Does anyone get sore and swollen ankles as part of this peri-meno? I am not over-weight, don't THINK I have heart or kidney problems... (although I'm becoming paranoid anymore sad.gif )

The last week my ankles have been sore... and swollen enough that I can notice.... why is this happening?

I'm getting so depressed over this stuff... I feel like I could burst into tears right now as I type this. I just want to feel normal again!! I have an apt with the gyno in Sept (soonest I could get in).....

I also feel nauseated.

Is this "normal" at 42?? Also- years ago I had one ovary removed due to a large cyst.... could having only one ovary be the reason I'm going through this at 42?

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Sadly anything seems to be normal! sad.gif

I can remember suffering with tight swollen ankles when I was around 46 |(50 now). Perhaps you should make an appointment with your normal doctor anyway, to be checked.

I never did though and it was just another phase that moved on (to something else) smile.gif

Have you tried a web search to see what all might cause it? But if you are a hypochondriac like I am, I would advise against that, LOL.

I'm sure there are many causes of swollen ankles. It can even happen from too tight shoes. Of course, there are more scary things, like heart failure (which can be very gradual and not severe), but I am sure if it were anything serious like that you'd have more symptoms.

If your swelling lasts more than a couple of days, I would definitely get it checked out as there are several heart related issues that can cause that. You need to get that stuff ruled out before you attribute this to hormones. Although it probably is just hormones.

This sounds peculiar, but I had a bout of swollen ankles when I tried one of those anti-cellulite lotions. It turns out that there is a lot of caffeine in them, and that caused water retention in my legs and ankles.

Who knew?

The average age of menopause is 51, and the average duration of perimenopause is 13 years, so YES, it's normal for you to have symptoms now. I look back, and I was having symptoms for probably 5 years, in my late 30's, and hadn't a clue it was peri.

Oh, the joy of it tongue.gif

I had a few days of swollen ankles I thought it to be a combination of hormones the heat and I had been wearing high heels. But it went away for now. I was scared at the tine as all I coulf think of was heart. tongue.gif
