Hi - I am 49, slim build, very active, no diabetes - no sign of menopause other than odd cycles of my period in the last year....my doctor didn't like the fact that they were sometimes 14 days apart - so she scheduled me for an ultrasound and biopsy of my uterus - dx = hyperplasia. Prescription given for 10 mg of provera twice a day for 90 days = I am trying to read as much as I can about this drug - since it is only for 3 mts I am wondering if it is okay to take? I don't like taking any drugs, but don't want the chance of it turning into cancer either - hysterectomy doesn't sound appealing either. I wanted to do this whole "change" naturally, but now taking a hrt. Dang! mad.gif

I cannot find out much information on this drug how it works? sad.gif Has anyone been on it this long - do you still have a period? The nurse called me with the drug info and sent me a flyer on it, but that was all............ thanks - Jody

Jody,
I took Provera for only a couple of months until I could find a doctor who used the bioidenticals. Didn't experience any side effects and came off 5 days/month for the bleed. Prometrium was recommended to me by my OB/GYN and when Pete, the pharmacist from this site got the prescription he called and had it changed to Natural Progesterone/Oil capsule. Go to ask the expert site and find Pete's name. You can e-mail him and look at old posts.

I didn't do well with Provera. That was the first HRT regimen I was prescribed for my hot flashes (that with some sort of synthetic estrogen). I turned into a _itch overnight and attributed it to the Provera part of it. Everything I looked up on the internet about Provera was mostly negative--some real horror stories. So I took myself off it. I'm now on Estrogel(bioidentical estrogen) and Prometrium. Both are working great without side affects so far. I wish you luck in making the best choices for yourself. Some women have no problem with the synthetic progesterin, but it was soooo bad for me.
