Hi everyone. Maybe you can help me with this one. A few months ago I started with the twitching eye. Then about 3 weeks ago, I started to notice I was dizzy, pretty much constant. Then it progressed onto 1 week ago my bloodpressure was 130/80 which is super high for me and I was getting woken up from my heart banging in my chest & internal shaking. I went to the Dr. (which I never go) and he did the thyroid, blood work, ekg, ordered a echo and a nuclear stress and put me on 10 mg. of propranolol for the palpatations.Well the blood work came back good, my ekg showed mitro valve prolasp and I have to go get the other tests in 2 weeks. She sent me to a cardiologist and he told me to come back for the stress test in 2 weeks. I am 43 and I am still having periods but I think all this sounds more like menopause/peri menopause and some kind of vitamin/mineral problem. Any thoughts? Thanks! laugh.gif

Jenny, welcome to PS! It sounds like perimenopause to me. Those are the exact symptoms that started for me 2 years ago. I will be 44 tomorrow. smile.gif It is a good idea to get everything else checked out just to rule anything else out.

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I am never sick so this one threw me for a loop. Is there anything I can take (minerals, supplements, etc) I don't like pills and would rather take herbs. The dizzy/lightheaded thing is so annoying.wacko.gif

Anyway, thanks for the welcome and the advice cool.gif I am THRILLED I found this website!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! DICANNON!!! ENJOY YOUR DAY! biggrin.gif

Thanks for the Bday wishes. I'm one more year closer to menopause. laugh.gif

Jenny, magnesium helps with the internal shaking and heart palps. I was getting alot of heart skips for a while, but haven't had any since I started the mag. I also haven't had the heart pounding palps for quite some time.
Jenny JJJ
I'll try the magnesium. I wish I could figure out something to take for the lightheaded/dizzy. I have 2 Huskies and I am afraid now to walk them because of my head swirling. UGH! I'm going to keep digging until I find answers to all this. I know the medical doctors will just keep ordering tests and writing prescriptions mad.gif but I'm going to a homeopathic Dr. next week so I will see what he comes up with. smile.gif I'll keep you posted.

Good one! Thanks! biggrin.gif

Good luck with the homeopathic Dr. Let us know how it works out! I've been seeing a chiropractor who does something called applied kinesiology. He does alot of stuff with pressure points. My head really feels clearer and I'm not falling asleep in the afternoons lately. It's seems weird but I'm not even suffering from PMS and my period is due tomorrow. And I've had killer PMS lately. I'm not asking any questions, but something is working.
Jenny JJJ
I'll have to check into that. I can ask the homeopathic Dr. if he knows a good chiropractor. I'm game for anything at this point. I just don't want to be handed a pile of prescriptions from someone who is guessing what they think it is. Now this MD has me on a medication that I just can't stop taking and it is not helping me. UGH!

I will keep you posted. I go to the homepoathic Dr. on the 12th.

Enjoy your day tomorrow smile.gif

Well, I am back again. I had another really bad night. My blood pressure was up, internal shaking, dizzy, nauseated, tremors, heart pounding. I am getting nervous because now I wake up from my heart pounding when I have to take a blood pressure pill. Keep in mind I never had high blood pressure until a week ago. In a week I have to go have that nuclear stress test and I can't take my pills the day before or the day of. The thought of not being able to take them scares me.

I was trying to only take 2 a day instead of the 3 a day and I just can't do it. When it is 9 hrs. I wake up or if I am up, I can feel my blood pressure up. Here is my question if anyone knows the answer....

I would assume your blood pressure doesn't just "go up" one day and that is it, you now have high blood pressure. Wouldn't you think it is a gradual thing OR something caused it? The if they hand you BP pills....all you do is mask the symptoms and can't find out the true cause.

I have an apt. with a Homeopathic Dr. today. It is my 2 hr interview so I can ask him questions but I just don't know if it will be fast enough in responding to the issues.

Also, does anyone know (aside from going to another Doctor) how I could find out which hormones I am low on? I'd like to try a cream and see if it helps. I feel so helpless...my medical Dr. said he thought it was Thyroid and put me on BP pills didn't even address the "dizzy" symptom. Funny he put me on a BP pill that says "do not take if you have thyroid problems". Then blood test came back OK for my throid.....UGH! It's 1 month of everday symptoms...$1,000 out of my pocket so far and I am worse. ~ Thanks for letting me whine smile.gif

Jenny:
I feel for you as I was going through some of the same things in January. I had palps on and off, a racing heart thumping against my chest (very scary) with all with the associated panic and anxiety (which, of course--drives up your blood pressure) and it all turns in on iteslf and one syptom makes the other worse and it turns into a cycle that continues to feed on itself. It is a horrible, awful and scary cycle. I found this site---Thank God---really---it saved me mentally and physically. I wanted to mention what worked for me---I started taking all of the things below within two weeks so I am not sure exactly what did what---but I am feeling MUCH better, much more in control---almost my usual confident self. I keep coming back to this site to read, read and read and learn from others that have gone before me. I also want to share with women like you what helped me gain some control over my life--here is what I take: Magnesium, 400mg/day (in 3 tablets); CoQ10, 150 mg 1x/day; calcium with vitamins d&k, 1x/day. I also rely heavily on Revival soy and eat at least 1 serving each and every day (a serving is a bar, some chips or soy nuts). The heart palps, racing heart and those associated issues have lessened considerably, my version of hot flashes (very HOT thighs!!) have been reduced considerably and, becasue I have the KNOWLEDGE that I am not going nuts and that other women here---strong, knowledgeable women---have gone through this as well has provided me with an acceptance and calmness that I do not believe I would have been able to achieve by myself. I am not saying that everything is pefectly ok---I had a racing heart and paps about 2 weeks ago---sent me straignt to the blood pressure cuff in my home....but---more managaebale and comfortable, certainly. One other thing that I have available to me---a RX for Xanax---which works wonders on me. I have reduced taking this over the last few months to an "as needed" basis and, right now---I hardly ever touch it. But it is in my purse and available to me should I have the need. It has a mild calming effect on me and helps me feel "ok"---I hope this is helpful to you. I do understand that heart issues are very scary----be sure to have everything checked out just to make sure---but know that many of us here really do undersatand your discomfort and fear---we have walked in your shoes. Let me know how it goes for you....

tongue.gif Thanks Chris,

If is always reassuring to know that someone is taking the time to read and care about about you are going through enough that they respond smile.gif

You are so right about this site. I am only about a 1 week member but it totally has helped. I thought I was the only one in the world that had this. I am absolutely terrified of M. D.'s so I use them is there is no other choice.

The MD I went to (through my HMO) didn't even listen to me about what I thought it might be....I'm vegan...could have been a vit. deficiency, or peri menopause...instead he went right for the "standard thyroid" suggestion and then heart....... he drew blood for all his tests....blew my vein so I am now sporting a baseball sized purple bruise....and then started ordering tests.... UGH! He ordered a Nuclear Stress test because he told me I had Wolf Parkinson White Syndrome and then when the Cariologist said I didn't have that (after he looked at my EKG) the first MD didn't cancel the Nuclear test. I was so upset over it that I just left the office BUT I don't want to have radioactive isotopes running in my veins if I don't need it....you know what I mean?

Now He's got me on blood pressure meds that ironically the warnings was " DO NOT TAKE IF YOU HAVE A THROID PROBLEM" LOL Well, my throid is fine but now I have to figure out how to get off this medicine.

Anyway, I am sure there are 1 or 2 good MD's out there....I just haven't met them. There are so many quacks around here that you would think I work on a duck farm. I am going to try taking progesterone cream and am starting to take the supplements (Including soy drink)

Today I went to a homeopathic Dr. today (that is an MD) and he told me to tell the guy I don't want the test and to get off the pills. I had a 2 hr apt. and he asked me a million questions to come up with my formula.....at least with homeopathic, it goes for a cure, not just to mask things.

Well, Thanks again. It is great to meet all of you and know I have a support group. smile.gif It's been great! Thanks to you and Power Surge smile.gif
Jenny JJJ
laugh.gif Opps almost forgot, I'm going to see if I can get an RX for something to relax me. I probably won't take it but like you said, it is nice to have "in case".

Thanks:)

Jenny:
Please let us know how you fare. I am very interested in the homeopathic approach as I am considering an Accu-Herbalist myself. I have heard good things about this approach and, since accupuncture and herbs have been around for centuries---I think it is a sound approach!! Anyway---I wish you resounding success--whatever you choose and I would suggest that you read and read these many posts and "nose around" this site. Knowledge is a very powerful thing!!

tongue.gif Thanks Chris,

I will keep you posted on the homeopathic approach. I know it is expensive and takes alot longer....I had 1 counseltation (1 hr with the Dr.) and then 2- 1.5 hr long Gua Sha/accupuncture treatments. He uses the results from the Gua Sha as a way to confirm if he is on the correct path. Then today I had my 2 hr. interview that he asks you questions about everything from do you like your bedroom hot/cold to what foods do you crave, etc. My Dr. is a board certified Homeopathic Dr. which I think is important. He used to be the head of orthopedic surgery and then he gave up traditional medicine and went to school to study homepathic.

I can tell you one thing, I'd rather have to pay $ out of my pocket and get "cured" then use my health insurance and feel like I am the center of a biology class experiment. You know?

I'm bummed since I can't use my essential oils during the treatment, but I'll get over it.

I'll keep you posted! Thanks again for the chat smile.gif

Hi Jenny,

I'm new here. Just got referred to this site from a friend and I'm loving it. Makes me feel less scared about all this. I too have been struggling with my BP being up. I absolutely know it's a result of my change. It started out being up a bit and has gradually climbed, but seems to be cyclical for me based on my periods, which I still have but they are very scanty. I have been into Holistic Health for over 20 years and see a Naturopath (trained under her for years) and we're working big time to resolve all these issues. I haven't had any medications in my body for years, pretty much over 20 years now, and did try a BP medication but it blew me apart, literally. I'm a small gal, 5'4" 110 lbs. and lost 3 lbs. of water in two days being on that crap!! Like you said, it's only masking symptoms and not healing the problem. All the years of training I've had....well we always go for the root of the problem, so that's our main focus. My Naturopath has determined that 'my personal issues' revolve around adrenal exhaustion. Every cotton pickin symtpom I'm having, although they are menopausal symptoms, stem from my adrenals. The adrenals also produce hormones and when they are down it cause more of a spiral downward for those of us in peri-menopause or menopause. The adrenals are also important for blood pressure regulation. This hasn't been a simple fix for me, by any means, and I tend to get impatient. But I am noticing more and more days that my BP isn't reacting. I have to be careful when I'm around people I don't like!! LOL It will go up then!! Stress......but the anxiety attacks are lessening now too AND I'm noticing that I actually can control them now with my thoughts - something that wasn't achievable before. This whole thing is pretty scary to deal with. I've always been very healthy and have taken good care of this body - and it feels like it's taken a major dump on me and I can't trust how things will be in any given moment. It feels better to know others are experiencing these same issues - it's not pleasant to suffer BUT if we know we aren't going to die - well that's worth something!! Peace of mind of key to healing. I do know that I'm gradually getting into the mode of calming myself and letting this beast ride through me and becoming less afraid. This has taken me some time to achieve too!! One of my good friends does polarity balancing and has told me to not be afraid when it rises up and starts, and that the energy will pass quicker if I don't restrain it and push it down. VERY hard to do but I'm practicing and it's working. Well I'm writing a book but wanted to let you know you aren't alone in this.
Jenny JJJ
Hi Sheila,

I just noticed your post. I so curious as to what you are going to do for your adrenals?

Do you wake up in with the racing heart/pounding heart in the middle of the night?
Do you also have the internal shaking/jittery/anxious feeling?

You are the first person who has said their Dr. said they have adrenal exhaustion. Mine did too and has me on herbs but so far I am not seeing any imporovement.

I just finished with my period and all my symptoms are always amplified before/during and then after for about a total of 1 week to 10 days.

I'd like to hear more about what you are doing and what your plans are to do to restore function.
