Hi
I am so frustrated I could scream! I went off Premarin last November. I have been experimenting with natural solutions since then with minimal results.

I have hot flashes, about 12 to 15 a day, and several inicidents of nights sweats every night, mostly when I move around in bed. I dont sleep and have no libido ( much to DH dismay).

I have tried Progesterone cream, (OTC), Revival bars, Phytoestrogen pills and Estroven. Nothing seems to help. The hot flashes have slowed a bit to the current level, but its still miserable.

I am totally at a loss as to what to do next. Suggestions would be appreciated. I know there is tons of experience here and hope to draw on that!

Please help!

Thanks
Carla

Hi Carla,

I'm sorry you are feeling like this. I know exactly what you're going through, because I went through it, like everyone else here. For how long did you try the Revival? It took a few days for it to help me. I actually ordered 30 bars and they sat in my dining room for six months. I'd have one now and then, and they were delicious, but I didn't realize I had to eat one every day to get results. So when I was tapering off of Activella HRT, I decided to give the Revival a really good try and not order it again if it didn't work. So I started eating a bar every day, and by the fourth day, I thought I noticed improvement. After two weeks, I knew it was helping me feel better. That was almost three years ago, and I'm still eating one and a half bars per day.

How long did you try the cream? I've heard that this is only good in the beginning stages of peri. Later on, we need something stronger.

How long did you take the Premarin? (Sorry so many questions!) unsure.gif

My doctor said I could take HRT for two or three years. You might have to go back to it if the other solutions don't work. I only took the HRT for about four or five months before I started Revival. The HRT helped me feel better, but I had a period after TEN months, so that was upsetting and I decided I'd better taper off.

Sometimes these things take a while to kick in. Well, hang in there. You are in good company here.

Thanks for the response.

Hmmm, now what were all those questions? wink.gif

Had a total hysterectomy about 18 years ago. Was on Premarin until just recently.( no ovaries either ) I have been eating the Revival bars for about 3 weeks now, and have another 3 week supply that I will continue to eat, cause they are good! ( I only eat one a day, cant afford 1.5 a day long term. smile.gif But I have not seen any relief since I started them. I have used the progesterone cream twice a day for the past 3 weeks also, no noticable relief.

I refuse to go back on the premarin. Been on it for too many years and had a breast lump scare, ( everything turned out ok) but it scared me enough that I wont go back on the premarin.

I made some phone calls today and found a Dr that specialized in natural medicine but it costs 250 for the first visit. I am going to start saving my pennies but it may take awhile. sad.gif

I am going to stick with what i am doing, Revival, Progest cream and 2 GNC Pytoestrogen and 2 Estrovan a day until I come up with something better. But breaking out in a sweat bad enough for people to notice and comment on a dozen times a day wears thin! mad.gif

Any other ideas??

Thanks for the response

Hi Carla,

Sorry to be so out of it, but is Estrovan something you can buy over the counter? I've heard from friends that the Progest cream is OTC. I've never tried any of these remedies. I know that the bioidentical hormones can really work well, as I have two buddies who seem markedly better after starting them. I considered it myself when I saw how much better they were feeling, but I'm doing okay on Revival and I'm two and a half years post meno now. I really think the worst is behind me. I hope you get to where I'm at soon.....I think you will.

There's a doctor in the area where I live who does the bioidenticals, but my friends said it's expensive. Does your insurance cover anything?

You were probably safer with the Premarin due to your hysterectomy. But you are wise to get off of it if possible. I also had a lumpectomy done 15 years ago, and it was benign, but it scared me so much that I go to my doctor every year now. Before, I was 40 and had not gone for 20 years! Thought I'd better go, and that's when he found the lump in my breast. I thought I was done for! ohmy.gif

I know what you mean about people commenting on hot flashes. I used to get red and I'd sweat and feel short of breath. The really bad flashes lasted for a couple of years. I still get minor ones, but they are far less in intensity.

Eliminating sugar from the diet helps some people with sweating/hot flashes.
There is homeopathic remedies that include Lachesis and Sepia. Arginine (an amino
acid) and vitamin E help some.

The Revival worked for me. It took 2 full months and I have not had hot flashes since.

Hi Carla,
I went through breast cancer and it put me into menopause almost overnight. Because we now know I am cancer prone, I have to very careful what I can and can not take. The hot flahses and night sweats are rough. I started my own company making sleepwear of moisture wicking fabric. I still get the night sweats but at least I don't wake up drenched, freezing, and have to change. I notice the better night sleep I get, the fewer hot flashes I have during the day.
Good luck,

AMEN, dreamharp!! Excellent advice!!

I preach that all the time- cut out the sugars, and get on Revival!
