smile.gif Hi everyone,
I'm new here and 'think' I may be peri-menopausal. Briefly, I'm 47 and my periods are becoming a little irregular, but still 5-6- days duration. Three weeks ago I went through a very distressing break-up with my SO - ever since then I've been experiencing momentary feelings of cold/hot/cold - many times day and night. It comes in waves and only lasts a few seconds, but around 3-4 times an hour.
Can peri-menopause be precipitated by emotional stress i.e. like an endocrine-crisis? I've sure never felt like this before - and it's gone on for 3 weeks now (I move out next week so maybe that will help!) - in a way I'm hoping it is P-M instead of something else.
Can anyone advise???
Thanks!
Julie

Hi Saxgal and welcome to PowerSurge!

Yes, stress will cause hot flashes. I was about your age when mine began. I always had very minor hot flashes right before my periods, even when I was very young. But by age 47, like you have described, I started noticing feelings of warmth during the day whether my period was due or not. I was taking one of those health store herbal metabolism "booster" supplements to try and help me lose the weight I was gaining, and I thought the feelings of warmth were from the herbal supplement boosting my metabolism. Wrong.

If your periods are irregular, it's also the beginning of peri. Same thing happened to me, too.

You have lots of good company here! Check out the library, the guest transcripts, and all of the message boards. I used to spend hours on PowerSurge every day when I was 47....still do sometimes, and I'm 54 and postmenopausal. smile.gif
