lilbuddy,

I sweat in the a.m. too, nearly every morning. I can tell what time it is by my sweats, since they usually come between 9 and 10. Do yours last a long time? Mine sometimes last nearly an hour from buildup to cool down.

No headaches though.

Hi Lilbuddy, yes, I get sweats in the morning, too. And lately have had the headaches - but I think they might be caused by allergies this time of the year, not sure. My mornings are never pleasant anymore, I wake up feeling lazy, tired and weak. Seems to take me a good hour or more to start functioning properly. Nothing short of annoying. What happened to the days of waking up feeling REFRESHED? I don't even know the meaning of that word anymore! sad.gif
Hang in there...you aren't alone.

smile.gif Hi Gals,
I am so thankful that "you" were there this morning for me, after I woke up soooo hot I thought I was gonna shriek. I turned on the bedroom fan to help cool the old body down. I am so appreciative that you (evecelt) said that you usually had them for about an hour (yep, me too) and that you feel headachy or weak afterwards. I think our bodies are depleted in some minerals from all that heat that we are producing. My heart beats faster during most of this time too. So, I am sending a huge thank you to you all for sharing your experiences with everyone. Thanks for "being there" for me! smile.gif wink!! lr3216 in Oregon

Sorry that should have read "rivcelt"...hope you understood my thanks anyway!

Hi,
It sounds like a hot flash. I never get the head ache but I will sometimes, not all the time get a wave of slight nausea, and then it passes.
I notice with temperature change, like stepping out of the shower, I will get a hot flash. I have put a clip on fan to my towel rack so I can put on make-up and not sweat it off.
Bests of luck,
Haralee

I'm two and a half years post meno, but I always had major hot flashes in the morning and at night. I'd get them during the day as well, but I could count on having them when I was getting ready in the morning and at night when I was going to bed.

I've noticed now that they are not as intense as they used to be. I don't sweat anymore, I just feel warm. I used to get waves of nausea and so dizzy I had to sit down. My clothing was damp all day from sweating. I felt irritable and crazy from being hot.

We may always have the hot flashes to some extent, but I'll wager that you will find them less intense once you get past your first year without a period. After the second year, they are less and less...until you just feel warm for about a minute and that's it.

Same with the night sweats. They'd be so bad in peri that I woke up and threw off the covers and sat on the edge of the bed fanning myself. It was miserable. Now, I just feel a little warm, so off with the covers for a minute, then I get cool pretty quickly.

Kind of like a thunderstorm. The thunder and lightning is right over your head and you're in it....then it passes finally and you may hear distant thunder and see lightning, but it's on its way out. Finally! smile.gif

Hi Ladies,
I appreciate all to the responses to my morning sweats. I don't feel so out there anymore. I haven't got a chance to look at all the posts till now as we have been buying a house and in the middle of escrow. If any of you have been through escrow you know how much it controls your life for about a month.
Anyway, I would like to hear from those of you who get a headache with your hot flashes. It's not a bad headache, it's kind of a congested throbbing headache llike my head is full. Hope you all had a great 4th of July and are thinking and praying for friends and family who lost loved ones in London.

I think (hope, pray) that I am on the down side of the slope.
I was having sweats at any old time of the day or night, Honey could feel the rise in temp and have to draw away, I was working in a kitchen and it got hot (Oh, yea, I was working in a kitchen... it's supposed to be hot laugh.gif BUT NOT THIS FRICKIN HOT!!! ohmy.gif
I always felt drained, headachey and antsy after a flash.
Bad news: the flashes wore me out, like I'd worked a full day, even if they only lasted minutes.
Good news:Scented baths refresh, so do fresh herbs (crushed and sniffed)
MORE GOOD NEWS: and then they just go away
Time is the best (Only) cure.
And I think I am getting there.
And if I can do it ANYWOMAN can!
lilbuddy
Thanks,
I can relate to the sweating all day. I now know when they are coming and I get headache-y too and feel drained and irratible. I can handle the sweating it's the headache that drives me crazy. It feels like I am congested from a cold. I am only 42 and everyone I know is amazed this is happening so early for me.

hi!
just had my total hysterectomy two months ago, and i already feel those day and night sweating. i don't have a headache though. when the sweat comes, i feel like prickly heat creeping up my back, and the sweating follows. my doctor has advised me to stay in cool places when i experience these sensations. or to always bring a fan with me since it's kind of hot here in our country (philippines) all year round. wink.gif

No headache, but every morning, without fail, I am HOT. I wonder if that is what wakes me up. For awhile I had classic night sweats but BHRT helped that. Now it's just waking up feeling like I'm burning up for 15 minutes or so, then I'm OK.
Also, I have been having "spells" where I get hot and feel sick. I missed a nice dinner out with friends a few days ago because of one. It disappears after three or four hours, but while I'm in it it feels like a flu. Maybe it's just greater sensitivity to heat?
Sounds like what some of you are experiencing.

I have been having real full on hot flushes since my hysterectomy.(they took my ovaries too).
I find that I can sleep ok but then when I wake in the morning I get huge ones!
I would say that I get a feeling of pressure in my head as well as a tingling all over my body. My heart pounds and I also get a terrible feeling of doom as it comes. Sometimes I feel nauseous also.
They are worse in the morning and at bedtime and any time I get hassled or tired (all day basically). huh.gif

You have described what's been happening to me lately to a tee! I thought sweaty hot flushes were supposed to happen all daylong. I have the morning and night flushes, still have them during the day but not as intense as the am and pm. It's jumper on jumper off jumper on jumper off......LOl At least I only have the odd occasion with a red face. Red wine gave me ripper red cheeks.

Oh CSugargrove, I just about cried when I read your post! It is so comforting to know this may all get better someday. I also get those darned morning sweats and a sick to my stomach feeling. It's the dizziness that is scary. Thank GOD, that doesn't happen often. The night sweats have only started with in the last six months, but they have become much more intense lately.

For everyone reading this thread, I have a cute story you might all appreciate.....the first time I had a night sweat....I woke up just drenched....not knowing why and not awake enough to think about the possibility of it being related to peri...I woke my hubby up and asked him if he had wet the bed... laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif ...the poor guy sat up looked at me like I was nuts and said no, but apparently you did....then I took my temperature thinking maybe I had a fever....and it was 97.1....so I started to cry...which woke my hubby (who had fallen back asleep)....and he is now not only confused and groggy....but somewhat irritated since I can't explain to him why I am crying (because I didn't know myself, why)....anyway I ended up changing the bed sheets and myself and spent the rest of the night kicking off the covers and then wrapping back up in them because I was freezing. Ah, good old peri....keeps you on your toes, doesn't it?

Hugs,
Susan

Hi there...try cutting back on your caffeine - coffee, tea, soda, chocolate. It might help. I stumbled on this fix for myself by laziness;) We ran out of coffee & I didn't get to the store until the weekend...my hot flashes quit the 3rd day in;) No more flipping the covers off my backside in the middle of the night. I now do decaf coffee, herbal tea (still do diet soda) gotta have something..anyway this may work for you...hope it does

Hello Gals,
I was so happy to come across this thread. I sweat every morning, back, legs head, all over, when I get out of the shower and am getting ready for work or to go somewhere. It usually takes me 1 to 3 hours to cool off. I didn't know if it was hot flashing or not. I have been wondering if there was something wrong with me. I also can not tolerate any kind of heat. Does anyone else swell up (fingers, etc) when you're hot? My husband has the wood stove going the past two nights and I'm dying!! I hate being hot, and I don't even like the summer anymore because of the hot, humid weather!! I am 43. I really hope it's not another 10 years of this, I've had symptoms off and on since my late 20's and I have seriously had enough of it!!!!!!! sad.gif Thanks for sharing and hang in there!!

Faith,

Me too. I am always so hot in the a.m. but get chilly in the late afternoon, and then can get a bit hot again in the evenings, but not every night. I am 48 and started noticing this about 5 years ago. It takes me 1-2 hours to stop sweating as well. Blow drying my hair seems to make it worse, but I have to do that, so I have fans all over the house that I sit in front of for minutes at a time so I can cool myself off while I get ready for work. I even sit in front of one when I put on my makeup.

My husband is a dear and huddles under blankets while I hang out in my underwear when I'm having these hot episodes (or flashes or whatever they are). Sometimes my heart pounds for a time, too, which is typical I'm told.

You aren't alone.

Riv,

I get this too, and like your hubby, mine sat in a jacket most of last winter. Like you, a hairdryer can set them off. What works best for me: Take a tepid shower. It doesn't have to be stone cold, it just has to be a long one, for me. If I can afford to run around with wet hair, fine. If not I use a plastic shower cap. Its like the water temps resets my internal infernal thermostat especially when the water hits my chest and face or the back of my neck. HTH.
Duch
I should have added, sometimes the relief is v short, but sometimes it buys me 8 hours of relief, and that's a good thing, as for me, once these attacks occur, left unchallenged they'll last up tho 5 days. Hurray for good clean fun, huh?

Hi

I have just joined and so relieved to read this topic and find that I am not alone with these dreaded sweats! I have been suffering for years, tried various HRT's, natural remedies like black cohosh and have been on Effexor (anti-depressents) for years. Nothing works, HRT seems to make the hot sweats worse and like many of you, I get them day & night but worse in the morning. The morning ones are the worse, lasting about three hours or so and always start the moment I get out the shower and trying to put on my make-up for work. I have not had a period for three years but my symptoms are still severe.

I just wanted to add my story and add the age factor. I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 26. So I don't know when menstuation stopped. Slight hot flashes started at age 51. They got intense by 53, with the intense sweating as everyone has described. I went on the Climara patch .025mg for 1 year and 4 months. I'm 54 and 2 months and stopped the Climara. I only have a few warmth feelings up my back, a day, but no sweating. I can deal with that as long as I do not sweat!! So I decided to stay off the hormones and I'm doing fine. It seems the flasheswould come and go, come and go, sometimes lasting for weeks (every 30 mins) then going away for weeks, for that one year of misery. So, I would say you have about 1 1/2 years of the sweats. After that I would suggest going off the hormones. Or if you are not taking hormones, you have a year of misery. I went on the natural hormones because I could not find out from anyone how long these darn hot flashes would last. That is why I wanted to post this message for you all who are not taking the hormones, to stay off of them if you can. Wish I would have known?? Hope this helps!!

Hi Ladies,

I am new to this website, but it saved my sanity. Everytime i think this feeling i am having is abnormal, i just log on to find that there are many women going through this too. I have just turned 54 and it is only the last year that my periods became irregular and now its 5 months since my last one. I dont exactly know if what i have is technically a hot flash, but i sometimes get a mild red face, but its the sweating and feeling clammy that drive me nuts and i can get this sweaty feeling without a red face to and it can happen at any time. So is this normal and is it a hot flash.

Best regards sadiefred

Welcome Sadiefred,
I get the red face too, and very hot face, but dry, no sweating. That comes and goes. Haven't had it for a while. But lately I am back to SWEATING!! Like before, when I get out of the shower I start and lasts 1 to 3 hours. I sweat and feel overheated. Now the night has been awful too! I literally kick off my covers, then freezing a couple minutes later, then sweating again. Other symptoms have been awful too. But still get my period on time every month!! Although the past year has been sometimes a few days early. Still wondering, "How Much Longer" !!? huh.gifmellow.gif
Anyway, you have found a good place for support. And yes, it sounds "normal" to me. smile.gif As far as "normal" goes. I still don't know if the sweating I experience is a "hot flash". I'm just hot all over, but I think maybe the red hot face is a hot flush. It's all guess work with me, so who knows. I just know it's not fun!!
Hang in there,
God Bless,
Faith

I've been on bhrt cream for 2 years. The last 6 months it has been totally ineffective in fighting night sweats. Except on rare occasions, I don't have hot flashes anymore, which makes me wonder if they have ceased naturally or if the cream can prevent them and not stop the night sweats. Other than time of day, not sure what the difference is between the two.

Pharmacist says my skin receptors may not be taking to the cream anymore. That is understandable, considering you have to keep changing application sites. But I've also had problems with the cream being less effective the first few days after I start a new jar. I see my ob-gyn in two weeks. Wondering if anyone has ever gone off the cream cold turkey, and if so, what type of reaction did you have? Any idea how long it takes this stuff to get completely out of your system?

I am 54 years old and 18 months past my last period. Technically, I've only had 2 light periods in 2.5 years. Hoping I am considered Post Meno by now. My Dr. isnt big on testing for hormone levels, says they change frequently so readings are not totally accurate. She prefers to prescribe according to symptoms. I am nearly out of the cream and since it isn't helping the night sweats, I'm thinking of stopping the cream for a few weeks to see what other symtoms I'm still having. However, I'm really concerned that the hot flashes will return if I do this. I'm already so exhausted from lack of sleep with the horrid night sweats that I really dont need another issue to deal with.

Any one else had these issues with bhrt cream? If so, did you switch to another treatment that worked for you?

I get the morning sweats too. Within about 10 mins of getting up Im off thankfully it only lasts a short time, then I dont get anymore right up till around tea time, then I get about three or four more spaced out throughout the evening. Its really wierd how they seem to come at almost exactly the same time as if the body is synchronized with the clock. Lizzy
TidalWaves
I have the most horrid sweats ever in the morning! Sitting here doing nothing and my hair and clothes become dripping wet! I avoid doing anything that requires any exertion whatsoever during that time. I use to do my exercises in the morning, but no more.
