I see from reading previous posts that you've discussed this topic before....but I just want to vent today.
Got a call from my doctor this morning with my cholesterol results -- total cholesterol was 230 with the bad cholesterol being 150. This is up from the last test, and I'm already on Zocor. I usually use the hospital lab where I work to get the blood drawn but this time I had it drawn in her office since I had fasted. She said the difference could be because her office uses a different lab. She wants me to have it done again at the hospital.
So at lunch time today I went out and took a walk.....I'm hoping by increasing my exercise it will help...even a little. I stopped at the grocery store on the way back to work and stocked up on some fresh fruit to eat at work.
But the real kicker was the people in the grocery store. Most of them were grossly overweight and their carts were filled with junk food. And there I was....only about 20 lbs overweight and buying fruit.
I know life isn't fair....but this really depressed me today. Just wanted to vent to people who understand. Thanks for listening.

Hi honey,Well this is the right place for sure. I thought the same thing yesterday when I was hunting for some sensible food for dinner and dessert. There i was trying desperately to eat right and the lady behind me had every junkfood known to man in her cart. I had my swordfish and my sugar/fat free ice cream

heeheeI bet she gets heartburn and I didn't , so ha ha to her.I am also on zocor up from 20mg to 40 and Niaspan since my numbers weren't suiting my doc

I hope I can be a normal person again some day , but this might be as normal as I can get. What can I say , except I understand

and hopefully you will get it under control. That's the important thing to remember , that it will help you live longer . Even though at times I want to say "Give me a huge piece of cake so I can die happy " Bad jeanne!take care and don't be sad,we are in the same shaky boat .big hugs, jeanne

Hi Honey...
You know, when I was reading your post, I was thinking of what I also see in people's shopping carts at the grocery store. I am in somewhat the same boat as you are... my last cholesterol test (2 months ago) came back at 240, even though I have been taking Zocor for 2 yrs now and it was under 200 last year.
As do you and Jeanne, I also make a real effort to eat right, and feel kind of ticked when I see what other people eat. Lately, however, instead of feeling badly, I consider the fact that probably many of those people will soon have to fight cholesterol problems, if they aren't already. I also consider the fact that maybe they have high cholesterol and don't even know it. So, I sort of feel better with at least knowing I have the problem so I can try to do something about it. I think, in this case especially, "ignorance is bliss" can be deadly, and probably will be for many people who continue to eat all that junk food.

Honey, I'm right there with you! My husband and I are both thin aand both have high cholesterol. I get very depressed when I go to the grocery store and see eveerything that I want to buy and can't. I love to cook (and eat) but this fat-free diet makes it limited. I'm having my test done again in October and hopefully mine will be back down. Hugs from Gran......

Hi girls....
Just wanted to give you an update on my last cholesterol test. Total cholesterol is down  and all numbers look good. My doc is very happy with the results!
Looks like staying away from the junk food did have a positive outcome. But I'd still like to have a nice juicy hamburger, french fries and a piece of chocolate cake.
Thanx for listening!

Hi Honey,
Geez I got to teach you how to cheat :biggrin:When you go for a cholesterol test, leave the office and head for your favorite burger joint for a splurge day. I do this every 6-8 weeks since I have to have a test that often. Then I start being good again. :)You have all that time to eat right and that one day is a drop in the cholesterol bucket. At least that's what I do to reward myself.:cheesy:hugs, jeanne

Thanx for the sound advice -- some I'll definitely follow!!
Let's see....my next appt. is in about 3 months....if I splurge now that leaves me with plenty of time to behave myself. I can taste that hamburger already!
Amazing what you girls have taught me already.

Hi Everyone...
I just got results back from my latest cholesterol and thyroid tests.
My total cholesterol is down to 200 from the previous results a few months ago..240. Some of you might remember that, after the previous results, I posted that my doc wanted to raise my Zocor from 10 mg a day to 20 mg. I did not want to do that, and did not... in fact, I am hoping to be able to get off of the Zocor entirely. The good news is that my LDL has gone down to 130, and triglycerides to 140, but my HDL has also gone down some, from 47 to 40. I attribute the lowering of total cholesterol to using Revival Soy, but have not been able to take it everyday because it wreaks havoc on my digestive system, even with the enzymes they offer to take with it.
I have still not found any way to alleviate that, which makes me a pretty unhappy camper because I believe in it. I also have a question about the HDL.... can anyone tell me of ways to raise it, aside from exercise? I do try to exercise, but have problems with that because of osteo-arthritis in my knees.
In regard to my thyroid test, I am baffled. I have had an underactive thyroid for over 30 years, and have been taking medication for as long. As is normal, my medication has had to be increased as time goes by. About 4 months ago, my TSH was high....6.72 (normal range is 3-5, I believe), but my doc did nothing about it because my free thyroxine was in normal range. My new GYN was concerned more about the TSH, so she ordered another test, and my TSH results came back at 4.49 (normal range!). Now, how can my TSH change like that, without raising my medication? The only thing that has changed is that I have been taking the Revival Soy and the bio-identical hormones (bi-est, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA). Does anyone have any ideas on this?
Thanks for any input!

There is a natural safe solution to lowering your cholesterol. Ask your doctor to look at the 2002 Physicians Desk Reference on page 3321. This is the first natural product offered for the lowering of cholesterol ever published in the PDR. It does not damage your liver like the drugs!! The side effects will be , balanced blood sugars and you will loose weight. My husband lowered his cholesterol by 4 plus numbers in 6 weeks. Bios Life 2 is seven types of fiber and antioxidants. Our western processed foods do not provide this kind of fiber. Email me and I will tell you how to find this product. Like "Revival Soy Drink", you can't purchase in your local store.

Karen,
Thanks for the info....i'll be e-mailing you about this. Does this product also lower triglycerides? After using Lipitor for a year, I went off of it and started using oat bran pills, red yeast rice, and fiber pills.....all my numbers went back up, especially my trigs at almost 400. My doctor was livid and prescribed Tricor but i'm so afraid of damaging my liver. I just don't understand why some of us have so much trouble with cholesterol during menopause.
Thanks much,
Michele

Michelle,
I did alot of soul searching weeks before I decided to post here about my husband's success story with Bios Life (it wasn't my success story as you thought). How would this come across to the Power Surge participants? Would they think I was doing this for the money? I had to take the risk.
This product has helped my husband, son, my mother, brother-in-law and numerous friends. I recently introduced it to our Central Ohio Diabetes Board. It is not only helpful with lowering cholesterol, it helps stablize blood sugar. Fiber is helpful for our overall health!
I would have my doubts too. But I make decisions based on learning the solid facts. I am more than happy to pass the webiste to you or anyone who emails me. If you want to purchase through me, I'd be grateful but if you choose not to, that will be okay too.
II would like to encourage everyone to have your physician look at the 2002 Physicians Desk Reference, page 3321 for a description of this natural cholesterol lowering product. Also, there an abstract of a clinical study at the Cleveland Clinic available for those who would like to research further.

P.S. to my post. I do want to apologize to the board as my intention was not benefit financially by posting (it is a result that happens when I tell people how to obtain the product). My intention was to give information about this successful treatment of lowering cholesterol. Please check with your physician about this treatment as the 2002 PDR list this product as a healthy alternative to the liver toxic statin drugs (page 3321). Hopefully we'll see Revival Soy Drink in the 2003 PDR. It is an amazing nutrient too!

Karen (Kjobaker),
I know you a long time and don't believe it was your intention to give anything but good information, which is what we're all about in Power Surge. You know this having been with Power Surge on America Online for at least five years. To my knowledge, none of your messages were removed. However, we do have guidelines about commercial advertising on the boards. You can't begin to know how many MLM marketers sign up for these boards just to poach and harvest E.mail addresses to send out their annoying "Buy This!" "This product will save your life!" E.mails. I know, I get thousands of them and they're very annoying. This is also why it is recommended in the message board guidelines that when women/men register for these boards, they keep their E.mail addresses private. That way no marketing people can bother them. My #1 concern is for the members.
As you well know after all these years, this is a haven for support and for sharing. If the product you talk about is good, I hope it helps women lower their cholesterol. But, there's more than one way to skin a cat (a cat with high cholesterol, that is) As you already know as a Revival Soy user yourself (and I've been using it since June of '98), it lowers cholesterol phenomenally. I brought my peri-menopause related high cholesterol down from 300 to 196 and brought my HDL, good cholesterol, up to 57 and lowered my triglycerides from 299 to 69. It's all documented on the Revival page I set up for those who kept E.mailing me with questions about it. For those who want other ways of lowering cholesterol, there's plenty of information all over this site, especially on the recommendations page.
Good luck with your product. We only ask that people keep commercial links off the boards.
Thanks and it's good to see you here on the Web boards!

Good to hear from you Alice. I felt you knew my intention (one intuitive lady to another
). I would never email anyone from here to create a customer base. Nor will I ever post a website here. The only time I will offer information is if someone emailed me privately. This has happened several times since I posted on the board re; Bios Life 2. My intention will always be (as in the past) to offer information for health.
There are several ways of lowering cholesterol (your Recommendation page is a good example). We are all unique individuals. What might work for another won't for someone else. Thank goodness we have a website of this magnitude........there's a wealth of information!!
Thank you for all you do Alice!! Take care, Karen

Helloooo everyone! I am finding my way around this huge site , found "cholesterol and triglycerides". I think I have asked in two other boards. PLEASE does anyone know how to compare Australian 7.8 cholesterol level to American levels. I would have thought levels were levels whereever you lived. Just so I know how high high is. Triglycerides too! 2.7. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks jimi.

Hi Jimi... I see your posts, but have no clue about the answer... I am supposing it is the same with others here. I see you posted to Trish on another board, but she hasn't posted here at PS since Sept/2001... don't know where she went to. :( I hope someone here can help you, otherwise, why not ask your doctor to explain what the numbers mean?

Hi Kalanie,I have a question for you. Have you noticed any changes in your cholesterol levels since you started the natural hormones? I see you posted last in 2001 here, and I'm curious as to how they're doing now. The reason I"m asking, is because I have heard that hormones can raise the good cholesterol, but also raise tryglicerides.... I didn't know if the natural hormones also do that. I think I"ll call )Pete anyways. Still trying to decide which route to go for myself! Thanks,Suzie

Hi Suzie...
My last cholesterol tests were last year, a few months after I started the hormones. I had also started Revival. My good cholesterol was increased, and my bad cholesterol was decreased, as well as triglycerides, although I don't have a problem with high triglycerides. I think I attributed it more to the Revival than to the hormones. I also take 10 mg of Zocor, so I don't think you will be able to base anything on my levels too well. The Zocor, however, hadn't helped me a whole alot...the levels came down more after I started taking the Revival. I just got my blood taken for cholesterol yesterday, so it will be a few days before I see what they are now.

Through my own experience i've found that if the doctor doesn't get right back to you, it's usually good news, although they don't take into consideration that the anticipation can drive us bonkers. I always know when my tests don't turn out for the best, my doc calls me right away. Once she even called me that same evening.
Good luck on your tests, Pudge......let us know how they turned out. My Advicor is still sitting on the shelf. I did a search on side effects and am afraid that by taking it I may be trading one problem for another.

Hi Kari... Yes, I think you are right about the quick calls... when I got the call the next day last week with the results, I remember being panicky about it, before the doc said everything looked great. I haven't heard yet about the cholesterol, and it is 2 days... must be the day of the week that I had the blood drawn or something like that! :)

After two and a half weeks of waiting I called my drs. office yesterday and told the receptionist that I hadn't heard anything on my Cholesterol and she was also doing a CBC on my blood, (checking me for anemia) . She asks my name and tells me the dr. is in and she will call me back..Guess what????????No call from her at all. So i guess I must be fine..my cholesterol was fine last year..But isn't is awful how these drs. think nothing of making us wait for test results...?????????? PUDGE

Well three weeks later and my doctor finally called me with my cholesterol results. she apolgized but anyway .Everything is okay..total number is 232 down from 236 last year.Triglycerides were good aat 56 andMy HDL is good at 78, my LDL is 142 up a couple of knotches from last year. but she said i am fine and we will check it again next year. Her advice was to keep getting plenty of exercise.. I also found out that I am not anemic. So that was good news today..Pudge
