Is anyone dizzy/off balance constantly for as long as 8 mos? everyday

can hormones do this?HELP
Kleeo
Jul 1 2005, 08:32 PM
Hi Che Che, yes, I think hormones CAN do that to a woman. I am dizzy/off balance much of the time, and have been for months. I also have TMJ, which I think adds to it, but I think the majority of it is caused by the hormone inbalance. Getting plenty of rest helps I think, but my sleep patterns aren't anywhere NEAR normal anymore since entering the wide world of peri. If you've been checked out by a doctor and everything showed okay, then I guess you can pretty much chalk it up to hormones!

I'm dizzy alot too and hate it. It makes me scared to drive sometime. I notice it especially PMS time and ovulation time. One gal talked to me here on the forum about the neck muscles being very tense and I hadn't associated my tense neck with Menopause. I see a chiropractor and just figured things were popping out more than normal, which seems to be the case too. Now that I'm stretching my neck and using Tea Tree Essential Oil (to relax the muscles and pull out inflammation) I'm noticing my dizziness is greatly reduced. The gal said that the dizziness is produced, they think, from the tense cervical muscles. Hope this helps!! Also Epsom Salt baths have helped relax my muscles. ~Sheila~

Hi cheche,
Yes, I've had alot of trouble with dizziness and feeling off balance. As one poster wrote (I forget which thread) it is like "walking on a bed." That's exactly how I feel sometimes.
What is causing this? Is it ALL hormonally related?!!
I went on vacation last week to the beach and I kept asking my kids all week: "Does it feel like the beach house is leaning to one side?" My kids are
probably thinking about having me committed.
Good luck to you !

Yea, I forgot to mention the tense neck muscles. I have the tightest, tensest neck muscles - could this be related too?
I find that massage helps (but who can afford massage every night) and Epsom salts is helpful as well.

Hiya Che Che,
I was reading through previous posts today about dizziness and I think it was YOU who said it reminded her of walking on a bed. Very funny !
Yes, we got through the beach vacation somehow - I was so glad to get home where everything is quiet and safe and predictable. The kids had a great time, though.
This dizziness has been a daily thing for about 6-8 months now. Sometimes it's unbearable; I think it worsens around my period. It helps to focus on lines on a floor or sidewalk to help keep me "steady".
What helps your tense neck muscles ?

I'll chime in here with off balance some days, and yes the neck muscles are extremley tight. Does anyone else get the tightness that goes down the spine to the middle back are and tighten up? I'll bet i'm not alone on this one either, but if someone else has similar whoas i'd love to hear it. i seem to be comforted when i hear others with similar menopausal symptoms. seems to assure me that it isn't something i'll have to live with for the rest of my life. and at 48, i'm waiting for that zest they speak of.
Along with the muscle tightness i also get a slight trembling in my midrif area. anyone else? then it affects my feet sometimes, then the head fullness. I sound like i'm a wreck but it's all quite managable, albeit very annoying. i just keep goin as much as i can. others have these same things?
do tell.

Janiekaye,
I get the tightness in the neck muscles, that goes down the spine and affects my upper back, the whole area around my shoulder blades, the muscles under my arms and around my chest wall and sometimes even my sternum. The tightness can defintely cause pain in this whole area, sometimes feels like it's going through from the chest to the upper back. I also notice that when I am less anxious, and the neck muscles are not so tight, that the whole area feels better. I have been going to the gym and doing exercises to strengthen this whole area to see if that helps, and usually it feels pretty good after I exercise. I think that tight neck muscles are a sign that you are carrying a lot of anxiety/tension as that is one area where it tends to show up.

Since I've been in peri my dizzy off balance feeling is much worse. Don't worry to much che che, I don't believe at all that you have a serious illness, I'm like that to, always thinking something bad, but I have learned to talk myself out of it. I think it was you who used the walking on bed example..and that is just the perfect description!!!
I've had TMJ for over 12 years, and I get the clicking neck, tight muscles from that, and dizziness is also associated with TMJ but I know for sure that my off balance feeling is also peri related. Sometimes we have to much to think about, It gets worrisome but just remember...the statistics show that most of the things we fret and worry about never ever happen.
Thanks girls for the idea on using epsom salts, I've read that it contains magnesium and always wanted to try it, so I will be buying some soon.
Hey Kleeo, maybe the epsom salts will help our TMJ, have you ever tried it??

Hey everybody,
About one and a half years ago, most of my strangest symptoms began. The first one was this feeling like my entire midsection was buzzing and vibrating. I ran to the nearest doctor, who scheduled all kinds of diagnostic tests. They all came back fine, but the brain MRI had some weird areas of inflammation that they couldn't explain. Thank God it wasn't MS, which still remains one of my biggest fears.
For about 7-8 months, my midsection hummed and buzzed, occasionally going down to the legs or left arm. My anxiety and nightime despair began around this time as well.
The buzzing is now focused mainly in the legs and accompanied by dizziness and a feeling that I am listing to one side.
The tight, tense neck muscles started about 8 months ago, and my neck clicks and pops almost constantly. I am now bothered by TMJ on the right side. My ears feel like they are full of something and have a deep, maddening itch at times. Anyone else have the itchy ears and TMJ ??
I did try chiropractic care and he did neck adjustments, where he forcibly and quickly turned my neck to one side and then the other. I had two adjustments and realized that he might be doing me more harm than good. Bye, Dr. Bones.
Someone mentioned stretching exercises that helped. Could you share what you do? Thanks to you all. I feel like power-surge has saved my sanity.
Hugs,
suzy

Suzy,
I've had the buzzing for 2 1/2 years. I'll have to say that it's not as bad as it used to be. It certainly did cause me great anxiety. Not that I didn't have enough of it to begin with.
I don't have TMJ, but I sure do have the itchy ears. Left ear specifically. It feels like bugs are crawling in it. I've had it checked out a couple of times. Sometimes it goes away for a while, but it does come back. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you, but just want to let you know that people are going through similar things as you.

HI All
Boy I can relate to everything each one of you is talking about. I have the off balance feelling....for awhile there it was all the time... for weeks on end. Then it went away for a bit and now it comes back about 2 days before the period ,stays for a few days during and then returns after it over for a few more days. Symptoms come and go during peri..there is no rhyme or reason to them. The tight stomach muscles another great symptom and it feels as if it is very shaky and crawly. Also the tight neck muscles..I agree they are contributing to our off balance feelings. And the pain the radiates from your back right thru to your chest. It feels as if someone has bored a hole right thru you. Suzy you mention you had an MRI and they found some inflamation in the brain...your the second person who has talked about this..my cousin ..who is also in peri has the same thing and the docs cant explain it. She is having a rough time with all this too.
So hang in ther girls..at least we are not alone in all this.
Peace

Suzy, if you wipe a cotton bud soaked in white vinegar in your ear it will help to stop the itching. I had lots of trouble with my ears and used Gentisone (?) an antibiotic eardrop but the white vinegar works much better and wards off earrache.

Hey Alice,
Do ya'll know what vinegar kills? Yeast, fungus, candida, other microbes. I think I have yeast/fungus down in my ears, so it would make perfect sense that the vinegar would be effective.
I wonder if colloidal silver (also effective against candida) would work just as well?
I was taking it for a while, but was concerned I would turn blue, so quit. But I keep reading about it on the Net and it is really an powerful, natural medicine. Might go and pick some up today.
Have a great day. everyone !

I'm so glad to have run across others who are experiencing dizziness and tension in the neck and shoulders.
I have been to several doctors with the dizziness problem and they just look at you like you need to be in a straight jacket or worse in a mental ward.
I never related the tension as part of the dizziness though and you are all correct. They seem to go hand in hand. I dread the dizziness when I'm in a public place for fear that I will fall down and especially in narrow places which seem to sway back and forth. Also stress seems to make it worse.
I will hang in there now that I know that I'm not crazy.

HI, CHE CHE and ALL THE OTHER LADIES AT POWER SURGE,
I had a very bad night last night. I have been doing very well lately but for some reason last night was hell. I had hot flashes all night and attempted to go to work this morning but I decided to stay home and try to get some rest. This morning about 5:00 am while I was trying to get up and dress for work I was very dizzy and light headed. I was really afraid to try and drive to work so I called my supervisor about 6:30am this morning and informed him my hormones were out of sinc and that I better stay home today. I also had a rapid heart rate. I went back to sleep and feel much better now. I hope tonight will be better. Take care, Tally

Dear AA
I can relate to your dizziness. Mine also would start the day before my period and last to about day 10 of my cycle. I figured it was due to the fact that my estrogen levels are way down during that time, so I put on a low dose estrogen patch and HEY PRESTO the dizziness went. I take natural progesterone every day, and that has been for years, but it never helped with the dizziness. I think it was my brain screaming for some estrogen. Give it a try and see if it works for you.
Jessica
When you say your estrogen is of the scale, do you mean its through the roof or way down. If it is down try adding some estrogen to see if that makes a difference to your dizziness as well. Just a bit of advice that has worked for me. Hope it helps.
By the way, I take Estrederm 50 patch, a natural form of estradiol.
Best wishes
Denise.

Hi Che Che and others,
To answer your question che che, the neurologist didn't know what the areas of inflammation were caused by. She said if I were alot older (I'm 46) she would think stroke or alzheimer's disease, but my age was too young for either of those.
So she couldn't offer a reason. I'm wondering if the inflammation could be due to hormonal imbalance or my crappy diet. I have also developed food intolerances to wheat and dairy - and fel better when I avoid all sugar and caffeine too - but I have to admit I eat those "bad" (bad for me anyway) foods.
It is sounding like estrogen (too much of it) may be the cause for this dizziness. I'm using topical progesterone to see if this counterbalances the excess estrogen and relieves some of these symptoms, but I haven't seen any improvement for the past couple of cycles. Hmmm ...

Hey there Suzyq2,I have some info for you and the women tthat mentioned her cousin w/ brain inflammation( i cant remember the womens name,im sorry

).Ok,Go to google, type in Brain inflammation perimenopause. Then click on Its that time of the month-for a migraine-heath-msnbc. They mention " a sterile inflammation" I wonder, could this be it,or am reading this incorrectly? i hope this helps

Let me know what you think, ladies

Suzyq2,
Too young to have a stoke? Is he/she kidding? Younger individuals have had strokes. It may not be the average occurence, but it sure does happen. Are they trying to do anything to reduce the inflamation? Seems a little wierd that any doctor would just ignor something that is obviously not normal.

Jul 6 2005, 11:58 PM
Hey Che Che, Pixie girl and everyone else,
Che Che, you may have stumbled on something here. I went to Google and the website that talked about menstrual migraines/brain inflammation. Years ago, between the ages of 25 and 35 I had terrible migaines, some were mentrual, some were not. I wonder if these caused some of this brain scarring due to inflammation. The neurologist DID ask if I was prone to migraines, and I said no because I haven't had any in about ten years. But, I do have a past history of them. Very good detective work, Che Che !!
Pixie girl, my doctor didn't really follow-up with any suggestions. Once she couldn't diagnose MS or ALS she basically was done with me. I did try and talk to my primary care physician, but he didn't really have any asnwers either.
I really feel like I could be doing a lot more by eating healthy and avoiding foods that my body reacts to.
You all are the best. You really are.

Alice,
I tried the vinegar last night (apple cider) in my left ear and when I woke, it was almost totally cleared up. I did buy some silver and used it but it seemed to just irritate the outer ear and made the canal swell even more.
So, there's something to the vinegar cure. Great stuff. These old fashioned cures are a lot better than modern drugs. You know, our healthcare system really leaves alot to be desired. It's great if you need surgery, but does nothing for disease prevention or health maintenance.
Thanks for the tip !!

I've been having that same dizzy, walking-on-a-bed feeling for the past couple of months (I'm 45 and also feeling some minor, momentary hot flashes as well). Is it too early for all this? Another new symptom with the dizziness is a sudden heavy feeling in my legs and weak knees, almost like my knees are about to buckle under me and I have to sit down. Has anyone experienced this?

i have had the heavy leg..weak knees thing...feels like you have jelly legs and that your legs cant support your weight...very unnerving....if it will make you feel better go have it checked out by your doc...I did..and they couldnt find anything wrong...but it still bothers me when it happens....I am 45 also and have had my hormones tested...the blood test came back normal...however the saliva testing was a different story altogether...every thing I have read tells you that the saliva testing is much more accurate...and no it is not to early for this...some women start this crap in their 30s...everyone is different.......good luck..and stay in touch, it really helps to have others to talk to!
