Hi everyone,I have been reading all the posts and now I have a question.  I am 48 years old, and for the past 2 months I have not had a period.  Just last week I thought I was getting it, I had the tender breasts and a little spotting for about 2 days and that was it.  Do you think I should call my gyno and talk to him about this?  I don't know if this is the start of menopause or if something might be wrong.  In July, I had a d&c and something else done,(i can't recall the procedure) for fibroids.  Nothing was wrong with me, and my gyno told me that my ovaries are still working.  Now this is happening!!  Can someone tell me if I should call or just wait it out till my period comes?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.     Thanks

Patches, I would call your gynco and talk to him about it.  You recently had a D&C... could you be pregnant?   For me, spotting started for a few days at the beginning of each period about a year ago.  I'm 45.  My periods shortened a bit and normalized at about 27 days long.  My period is three days late now for this cycle, but the pregnancy test is negative.  I am not really spotting, but have a few drops of dry blood in the vagina.  This is a new change.   I started ice skating a month ago, and I read that athletes tend to have longer periods, so maybe that partly explains the increase from 27 to 30 days.  I wouldn't wait as long as two months, as you have.  I would at least notify your doctor of the change after a week.  Likely its just a normal transition into perimenopause.  But if there is a problem, it's best to catch it early.

Patches, this sounds like the symptom that's known as "phantom periods" - you're sure that something's coming, all the signs are there, but no period comes.

It's possible that your periods are beginning to stop.  That's one of the features of this wonderful time of life - your periods will do all kinds of wacky things.

For some lucky women, they'll just stop completely and that's it.  For some, the periods get closer together, or further apart, skipping some months all together, or having constant bleeding for several weeks.  It's so different for every woman.

Let your doctor know, though, just so s/he can allay any fears that you may have.
