Full Version: Color Me Confused
Power Surge Forums > Board Discussions > Am I Starting Perimenopause?
wholenewworld302
Hi all, I stumbled across this site last night and am very excited to be here. I'll try to make this short. Several years ago I started having very irregular periods, 17 days of bleeding then stop for two days then start again for 18-20 dyas etc. I was finally diagnosed with dysfunctional bleeding and put on progesterone. The doc told me it was not peri-menopause. Recently I ran out of this meds and due to lack of insurance I was unable to see a doctor or get it refilled. I have recently moved and have no doctor yet. Anyway my periods suddenly stopped. Have not had one since July. I find myself sweating (cold sweat) for no reason, wake up at night on and off sweating and then chilled and as we speak my heart is jumping out of my chest. Am alos gaining weight and feel horrid,I have many other symptoms also. I'm confused, my ob-gyn told me if i stopped the meds I would bleed till I started meno. Could stopping the meds have "forced" me into menopause? I'm 43. My hubby had a vasectomy 17 years ago and I kept thinking I was pregnant. lol All your life that's what a missed period means sheesh. Can anyone help me out here? My stomach feels yucky alot like I need to b sick but I never am. Call me dazed and confused. hehe

wholenewworld,

Glad you stumbled across the site. I'm sure there'll be plenty of women who will join me in picking you up

Your sub-title when creating this topic was What's up with me? Well, what's up with you, wholenew, is perimenopause. Welcome to the club!

What many women don't realize when they embark upon hormone replacement therapy is that HRT doesn't cause a woman to bypass menopause, but, rather, it postpones it. So, if a woman has been on any form of HRT or ERT (estrogen replacement therapy without the progesterone) or, in your case, even progesterone therapy -- therapy being taking it on a regular basis -- once you stopped the medication, your body reverted back to it's natural course of menstrual problems and, obviously, you're going through perimenopause now.

Let's say a woman has been taking hormones for 1, 2-3, even 5-10 years and decides she wants to discontinue HRT, it is likely that she can expect to go through the natural changes in her cycle that one might expect at the beginning of the perimenopause transition. This can, of course, include hot flashes, night sweats, depression, anxiety, insomnia, shorter cycles, longer cycles, no cycles, lighter periods, heavier periods, bleeding in between, pre- or postmenstrual spotting, and mood swings, headaches and the whole roster of symptoms associated with perimenopause.

And, of course, there are various remedies for treating your symptoms, among them NHRT (naturally compounded hormones, soy, herbs, vitamins). Many of these remedies aren't covered by insurance and if you find one good remedy for treating your problems, it shouldn't be too expensive to replenish that product once a month in order that you'll feel better.

Why don't you have a look at the site's recommendation page to get an idea of what's available to treat your symptoms.

Good luck!

To Dearest,  Can you explain how stress could cause the hormones to become unbalanced.  I think I read this can cause an earlier menopause.  What do you think? Thanks Kc

This whole thing has got me rather scared. My heart won't stop palpatating and this damn headache has persisted since yesterday. I almost had myself convinced I needed to go to the emergency room but then change my mind hoping it truly is "nothing".  I have never had a headache like this before, it makes my left temple throb and I feel so slow and sluggish. I am so grateful I found this site, was horrible feeling so alone. Thank you
