Full Version: Interesting questionnaire
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?
IrishLass
I was filling out a health questionnaire recently, and one of the questions seemed strange to me, as follows:

Are you:
a)pre-menopausal
b)menopausal
c)post-menopausal

Based on the definition of menopause as that magical "12-months since a period" date, does this put peri in category "a"; the one-day anniversary of the last period as "b"; and everything else "c"???? Or is "a" really "before peri" and "b" the full year between the last period and the one-year date, and "c" everything after that date?

Or am I just going crazy & need to just assume that the stupid questionnaire was written by a man, who has no earthly idea what he's talking about???? blink.gif

(BTW, it was an online questionnaire offered by our health insurance to assess your own "wellness".)

Geez, IrishLass that is doing my brainfog the world of good.

So we are to assume menopause lasts a whole day, and thereafter we are post.

I was thinking menopause starts on the last day of your last period, except we don't know that for twelve months. So, for twelve months we may be peri or meno.

Yeh!!!! Thats enough to send you crazy, and yes, the questionaire must have been written by a man. Who else could be so barmy.

I'd love to know what man wrote this question! tongue.gif
I think he forgot:
d) all of the above

"Post" is just some word that got thrown in there at some point.

It's my understanding that you are in perimenopause for usually several years until you have gone 12 months without a period. Then you are in menopause.

They started to throw in "post" because it was easier to understand.

You are either A or B.

A woman who has not had her period in 6 months is in perimenopause.

A woman who is experiencing perimenopausal symptoms, but still having her period is in perimenopause.

Only once a woman has gone 12 months without a period is she in menopause.

That I even know this is frightening LOL biggrin.gif That I've read so much on this topic is a reminder that I need to get a life!! biggrin.gif

MerryPeri- LMAO or .... e) NONE of the above!!! laugh.gif

Wow, you guys have waaaaaaay less brain fog than I if you're able to cipher all this out.

All I know is that for too long I have felt like ****. Is that on the questionnaire? cool.gif

laugh.gif If WE were writing the questionnaire, it would surely be one of the choices!!!!!!!!! They really need to have a woman write the women's questions, or edit them at the very least!! biggrin.gif

Here's my "updated" menopause questionnaire:

Are you:

a. Still having periods with possibly occasional mild PMS symptoms, naively unaware of what lies ahead?

b. Confused and dismayed about what is happening to you body and brain as NOTHING makes sense anymore (combined with occasional hefty weeping sessions, months without sleep, and significant weight gain)?

c. Stockpiling anything that can be construed as a weapon for the day when you actually have enough energy to go out and mow down all those clueless doctors?

laugh.gif Joliejacq, you are too funny!!!! Your post made me think of the movie based on the book by Fannie Flagg. I think it was called Fried Green Tomatoes(Whistle Stop Cafe). Kathy Bates was hilarious in that movie. Especially, when she hit the car in the parking lot over and over again after too very young women stole her parking place. I know this post has nothing to do with peri/post menopause but I just had to reply. Take care, Tally

Tally, it actually DID have something to do with menopause. tongue.gif If memory serves me the Kathy Bates character made references throughout the movie about hormones, and hot flashes! LOL

JJ- how about:

A) Is your vagina drying up? or
B} Do you have absolutely no moisure anywhere on your body?

Or......
