I feel like I have been walking around on balloons for the last 4 days! blink.gif
I don't know if it is the heat, or what, but my ankles and feet have swollen up incredably in the last little while. My toes are sticking out like over-stuffed sausages and the skin feels over-stretched and burning. They ease up overnight when raised in bed, but by the end of the day, there they are again, all puffy and huge mad.gif
I remember my Mom over her last year where the swelling was so bad, her toes wouldn't fit into her shoes anymore, and she had her ortho-socks with the toes cut out.
Is this just another meno phase, or should I be hobbling off to the doctor.
Six months ago, all tests were normal.
Opinions, ladies?

Chefmarr,

I am a new member here and just saw your post about swelling in your feet. I have recently been experiencing some of that myself although not to the degree you described....have you found any relief for the swelling in your feet yet or found the cause for it?

You also said your mother experienced this in her "last year." Did your mother pass away? If so, I'm very sorry. I am curious to learn what the diagnosis for her swelling (edema) was if you know.

I have just recently began to experience some swelling in my ankles and feet and I am wondering if it is another symptom of perimenopause. I check my blood pressure everyday and it doesn't run high so I am thinking this is just another of the many strange and annoying things we ladies experience on the journey to menopause.

I would love to hear from you about your experience.

Thanks for answering, Texann,
Yes, my mom did pass away, about a year and a half ago now. Thanks for your thoughts.

She had cancer, diagnosed as ovarian, but it started with breast cancer and just went to town on her sad.gif Her bodily functions just started to shut down in the end, so there is no real comparison to our symptoms, except the sausage toes!

Dad had phlebitis and retained water for years.
Both my sisters have complained about "fat ankles and feet"

I notice the "sausage toe thing" mostly in the really hot weather, and when I have been on my feet for long periods. (Oh, like a regular day at work! blink.gif )
I must admit that the beer I have after work seems to worsen the problem, helps to relax in other ways, but...POOF! And then I have fat feet ohmy.gif .
It's not always related to beer, though. (I don't ALWAYS drink after work), and I almost ALWAYS have fat feet at the end of the day.

JUst some days are worse than others. Can't put it down to a certain time in my cycle cause my cycle just isn't happening lately (5 months no period, two days period, two months nothing, one day sludge, two months nothing, a regular period blink.gif ohmy.gif mad.gif )

I get relief from warm baths and putting my feet up. Fanning also helps. Massage drives me up the wall! (and I usually adore them)
I have never been a pill-popper, so it's not a big enough problem for me to get pharmaseutical help. I was (and am) just annoyed and looking for suggestions.

Best of luck,
Marilyn

Believe it or not, drink more water. That will relieve retained water.

A couple of days ago I experienced some rather puffy ankles and feet....not really sausage toes but still puffy. I haven't had it to this extent and although it wasn't painful it was annoying to me. I have never taken any kind of diuretic before but this time I decided to try one and see if it made a big difference. Well, I took 2 Diurex tablets yesterday 6 hours apart and then 2 again today also 6 hours apart and it has really helped. I am trying to drink more water....that's probably part of my problem as I haven't been drinking enough water for awhile now, especially this summer and it has been quite hot and humid. I have also heard that you should drink more water to help combat the swelling and that was also noted on the box of Diurex that I got. I feel like I am about to start a period but I don't know if it will happen or when it will happen because I have been in a pattern of skipping 1-3 months and then having a longer period than usual. It has been about 2 months now so either I'm about to have one or MAYBE this will possibly be the beginning of the end of it. I'm not very hopeful but I sure wouldn't mind if I don't have anymore! biggrin.gif

Hangin' in there with all of y'all!

My sausage-toes are back with a vengenge---I think that water intake may be a vital clue.
I was on my feet for 14 hrs in the kitchen (somebody had the nerve to phone in sick. Should have phoned in dead, and they may have gotten away with it!)
I do keep a jug of water at hand, the trick is actually remembering to drink from it unsure.gif
Boss bought me new kitchen shoes a few weeks ago because mine were being held together with duct-tape (Red Green, any Canadian fans?)
Unfortunately, the new shoes don't have the support as my comfy Birks, so I'm going out tomorrow to fix the situation. (Gotta love him, he meant well! blink.gif )
Got home and am pumping the H2O, putting the offending appendages up in the air and hoping for the best.
