Did anyone see the Fox News report tonight about the new "cure" for hot flashes??

They make some injection into the neck, and it is supposed to keep hot flashes away for 6-8 weeks at a time.

It has not been approved yet.

Uh...injections in the neck as a cure to hotflashes? IN THE NECK?

I think I'd rather wait it out. Why does it have to be in the neck? wacko.gif

Hmmm....I do know that after radiation/chemo treatment for women with breast cancer get hot flashes and they try to control this with hormonal injections. Perhaps this is what the article was about?

LOL! I haven't woken up yet (even with a little caffine rolleyes.gif ) and should have checked out the Fox site. Here's the link to the article CLICK HERE

Its a pain management doctor using a procedure that is typically not used in this way. Of course others are fussing about it but it is not uncommon for treatments that are approved to be used for one thing to be found useful for another. Happens all the time with the doctor explaining that this is not an approved treatment for the symptoms.

I do know, that you want to be careful with any type of pain management injection. Things can go wrong and people's bodies can react in negative ways as well as death.

It is encouraging though, that he is trying to help and get his findings published. Lets hope this spurs more research smile.gif

I don't think I'd risk it. Of course for me the hot flashes are the LEAST of it. I don't want to appear to get on the ol' soapbox, but why were we all led to believe that hot flashes were IT for meno? It's STILL all the media will talk about. It's such a minor part of it. Sheesh! If all I had to deal with were hot flashes, I'd be a happy woman! What about the nausea, fatigue, aches, screwy periods... and all the other nasty crap?!?

This is certainly not directed at your post, Ruby. wub.gif It's a very interesting story & could lead to many options that don't currently exsist. I just wonder why the medical community & menopausal actors, etc just want to zone in on the hot flashes. hmmmm....
