Full Version: What is wrong with me?
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?
USAPrincess
hello, I am only 16 years old, but I am having problems. I have gotten each of my women qualities before everyone my age.. for example, I had size B breasts at the age of 8 and my first period on my 9th birthday. After I turned 15, I stopped having my periods for a year and 4 months. I got it back last February one time, and I have not had it since. Also, I have been having sudden mood changes such as depression, irritability, mood swings, and anxiety. Lately, I have been having trouble sleeping and I have had horrible frequent hot flashes that make me feel so uncomfortable and hot all over my body. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is wrong with me?

Hi USA princess,

Sorry to hear that you're having so many problems, and at such a young age. How did you hear about Power Surge? Just curious.

Have you lost a lot of weight in short amount of time? This may account for your
periods stopping for a year.

You know, sweetie, I think you should see an endocrinologist (a doctor who
specializes in hormonal balance) for a complete work-up. Your symptoms could
be related to a thyroid condition or other metabolic imbalance. She/he can test
levels of all hormones, including estrogen and progesterone.

Are you diabetic? When was your last physical? Gyne exam?

Are you able to receive medical care in England? I know their healthcare system
is a lot different than here in the States.

Please keep us informed here at Power Surge what you find out. We care!!

Dear Princess:

Have you spoken to your mom about this????

It sounds to me like you need to see your medical doctor or a specialist in hormones (Endocrinologist) to find out if your hormones are causing you to experience these symptoms. Your thyroid should also be checked since it often causes some of the symptoms you mentioned.

If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask us. We will try to help you in any way we can.

Hello, I found this website when I was looking to see if there were any other people may age experiencing the same sort of thing. No I have not lost any weight, all though I have been trying as I am overweight. I am not diabetic, but it is common in my family. I do not think I have ever had a physical. Yes, I recieve the same care, as my step-dad is in the military, which explains why I am here. I see the military doctors, but they tend to just look me over and send me on my way. Yes, I have spoken to my mom about this, although she thinks im getting ill. I am hoping she will take me to see a doctor soon, but our doctors are only available Monday-Friday, and I will not be able to today as I must be getting ready for prom. Thank you all for responding so quickly. It makes me feel better to know there are people out there who can provide advice. wink.gif

I agree that it sounds hormonal, but there are so many things that could be causing it. I'm a former Air Force brat so i'm familiar with the military system. Sometimes you just have to be insistent. It sounds like you have to convince your mom that something is really wrong so she can help make a doctor take you seriously. I have been in situations even as an adult where I have just had to say "I know something is wrong and I need it looked into" over and over until someone listens. In the meantime there are a lot of women here with a lot of wisdom who are happy to share what then know with you.

Yes I can try, but it took my mother 2 and 1/2 years to get our military doctor to even look at her thyroid. We also have one of those doctors that thinks shes always right and that we must listen to her.. I will see if my mom can get me the other doctor we have. Hopefully, I can resolve this soon, I am supposed to be going away in a few weeks and would like to at least be seen about it.

Hey Princess,

We have military docs, too, who took a looooonnnng time to even admit my thyroid was off.

A suggestion - we do this with my daughter. When they say they cannot see you, go on out to the nearest base hospital's Emergency Room. You will get a different doctor than your normal assigned doc. Also, they do have after-hour clinics in the evenings and on weekends.
USAPrincess
we can not go to the base emergency room, it is 4 hours away and we do not go to that side of the country often. We usually only go there once every 6 months. I would ask my mother to take me, but she is going to have a baby soon, so she can not handle the stress of taking me there, and my step-dad is not able to get off work as hes taking a month off to take us on vacation as well as all the previous time off.

Ohhhh USA Princess....I feel so sorry for you... It certainly seems that your having hormonal problems... and so young....add that to the stress of being in a different Country... Ahhh, how sad.

Well, if your Mom is going to have a baby soon - there is a GYN Dr. available right? Then I would contact them and talk until someone listens. And your Step-Dad is on vacation for a month - please talk to him also about your concerns.

Blessings,
Stacy

I'd be very interested in knowing what your everyday diet is like. Sounds to me like you have Estrogen overload, which at your age would come from eating alot of products laden with hormones. Like Red meat, plastics also contain these inorganic substances....especially if you are heating your foods in plastics in a microwave. When we women get older, I'm 48, the Peri-menopause phase is generally low progesterone and high estrogen, in fact an overload. So this same issue applies to me at my age. When I get the inorganic 'bad' estrogen out it normalizes the 'normal' estrogen in my body. If you want to PM me feel free to. I'd love to talk further and gain more insight as to your diet and general health. Hope to talk soon. ~Sheila~

Also listen to the other posters advise as well, getting to a doctor to have testing done is very important as well. You'll be in my prayers for a speedy resolution to this problem!!

Hi Princess! I'm with the others, and considering a weight problem it could be thyroid. SO, how to get you to a doc...hmmm...

Do you drive there or can you leave base to go to the nearest town? I found an international planned parenthood site -- they do more than birth control. I didn't know that until I was in college and without insurance -- http://www.fpa.org.uk/

So maybe call them or contact them to see if there is some place close for you. They work on a sliding scale for fees so it would be relatively inexpensive. Maybe your mom or stepdad could take you if you don't drive or aren't close to transportation.

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Hi princess,

Sounds like you're having difficulty scheduling medical visit, and convincing Mom that something is wrong. I was afriad of that. sad.gif

Do you think you should show her these posts, or would that make her upset?

Hope you had fun at the prom !!
