Mine will show up in different areas, usually on my left side.

It feels like a buzz or vibration, and sometimes it is "stronger" than other times. These are the areas I feel it in:

Very tip of thumb or middle finger
Bottom of foot
Shin bone

It usually comes on and pulses for a period of time. One "pulse" might last 5 - 10 seconds, then the buzz stops, and comes back maybe 30 seconds or a minute later. This goes on for a few minutes, evenutally stops altogether and "goes away" until later in the day.

I really feel it if my area, say my shin bone for example, is resting up against something, like a rung on a chair or the leg of a table. Then its like my vibrating shin bone has something to "vibrate" up against, so I feel it more.

Anyways, I wanted to know if this is similar to everyone elses experience with the internal shaking.

When I get mine it will go one for hrs. It is like a vibration inside...especially in my back, chect and midsection. I HATE it!

Mine is inside also. It's like a constant vibration. It shows up in my abdomen, chest, sometimes my arms and legs. It is truely annoying!!

I am feeling them but mostly when I wake up (internal tremors and shaking)... also I have pains that comes and go in different parts of the body including my head (on the right side) .. I dont know how to say it but I feel the pain not in the bones, it is like something muscular... sometimes I feel as if I have a strange decease... and afraid to tell the doctor because there are so may different symptoms ( already had a brain ct scan because I went to a neurology for my hedaches , he said everything was oka and gave me an antidepressant), blood labs and they came out okay ... I went to an ophtalmology because my eye twitches and sometimes I have pain on it (also I have that ringing on my left ear) ... he says everything is okay with my eyes... sometimes I get some pain on the right ovary area but it is like if it is connected to the whole body including my head, because then I get pains and inflammation (the other day I felt that burning sensation on my right side), this is awful ... I sweat sometimes but during the day and feel cold (is it normal? ) I read all the time of night sweats but not during the day... and feel hot flashes mostly on my left feet(sole), sometimes I have diarrea too...

I dont tell anyone what I feel, even my husband, because when I intent to do so, they said to me that I look okay... finding this site has helped me a lot to understand that I am having perimenopause symptoms , anyway I am going to the gyn.. my period has become irregular too... what bothers me most is those pains, coming and going... when I am feeling okay...everything changes in minutes...

Again, it is nothing to feel proud in a way of having it, but at least understanding that we are on they way of learning how to cope with it thanks to a site like these one... I think still there are so many women like I was, not knowing that there are many more symptons than hot flashes and the most common. Thanks for let us speak out when we dont know who to tell it that could understand what we are going through...

Hi Chavela,

Welcome to PS. You have found the right place. There are wonderful ladies here who can support and encourage you. Your story could be mine - the internal shaking, sweats, ringing in the ear (left), having a CT scan for headaches, seeing an opthamalagist for eye twitches, etc. I have done all that as well and everything comes back saying I'm normal. I finally had my hormones tested and that is when I found that my hormones were completely messed up and out of balance. I finally have gotten some relief by using natural hormones. Some of my symptoms don't seem to go away like the internal shaking. I have mine mainly at night. When I lay down I can feel my body vibrating against my pillow. It's mainly in my head, shoulders and chest. It is annoying and I understand from reading that it is connected to low estrogen.

Stay in touch with PS and you will find encouragement and a place to talk about how you are feeling and will get wonderful responses and support.

Hugs,

I'm 46 and new to power surge. I have shared a couple of posts tonight and
feel so happy that I found this forum. I discovered it by googling "internal virbation" because I've had that weird sensation for about a year now. It is
like buzzing or vibration, but also accompanied by muscle spasms and twitching
too. I thought I had MS or ALS (hopefully I don't) or some strange neuro disease.

I have only had two episodes of night sweats in the past year and no hot flashes.
Am I in perimenopause even though I don't have those two important symptoms?
I;m am bothered by excessive bleeding during periods (and they are coming between 20 and 28 days). I haven't skipped any periods. I do have other peri
symptoms.

Do you have to skip periods or have hot flashes to be in peri?

The other strange symptom I've had is trouble swallowing and extreme neck
stiffness. I'm afraid to go to bed because I worry that my body will "forget" how
to swallow or breathe. Isn't that a crazy thought ? Anyone else feel this way?
suzyq2
It's suzy again. I forgot to add to the above post that another worrisome symptom is feelingvery spacey and disconnect to reality. Almost like I'm in a dream. I think it's more than "mental fog".

If you lose your mind are you aware of the process or does it happen without
personal awareness? I guess I'm concerned that this is indeed happening to
me. sad.gif

Suzy - anxiety and stress can do just about anything to your system. I know. You are probably starting perimenopause and your hormones are starting to go crazy. I don't know the last time you were to the doc, but you should be checked out and maybe he/she will be able to give you something to help.

Suzy, I could have written that, except for the stiff neck part. I had trouble swallowing and a feeling that I was choking and felt like I had to remind myself to breath. I was so scared to go to sleep, for fear that I would die in my sleep. It turned out to be a combination of reflux and stress.

Hi,
I have had bouts of shaking in the past but this is so intense, that I dred laying down, it starts just before my period and lasts for two or three days, it's worse at night, I get nausea, the spins and shakes, I also am getting tons of water retention, my feet and legs feel like sausages, anyone have water retention. I take alot of calcium magnesium, but have been taking more B vitamins and that seemed to help alittle.

suzy:

I have the same internal tremors, etc. and also have trouble swallowing (especially at night). My cardiologist is now sending me to a gastro doc and a neurologist. Will let you know what they say, but I feel it is going to be gerds and/or stress related in addition to perimenopause.
Jenny JJJ
I used to retain water but I found that you retain water because you are not drinkign enough....your body goes into panic mode and hangs on to any water that you take in. You have to drink at least 1/2 your body weight in oz. so if you weigh 100 pounds (don't we all wish LOL) then you would drink 50 oz of water a day....Also if your lymphatic system is weak then you will retain.....watch your salt intake, drinkmore water and get up and move to get that lymphatic system working. DO a search on lymphatic system and you will see things you can do to make it work better smile.gif

Good luck!

suzy i too went on google and typed in internal tremors buzzing and thankfully it brought me here.perimeno has so many bizare symptoms including your symptoms. i have had the internal tremors buzzing for a year now and like you i thought i had ms or some deadly nurol disese. there are many days i feel disconected, also. I never had an actual hot flash just these weird edren.rush, which i come to find out is a pre curser to a hot flash.Dont worry right now your hormones rule and they are completly out of wack it is amazing how many women have the same exact symptoms, hopefully this puts your mind at ease keep serching the site you will be amazed and very comforted. my thoughts are with you try to keep some humor your perimeno friend laugh.gif

I have had these internal tremors and vibrations for 18 months. They started suddenly. I was on a medication called Klonapin because I had neuro symptoms like muscle twitching, weakness, tongue and jaw pain and tension, etc. that literally caused me to be bedridden for the entire summer of 2002. (Been to 6 neuro Dr.'s, every test in the book, all normal except for low growth hormone). I figured that I had reached tolerance withdrawl on a very low dose of this drug. I decided to wean myself off of it over a period of 5 months very slowly but I still experienced increased vibrations with every cut in dose. I've been off of it for 1 year and the vibrations went away for weeks at a time but would return sometimes in the evenings. The last two weeks have been really bad, so annoying!! I hate to sit down because that's when they really can be felt. I have them all night long waking me every time I roll over. When I stand still I feel like there is an earthquake in my torso.

I started on bio-identical hormones in February. My meno symptoms are better but this vibration has gotten worse. Does that make any sense?

SuzyQ2: I used to have neck stiffness and trouble swallowing. It felt as though I had a lump in my throat. My doctor said these are symptoms of anxiety. I'm on a low dose of clonazepam now (a tranquilizer) and the symptoms are gone.

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this site, but it is wonderful. I finally found someone who has been experiencing the same symptoms as myself. I have been getting this internal vibration sensation throughout my body, especially in the feet, pelvis, neck. It comes and goes but is most noticeable when I lie down to sleep and when aroused. I've been on the Combi-Patch for 3 years now and am trying to wean myself off of it but the horrible hot flashes start coming back along with this new sensation now. I thought maybe I was getting peripheral vascular disease or thrombosis from the hormone replacement, but now that I'm reading these other postings, it sounds like it may be a menopausal symptom? I'm feeling really frustrated, since I started menopause at 43 and am now 53. When does it end? It's nice to know there are other women who are in the same boat - seems like all of my friends that I know are breezing through it! Any support is appreciated!!

Luv,

Diane

I also have the internal shaking, vibration, and muscle twitching and muscle pain in addition to several other symptoms, NONE of which are the normal symptoms you hear about like hot flashes or night sweats. At this point, I'd give up any of these for a hot flash! I've been to a neurologist, cardiologist, rheumatologist, etc and they can find no reason for my symptoms. Thank goodness I have found this site as it is the only thing out there that has helped me make the connection. Just made an appointment with the Gyno next week.......I sure hope she can help! Meanwhile, rest assured that many of us are also experiencing the same kinds of very wierd things.

Hi,

I'm new to powersurge. What a great sight. At 40 I am beginning to wonder if I have indeed entered perimenopause, due to a number of new symptoms, especially during my increasingly distressing PMS. I was interested by the buzzing/vibration posts as I occasionally have a buzzing centered in my chest cavity which vaguely resonates roughout my body. It is a light, but penetrating buzzing sensation that reminds me of of the hum of a refrigerator. It is cyclic in nature. Once it starts, the buzz runs about 15 to 30 seconds then breaks off for a second then continues for another 15 to 30 seconds and on and on it goes. Power on on on, power off, power on on on, power off . . . . I don't get it regularly, it occurs especially when sick, exhausted, or PMS. 95% of the time it occurs when I go to bed.

I first suffered the buzz for about a year and a half, five years ago. It accompanied a bout of burning mouth syndrome(BMS) that occuured immediately after the birth of my second child and lasted until I weaned her. Dr's had nothing to say but suggest it was in my mind. My gut instinct told me it was hormone induced, especially as it left within days of weaning my daughter. Both The BMS and nightly buzzing sensation subsided for 3 1/2 ears but recently I've noticed new, and occasional bouts of the buzzing. It's alot less obtrusive than the previous bout but there all the same. it is a freaky sensation, and though I am quite intrigued by it I would rather not suffer it unless it has some useful purpose. It can make me feel quite discomforted.

Does it feel like you're sitting on a vibrating motor in these areas you are describing? That's the feeling I get with it - especially in the feet, pevlis, neck and spine. Seems worse at night when trying to sleep. You're describing very close to what I"m having.

This is describes how I feel it. I get it mostly in my pelvic area, chest and sometimes my legs. It is worse at night. I thought that I was crazy for several years until I found Power Surge.

Hello PixieGirl
I was wondering what you doctor said about the internal shaking?
Did you know what you were tlaking about?
Did she say what to do for it?

Just wondering!

Thanks

HI Everyone,

I was taking the mag/cal and the tremors were stopping. Then I got my period and naturally all the symptoms were back in full bloom (reacing heart, pounding heart, tremors, headaches) This time the symptoms have not gone away after it ended. Also, the tremors are more like an weak vibration constantly.

I'm still taking the cal/mag and I don't know what else I can do. Plus, I got my hormones checked and my progesterone is off the chart from using cream so now my Dr. has to work on getting that out of my system. They weren't even able to finish all the tests because my progesterone was so high that they knew it had it be from an outside source. I had stopped usuing it 1 full cycle before I took the test and only had used it for 3 days.YIKES! Testosterone was a little high....27 and my estrogen was normal.

Feedback is appreciated smile.gif

Hi Jenny,

Love your quote. It is one of my favorites! I've been taking cal/mag fizz
for a couple of months now to help with the muscle twitching and internal
shaking/buzzing. It does help (as do epsom salt baths) but I find that the
cal/mag (or any kind of magnesium) gives me diarrhea.

And like you, I've added progesterone cream to help balance the hormones.
I haven't had the levels checked by a doc, but feel that I am probably
"estrogen dominant" based on my symptoms. I was on the cream for two cycles
and the internal shaking seems to lessen while I'm using the progesterone
on days 12-28, then it resumes when I go off the cream on days 1-11.

Do you tolerate the cal/mag pretty well? Does anyone know which type of
magnesium has better bowel tolerance?

Thanks,

Sue
PixieGirl
All kinds of magnesium causes bowel disturbance in most people. The trick is starting with a little and SLOWLY working your daily dose up, like 100 mg at a time. If the bowels get fussy, then decrease your dose the next day and slowly work back up. Your body does get used to it and the diarreah does stop. I started with 200 mg a day (taken in two separate doses) and am now up to 700 mg day, spread over the day. I had a reaction at the beginning with the low dose but now can take the 700 mg with no bowel disturnbance.

Hi Ladies:

I just started taking calcium/magesium (5 tablets equal 1,000 mgs. of calcium and 500 mgs. of magnesium). I started by taking 2 tablets after dinner and I find that I wake up with a funny (metalic taste) in my mouth. I have also noticed that when I take this supplement I begin to experience body twitches or body jerks when I'm trying to sleep.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Suzyq2,

I read your post on your internal shakes returning on days 1-11. But on the progesterone cream they subside. I have had that same problem. So my doctor has me off the cream only for 7 days basically during my period, although my periods have been lasting only 3 days. I start using the cream on day 8 to day 14 in the evenings before bedtime and then twice a day from day 14-28 or until the period begins. This last month from just before my period began up till day 8 was terrible for me with internal shakes but as soon as I used the cream there was relief within 2 days. You might look into using the cream starting on day 8. I have no problem with the estrogen. When I was tested my estrogen levels were high but my progesterone levels were on the low side. It does change from month to month. Some months are definitely better than others. Maybe using the cream sooner in the month will help you as well.

Hi Maeflower,

Thanks for the advice on tweaking my progesterone dose. I think I will begin
it earlier in the cycle and see if my symptoms improve. Sounds like that's
working for you.

Appreciate your response. Have a great week !
suzyq2
Hey to Pixiegirl,

Thanks for your response to my magnesium problem. I will try a lower dose of
mag and gradually increase it to at least 500 mg. Now I can't even handle
200 mg. of magnesium without frequent bathroom trips !

Thinking back, I had to do that vitamin C as well, and now I'm up to 3-5 grams
a day. I can tolerate a higher "bowel tolerance" dose of the C.

Appreciate your help !!

The things that have worked most for me are accupuncture and chinese herbs. I have been going every couple of weeks for six months and my system has really calmed down. The shaking and the palpitations and insomnia are gone except for once and a while the week before my period. Amazing difference. I suffered with these symptoms for four years before finding something that helped! Accupuncture changed my life.

Thanks - I'll give acupuncture a try.

Hi Lynda!

Yes, I get it in my feet - feels like pulsating vibration off and on - also, have been getting it in other places as well. Feels like I'm lying on a motor. My feet seem to be the worse. I started taking more magnesium, and it seems to be helping. Hope you feel better soon. Isn't it fun? wink.gif I'll let you know if anything else helps. I'm going to try a chiropractor next along with acupuncture.

This is what it feels like to me too. I get it everywhere, but different times different body parts. Usually it's in my abdomen/pelvic area or chest. Sometimes whole body. Lately, it's been just my left leg. It has been getting better since I've been taking mag and going to a chiropractor.

I am so relieved to discover that there are many of you out there who suffer the same awful internal shaking as I do. I really thought that there was something terribly wrong but was terrified to consult my practitioner. I am in the menopause and also on HRT which I have been taking for the last six months, prescribed to relieve the dreadful hot flashes which was ruining my life. The HRT has definitely helped a little but I am sad to discover that at the moment they are becoming troublesome again. Also the mood swings and now these terrible vibration feelings from deep within, which are there more or less constantly but particularly at night when trying to sleep. I have read the other members comments about magnesium and think I might try this to see if it has any effect. I think this is a wonderful site.

Hello all, My buzzing feel like when you are hooked up to the electrodes at the chiropractors office that stimulates the muscle. It all most feels like a contraction and then lets up. I also get a dull ache in arm and hand with it as well at times. I have this all most all of the time, it is noticible mostly at night or when I sit quietly. I get in my head and it goes down my neck and arm to my hand. But I have felt it other places as well. So far mostly on the left side. I also get burning tingling feelings in hands and feet. I never associated this with Perimenopause. Does anyone else have this sensation? I am 49 and my periods have become irraguler, so this does make sense. I am so glad I saw this thread because I was thinking I have some sort of serious neurological problem. Does HRT help at all? I am going to gyn on Tues. for yearly check up and I will definitly mention to him. Last but not least, would someone please please tell me it DOES get better. Thanks? Bonnie

I also get the shaking, vibration feeling only when I lie down to sleep. It is mostly in my head and it is the worse feeling. The minute I close my eyes it feels like my heart is beating out of my chest and the head sensations starts. I really think it is also affecting my ability to fall asleep. As if having insomnia isn't enough these days. This vibration-rocking feeling started about 3 weeks ago. Had never had it before then.

Hi Ladies,

I have a great deal of twitching and started magnesium 10 days ago (I'm up to 900 mg). I don't think it has helped yet. I've been told it can take up to a month for it to kick in. Also, I'm getting more of a vibrating sensation (mostly in feet and legs) along with the twitches (sometimes instead of). It's a bit like tingling

I've also felt like things get stuck in my throat (probably anxiety) and it freaks me out. I"ve been twitching for about two months. Also, so many aches and pains: left shoulder pain radiating down through forearm, ankle pain, knee, headaches like I haven't ever had.....all in the last several months.

Been to a neuro and GI doc...MRI was normal; blood was normal. Will soon have a nuclear stress test.
I have better days when I feel in control of my thoughts about a fatal disease, but I have bad ones when I get new twitches in new places (like today in my bicep). I twitch almost almost every time I'm at rest. Sometimes even when driving (I guess that is somewhat at rest).

If I hadn't found this site with all you other twichers and vibrators I think I would lose my mind! Two of my docs (GP and nero) think I need meds for the anxiety. I'm trying other things first: massage, bio-feedback, meditation/prayer, more rest.

Michal

It sounds like hormonal related. I was having the same thing, but it went away since I went back on my Combi-Patch and am using it regularly. Also, I stopped taking Ativan and Darvocet for anxiety and pain, and things have disappeared. Maybe side effects from the meds or from not using the Combi-Patch. Not sure, but it has gone away. Are you on any hormomes at this time?
PixieGirl
Michal,
I could have written your post several months ago......I have had every one of those symptoms and more over the past year.

The magnesium has worked great for me for the twitching/vibrations/buzzing symptoms and almost immediately - but I know that it has not done much for some others, so everyone is different in how they respond. I also started a B-complex recently and that has further helped. My twitches are still there, but much lighter and have gone from being my absolutely most unnerving symptom to deal with on a daily basis to very managable. I also get tingling in my hands and numbness in my arms. I think that anxiety makes all these symptoms worse.

I have all the joint pain issues also - hands, knees, neck, back, left shoulder-including under left arm and rib. Also headaches, dizziness, nausea all hit me on occasion. I had that lump in my throat feeling for months, along with a soar throat and earaches - I am sure this is from anxiety as it went away when my anxiety decreased a bit recently.

I do take an anti-anxiety med, and it's one of the best things I have done. I was otherwise in a spiral - the symptoms causing anxiety, the anxiety making the symptoms worse, etc. Also, it is really hard to deal with the physical symptoms when your anxiety is so out of control, and it gave me that control back. Once that happened, I was able to concentrate on the symptoms and am working to find natural ways to deal with the worst of them. In the past month I can honestly say that I am doing so much better in every way - I am finding a new balance in the midst of all this.

I hope that this assures you that you are not out of your mind.....of course I think we all think that at some point until we figure out what is really going on!
seahorse
Michal

I too still have the twitching, buzzing, vibrating sensations. I had all the tests also and everything came back normal. I was sure I had a terrible disease until the testing was done and I found this site. Now the twitching has definately decreased about 50 percent and it is probably the least of my symptoms. I thought I was going crazy for a while but it actually didn't take me long to calm down and know it was peri and I got through the worse of it without medication. Actually, neither of my doctors recommneded I take anything because I was also suffering from debilitating fatigue and they thought any meds would make it worse. It has been 10 months now and my muscles also twitch at rest. I have felt them everywhere on my body but they mainly live in my calves and feet.

I take the magnesium even though doc said I was not deficient. I am not sure if that is what helped or they are just running their course, but it will get better. They are just a little annoying now but that is it. Hang in there and soon they will get less and less.

Thanks Ladies,

I can relate to the buzzing feeling like electrical pulses....somewhat continuously in my feet when I'm resting (that is if I'm not twitching).

I am on day three of FemGest. I rub it in topically. Directions said take 1/4 tsp. but I took 1/8 and I felt a little manic the first day. That scared me so I skipped yesterday, but just took more as I am on the verge of a migraine (had two last week for the first time in 5 years; also had my first 12 day period).

Have any of you had negative experiences with the topical progesterone cream. I am reading Dr. Lee and NOrthrup's books and they seem to like this a lot.

Michal
suzyq2
Hi michal,

I just began using the topical progesterone cream again this cycle (have been on it for three days - twice a day). I have felt very manic for the past two days - very restless and couldn't sit still. I'm going from one thing to the next in my house: today I stained a stool, polyurethaned it, organized spice cabinet, laundry and ironing, sewed two pillows, cooked lots of food, cleaned out closet, chest, entertainment center, etc. It's 11:00 pm and I cannot to go sleep. I feel manic and was wondering if I'm going bipolar !

Then I read your post and you have the same weird feeling. It must be the progesterone cream. I'm going to google it and see if there's a relationship between the two. Let you know.
