Help! I've been having nightsweats for about 3-4 months. They are not really bothering me much right now, I just wake up soaked in the morning, but I don't wake in the middle of the night most of the time. My problem is during the day. My antiperspirant, which I've been using for years no longer works very well. I've tried several other brands and nothing seems to work very well. I'm tired of walking around with sweaty armpits. ohmy.gif Has anyone else developed this problem with peri? Is there any antiperspirant that really works well to stop the most stubborn sweat? Thanks!

Hey Dicannon: I noticed a couple of years ago that my antiperspirant left me kind of smelly. Figure it's my body chemistry changing or else my nose just got more sensitive. I tried a bunch of different ones, but nothing seemed to work. But then the problem went away. So cheer up - there's hope!

You can get some that last for a few days like Mitchum.

So did anyone ever post a good deoderant. My problem is complicated even further by the fact that I cannot use anything with any fragrance or perfume in it. I tried Dove's unscented and it did nothing. The Tom's from Maine and those crystal things were a joke. I was using Kiehl's but it is a bit expensive and had run out so thought I would try something else. So far I have been through three deoderants in a week (the Kiehl's would have been cheaper smile.gif) and I, quite frankly, stink. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I will check on the Mitchum's but unscented is hard to find.

Try the men's Mitchum. It does come in unscented and I suspect may be stronger. My dd just bought some because she has the same issues. She tried the women's and she said it worked fairly well but the thing fell apart on her!

I went through a phase where my anti-perspirant stopped working and I was at a lost because I had never had that problem before. However, it went away just like most of my odd symptoms. I guess this is another sign of peri.

I bought the women's mitchum today because the store did not have the men's unscented so will give that a try. Mine has been an issue since I hit peri-years and now worsened after the TVH.

my deodorant has also stopped working. The only one that works for me now is soft & dri.(weird though cause it never used to be strong enough for me and now it's the only one that works)
I also am having problems with other things, like my perfume.I have worn the same one for years and now all of a sudden this past year it doesn't smell the same and actually stinks. It smells good out of the bottle but once it mixes with my body chemistry or something it has a totally different smell. And my body odor is different now too....does the change of life really change EVERYTHING in our lives?LOL tongue.gif

You might want to try a supplement for the sweating problem. I am taking Hi Health estero balance. It contains sage which supposedly has anti-hidrotic properties, stops sweating. It deals with hot flashes and excessive perspiration. Another product out there is called Estro Logic which contains sage also. I have only been on this product for a little more than a week so don't know if it works or not. I am also on evening of primrose from Hi Health also and may be getting relief from night sweats. I live in Arizona and the air is very very dry right now but very very hot and I am not sweating a lot but just wait until July when we get a lot more humidity in the air and that will be the test if these supplements are working. Good Luck!

Our bodies are definately changing the odours they are putting out, BUT our noses are also changing the odours they pick up. I was complaining about how much more stinky I was finding myself and Honey told me I was "no more stinky than usual". I have found that since starting herbals to control my night sweats I don't find myself to be as smelly. (mine has a variety of essentials and fish oil. I have had to change the herbal suppliment but have found that as long as I add the fish oil caps, they seem to work!)
I HAVE had success with the crystals--important because Honey has scent/perfume alergies and can't stand a lot of the smelly stuff. I have also had success with Mitchum (mens, unscented) But I find that I have to switch up every few weeks. I go back and forth between Secret unscented and Mitchum. Seems they work for a while, then peter out. But if I alternate, I have coverage! Wierd, huh!!

Ugh, I am familiar with the "I can smell myself" issue. Since I have no ovaries anymore it's at least partly due to lack of/change in hormones but I think too it's also because my own sense of smell has changed.

It's pathetic when your own odor aggravates you !!! wink.gif

So far I've been able to get by with a morning and an evening shower. One thing that has helped the odor issue is this special soap, hibiclens that I buy from the department store pharmacy section. It's a medical grade antibacterial soap that really kills off the bacteria in my armpits. So I shave pretty much every day and I use that soap in my armpits and my percieved odor has decreased dramatically.

I was looking for a topic like this. I am in Peri, and I smell so much worse than I ever have! I find myself showering twice a day, switching deodorant, and still......
Also the sweat around my private area, whoa. I even feel like my vag discharge has increased. It does not have an unpleasant smell just more than usual. I am glad to see this is probably just another hormonal thing.

Try baking soda!! I'm new here and maybe I should have used the name BakingSoda since I've already posted about using it for a rash, my answer to
everything seems to be "Baking Soda Yahoo!" LOL

Seriously I just put dry baking soda in my hand, rub it on, or sometimes a bit wet and it drys very quickly. I have the same problem re odor and it's the only thing
that has worked for me.

I even use it for brushing my teeth - allergic to the fluoride in toothpastes - and since I started using it no more root canals and no tooth problems.

Yeah I'll just answer every post with two words Baking Soda LOL -- and I've never actually used it for baking . . . laugh.gif

Cheers smile.gif

I don't think I would use baking soda for two reasons. I react to it as a toothpaste, even as an ingredient in regular toothpastes. It causes sore in my mouth and gums. Got a feeling it might do the same in other sensitive parts. Glad it works for you.

For odor: Wash underarms with hydrogen peroxide and allow to thoroughly dry before dressing.

I understand that witch hazel is also effective, though I have not tried it (but it's GREAT for refining complexion!!)

Deodorants really only cover odors caused by bacteria. Antiperspirants usually contain aluminum salts and actually clog sweat ducts to eliminate wetness. A higher concentration of aluminum can lead to drier underarms AND aluminum deodorants have been linked to other health issues.

yeah, it happened to me at puberty as well & eventually calmed down. i couldn't figure out the problem a few years ago. the worst part was that i went cold weather mountain hiking/camping & bought these synthetic wicking undergarments to be appropriately prepared to deal with the sweating & the temp changes. i think i smelled worse than a team of football players. pretty much had to chuck those clothes.

it's a little better right now, but i've learned to expect nothing & be prepared for anything. washing as often as needed, buying men's deodorant, & wearing loose fitting clothes have helped.

Hi All,

I just noticed this thread and decided to bump it up for anyone who would like to try my remedy.

Almost ten years ago, I called my dermatologist and told him I was ruining every piece of clothing I owned due to drenched underarms. He prescribed something called "Drysol" which is aluminum chlorhydrate in some sort of aqueous solution. AC is the active ingredient in most deodorants, but Drysol is much stronger.

I have felt so much better since then--both physically and mentally. I can wear clothing without ruining it and I don't have enormous wet circles under my arms.

Hope that helps someone.

Hi Marcy: I've developed a sweating problem since peri started too--but I'm really nervous about using anything with aluminum in it...I'm probably being silly--it's the 3rd most common element in our environment. Have you heard about Bo-Tox'ing your underarms? I couldn't afford it, but apparently it's what all the celebrities do before big events (like the Oscars)...they get their armpits injected with bo-tox so they literally can't sweat there. Always wondered if the perspriation re-routes itself and comes out somewhere else....

I found that sweaty arm pits became a problem just after my last few periods and now I have had no periods for 3 months. No sign of smelly arm pits any more. One of the most interesting things about this thread is the issue of sense of smell. As my periods ground to a halt my sense of smell got more and more acute. I found the washing powder isle in my local supermarket so stinky it was unpleasant to go anywhere near it. My body was perceiving it as strong as say the smell of petrol or solvents. Pet supply shops came a close second. If anyone was making toast in the kitchen I would accuse them of burning it because I was picking up the smell so strongly. When I go for an evening stroll I pick up all the tiny gas leaks in the air. Hubby says that I should get a new job as a sniffer dog for the gas board!
I have a duck down quilt and I could smell the feathers inside it. I believe it is called hypernosmia. Does anyone else qualify to become a sniffer dog with me!!!!!

I recently tried one of the crystals, and for me it has worked very well. No wetness or odour. And it was cheap too! I so somebody on this thread said it didn't work for them, but if you haven't tried one, you should.

Robin, I have not noticed my sense of smell is stonger, maybe weaker if anything!! Lucky me!! Now I worry that me and or my house might smell bad and I wouldn't know it!! LOL!!!

My sense of smell is heightened now as well and I also find that smells I used to like are now unpleasant or at the very least too strong---like my scented candles. I turn the candle warmer on and several hours later find the smell too strong and have to turn it off. My daughter thinks is smells wonderful and I just can't stand it.
