Hi!!!
Can someone tell me what they mean when they say that a person can have SEVERE hot flashes? Does hot flashes can feel as a burning sensation? Can you have them on whole on some parts of the body others than face and neck?
I would appreciate if someome can help me with this questions... thanks.

For me, I say a hot flash is severe when it disrupts what I'm doing because of the discomfort and I also factor in how much I sweat. I don't count the tingly, prickly hot feeling as severe. Usually I cross the line into severe when clamminess turns to trickling sweat (and it doesn't always). At that stage I become very, very uncomfortable. During my most severe flash/sweat experience, sweat was pouring off me like some one had poured a couple of glasses of water over my head.
For me, the location generally starts mid-body and rises to my head. When it's severe, it's full body, but more intense in my face and chest which feel hot like I've been doing about an hour of cardiovascular exercise.

I thought about your question and IMHO, severe is when the heat hits you from head to toe and you feel like you need to undress to get cool.
Most of my hot flashes are from the chest up, but I've had ones where my legs and torso felt like they were in an oven.
Also, if you're sitting in a business meeting and one of the men asks you if he can get you a glass of water (because your face is bright red and sweat's dripping off your chin), that might also be characterized as severe, LOL.

Hi there! I think I started out having very mild flashes....just felt very very warm from my chest and upwards and felt like I really needed to just be still.
I would now say after about a year...Im entering the more 'severe' where....it comes over you like you've been 'struck'....so hot..that you want to rip your clothes off....cause you cant stand it!....and then....5 minutes later...its gone...over.
Here's my problem.
Im starting to really sweat...under my breasts and down my tummy. The moisture seems to get trapped in my bra...and I get rashes. Does anyone else have that problem..and what can you do for it?
I've been taking my bra off...but...cant go to work like that...would fire me...haha

Minniedee,
I just started using the Arrid Anti-perspirant in those areas. Worked for me

I call it severe when I have to go outside or take clothes off to get relief. Sometimes I do not sweat but I feel intense heat so that I will walk out of a store for example to feel cooler. I remember sitting outside a store in about 45 degree, damp weather, with just a blouse on top, and feeling good!

Mini-d, umm maybe you could bring an extra bra or two to work with you hun. When it statrts to become wet, change into another one. I had done this just here at home, when I had errands to do outside of the house.
One would get damp, and changed into another.I would have it in my purse when I walked in the store and found the restroom. that helped also with the rashes..

I had really awful hot flashes over the summer. They made my arms sweat! I have been having hot flashes for years, on and off, but these were WOW, really bad. Funny, I didn't have a period during most of that time and as soon as my period returned the bad hot flashes returned to the more normal hot flashes. Things are always changing. I used a lot of powder during those months to keep dry. I think, if I remember correctly, even my legs were sweating.

I work with a gal who is about 10 years older than me..when her hot flashes were at its worst, she litterally had sweat dripping off her face...like someone has sprayed her with water. Her being a waitress, she had to make sure no sweat droplets landed in anyones food when she was serving them. It was wierd to watch it just drip off her nose, chin, run down her face....

severe to me means i am hot and i can't stand the feel of clothes or anything else next to my skin. any kind of fanning is helpful including fanning with my own fingers. also, severe is when i am so hot that i feel like i am going to faint. the sweating at that point helps me cool down, but then i get cold. either way, hot or cold i am miserable.
i personally think that if anyone has a hot flash, they are going to know exactly what it is. how can you not????

Minniedee, I've gotten rashes under and between the breasts, too--I haven't had daytime hot flashes, but I have had a few major night sweats! I've used facial astringent on the area before bedtime, and that helped me alot. It was also very soothing...
