped, this new one began. It came on suddenly with a heavy flow, appearing practically black in color and thicker than it's ever been. I'm currently on day three of this strange new period, and I'm really starting to worry.

I decided to come online for advice before seeking the aid of a doctor, as I'm newlywed and very low on money at the moment. I also don't think that there's much that can be done for me. In the past I've tried being on BCP as a form of contraceptive, but I've tried five different hormone variations of the Pill and all have given me debilitating migraines. I worry that any sort of hormone therapy, regardless of whether this is peri or not, will have the same effect.

As for other symptoms, I've always had problems with stress, depression, and anxiety, so it's hard for me to know if I'm experiencing any mood-related indicators of peri. I've also had a lack of libido for a number of years, and it drives me crazy since I wish I could enjoy it while I'm still young.

If anyone can give me any advice, I'd very much appreciate it. I'm worrying myself to death over here. sad.gif

Hi YA,

Considering your age, I'd suggest a drs visit... low on $$$ or not. This is a great place for advice & comparing symptoms but NOT for replacing the advice of your physician. I wouldn't want to take a chance on ignoring something & then if you find it's nothing, it will lower your stress level.

Good luck to you sweetie! wub.gif

Dear YoungArtist,
Your irregular periods could be from a number of many things such as thyroid,
hormone disorders, even a pregnancy! The only way to know is to see a doctor.

Please see if there is a clinic in your area that will make arrangenents to help
you with a low cost doctor's visit. Irregular bleeding can be serious, so please
see a doctor and you will get your quality of life back. This forum is not for
medical advise or to replace your doctor.

We are here for emotional support so please let us know what you find out from your doctor. You will certainly feel better after your doctor can diagnose you.

Wishing you the best.
