I was wondering,
It seems that lately, I've been getting Y.I's before or leading up to my period. When I get my period, the infection will clear up. I was wondering if there's a connection? Does anyone know?

Hi Breadbandit,
I have the same problem. I also get them before my period and most times, they go away by the end of my period. I had a whole bunch of blood tests done, (the doc tested for diabetes, HIV, and I don't what else) and everything was fine. I asked him if it could be related to hormones and he said no but I beg to differ.

I go to a new doctor on June 29th. I am only 34 but really feel like I'm entering peri. My periods are coming much more erratically (closer together and starting with days of spotting) and now last night my breasts started getting sore over 2 weeks before I'm supposed to get my next period! This usually starts a week before so now I'm wondering if I'm going to get it really early this month. yikes <_< Also, my last period lasted 10 days (that's including all the days of spotting) Yuck!

I wish I could say for sure that the yeast infections are related. I don't have scientific proof that they are, but I sure believe it in my mind.

How long have you been having them? Do you get them every month?

I am convinced that hormonal imbalance can trigger yeast infections. I find that
Probiotics (acidophilus) is helpful.

I have also had this problem, and am also convinced that hormones may contribute (for example, low estrogen can cause dryness which could lead to infections, although my gyno says no. For a few months, I would get a discharge and was itchy just before my period. It cleared up on its own, although I had those acidiphilus vaginal suppositories at hand just in case. Another thing that I think could be a factor is lengthy periods, especially when the flow is not heavy, but when there's spotting etc for a long time.

Hey JBW,

It's only been going on for about a month or so, so I'd say recently. I'm also diabetic and overweight, which has been a life long struggle for me and really has a serious affect on my blood sugar levels. I'm trying to warch what it eat, but it's HARD!!!! sad.gif I tried a yeast-free diet for a month, and I hated it. I really like wheat and fruit, and as a diabetic, I need to have a few portions of these foods. So, for me, the recurring infections could be one or all of these things, but I just think it's interesting that it comes before my period. wink.gif

hey Breadbandit,

I know the doctor told me that it's common for diabetics to get yeast infections. If your diabetes is in check, I would say it's probably hormones. I'm really convinced that mine is hormonal. It sure seems to be that way.

I also try to eat yogurt every day. After a few days though, i find it very difficult to grab it out of the fridge. Ugh! My arm says "NO! Don't grab it! tongue.gif But it may help.

Anyways, hope you don't get another one next month.
Have a good night!

Hi Everyone,

I am in the throws of perimenopause and one of my current challenge amount many is a recurrent yeast infection. For the past 2 months I would get an infection 5 days after my period. I have tried diflucan, other herbal methods such as tanafem douch and hydrasis suppositories and have been doing this for 14 days straight but a day after I stop the yeast is back. My naturopathetic doctor says it is a due to low estrogen in the vaginal area. I am scared that this will be a chronic problem, as in it now I have a yeast infection 22 days of my 28 day cycle.

I have a call in to my internist to is if I am diabetic. Anyway, has anyone heard or used the product candisil? Has anyone had success in treating their recurrent yeast infection without using diflucan and/or lamisil which can be very bad for the liver.

I found the AZO Yeast pill, has this worked for anyone and if so, did you use it alone or with an antifungal cream.

I am beside myself and overwhelm with one syptom after another that information would be appreciated.

I too have the same problem with symptoms of what seems like a yeast infection just days before my periods start. I have been having this problem for about 3 months in a row now. I am going to my gynecologist on Monday and going to ask if this is perimenopause because I am not sure if I am in perimenopause yet or not. I am only 37, but I only have one ovary, and have had no children so maybe this ovary is starting to run out of it's eggs. I have also had 4 cycles of IUI and one of IVF with no baby. So maybe those cycles also depleted my ovary of eggs. I feel this dryness in my vaginal area, I have had worsening of pms, and a shorter cycle. I get night sweats once in a while. So possibly this is perimenopause. I feel sort of sad that i am starting this so early. I wonder how the doctor will be able to test me for it? Do you know if there is a test for perimenopause? Let me know.......

It could be a pH problem. I posted something in another thread about it. I was having the same issues and started using Aci-Jel (a vinegar-based acidic jelly) and it cleared everything up. Your vaginal pH changes at ovulation and before/during your period to more alkaline. An alkaline pH can cause itching and yeast or bacterial infections. So what I did at the beginning was use this jelly every day for a week. Then I only used it around ovulation and maybe once or twice during the week before my period. Sometimes I'll use it the last day of my period, too, just to keep things balanced. My constant daily itching has gone away.

Hi Ladies,

Has anyone tried the estriol vaginal suppository to treat vaginal dryness? Has anyone experienced a watery discharge and tissue-paper like stuff as part of the vaginal changes during peri, menopause or post? The tissue-paper stuff turned out to be yeast in my last doctor's appointment. My vaginal pH also gets altered around a week before period and after and this causes a yeast infection.

Things seem better with the estriol but not 100%. If you folks want to respond
directly, you can email me as I have been having problems loggin on the message board.

Golly, mine started out with irritation and burning and then BANG..yeast. I couldn't believe it. I had a period over Christmas and the pad was alittle irritating. However, now I am bleeding again. In almost one week after the last period. Took yeast med on Saturday a.m. and by Sunday night I was bleeding like a stuck pig. I don't know if calling it a "period" is correct or just plain bleeding. I guess I MUST keep me a stash of kotex just in case. I thought I was through buying those things. When will it end?

Anyone else have same issues or similiar?

HELLO!

I just turned 35 and I'm totally in perimenopause. It's been going on for about 9 months.. hot flashes, moods, no libido(longer than 9 months for that unfortunately..) and night sweats. The woman in my family go through menopause early. JOY!

I, too, suffer the itchies every month like you all described. I have lowered my carb intake for quite a while which has helped immensly. I would say a full blown yeast infection occurs maybe 2 or 3 times a year now.

I also discovered THREELAC. This stuff has saved me. It's a powder that you take every morning with water.. some people can take it with every meal depending on your level of yeast. It's got 3 live cultures that eat the excess yeast in the intestinal tract and let me tell ya.. they DO! Here is a link to read a little about it:

GOOD LUCK!
