Has anyone had this symptom. I get this heaviness in my chest and I feel like it even goes into my neck. It is not pain.....It is like a tight feeling and even having a bra on is uncomfortable. I have had it for a couple of weeks but it is not going away and the fatigue I have had over the last couple of weeks is even more than with just the menopause symptoms I have had for the last few years. I thought it might be anxiety because I have that really bad so I went out to walk late yesterday and it just got worse instead of better. Then I really began to panic.
I have been to the cardilogist for a workup last year which included a stress ekg and echocardiogram. They also did a 24 hour holter monitor test and it showed that I do indeed have a mitral valve prolapse and a pulse rate that runs a little high and at times will shoot up to 120 for a couple of minutes and then back to 80. My cholesterol was 199 but I brought that down to 178 by losing a little weight. My CRP was slightly elevated but he felt that was due to my having a case of the shingles in January which is an inflamation and he scheduled me to have all the blood work repeated in August.
I know myself well enough to know that I can work myself into a real state and my mind is oh so powerful. Any words of encouragement would be much appreciated.

Since I don't know your age and since you had a cardiology workup last year. perhaps further investigation is in order. Hearing that it "goes into your neck" would worry me a bit as I can remember the same thing happening to my husband and he had a mild heart attack. Just keeping all avenues open for investigation.

I had the same symptoms. Tight feeling in my chest, bra felt too tight, couldn't wear a shirt that went up to my neck. The whole feeling precipitated anxiety and panic and everything got worse. It turned out that I have a hiatal hernia with reflux (even though I don't get heartburn feeling and burning.) It's common to get digestive problems in perimenopause. I take Nexium now and feel so much better.

SybilleRuth.....I will be 54 on Monday. It is not like any of the anxiety problems I have had in the past so that was why I was worried. Maybe I should call the doctor.

Yes, I think you should Gramz, if only to put yourself at ease.
Surely though if it was heart pain it wouldn't be constant for such a long time. Are your ankles puffy. If you press your fingers into your ankles does it leave a mark for a while?

Alice....no water retention so my ankles are not puffy and my hands are not swollen.

[B]Hello,
I have had chest pressure ...shortness of breath and dizzy or ligh headed.
They sent me to ER and admitted me. I had ekg's and stress test and also a heart catheterization because of a false positive to the stress test.
I had an ultrasound of epigastric area. Nothing there. I am set for a echocardogram. I am light headed and then my pulse stops for a couple beats and then flipflops and is weird. Is this what You are having?
I am disgusted, no one is helping me. The chest pressure goes up into my neck area also. I am 53. In excellent health other than out of shape haha...
ALl my blood work was good too. How about you? It sounds alot like what I have. Whatever that is????????????

I sympathize with you all. I have been having this for the last few months and have had all the tests and no solution. The heaviness in the chest is just incredibly
uncomfortabe even with the bra removed.
My mom used to complain about similar symptoms so I have resigned myself to the fact that it must be MENOPAUSE but I would still make sure you guys get all the tests done. Does everyone have differant symptoms on differant days/months?
I am experiencing that heaviness which has been accompanied by a bout of gassiness resulting in flatulence. Of course, I am probably making it much worse by thinking about it.
I have had cardio workup about 10 months ago and all was fine. I think if this continues, I shall call my Doc.
Have a good night.
