Full Version: Is it bad to take BCP for years and years?

I just went to my doctor and showed her my calendar of how my periods have changed over the last 8 months. They come closer together and last longer, with days of spotting, moodiness, breast pain at odd times during the cycle, etc. I'm only 34 years old so wasn't really sure if this was a perimenopause thing or not. She told me that usually between ages 34 and 36 women's hormones start changing and she wasn't surprised at all with my symptoms, especially since my mom went thru it all early too. Started for her at 35 and by 40 she'd had 3 d&c's and then a hysterectomy.

She told me I can take BCP's to regulate the periods so I won't be bleeding so much but I forgot to ask her if it's dangerous to take them for so many years. (She also said that once you go on them, you don't usually come off, unless you're having problems with them).

I think i'll call her and ask her but I was just wondering if anyone else has any info on this. I really don't want to start having to take them again (I took them years ago before having kids).

Thanks,
Julie

If I were you, I would avoid taking the BCP. I don't think long term use is good for you. How about bio-identical hormone replacment?
