I tried some natural progesterone cream ( wild yam ) a few weeks ago. I used it twice a day for about 2 weeks and saw no change. Was I giving it enough of a chance to work? or did I stop too soon?

Its in a pump bottle and said one pump was a dose. It seemed like alot to me. The brand is "Life-Flo" and its called "Progesta-care" It says it dispenses 20 mg of natural progesterone with each pump. It said to apply once a day, but i did twice a day initially to try and get it in my system. Was that my mistake?

Can too much = not working.

I am just curious as to if I should try it again.

Suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for the offer, but all I really looking for is an answer to my question. I know lots of people use and have good results from the OTC stuff.

I didnt think this was a hard question,, but from the looks of all the views and lack of responses, maybe its not so easy! unsure.gif

Hi Sierra,

According to my doctor progesterone cream can take 1 to 2 monthly cycles before any real changes are noticed and things become regulated. Also, the cream can cause symptoms to magnify during the first two weeks of use. Over the counter progesterone cream typically has a concentration of 1% to 3% of progesterone. So my guess is the reason you have not noticed changes could be because you are not getting enough. But also, 2 weeks simply could not be enough time and that you need to give yourself at least a month or maybe two. If you still don't notice any changes it might be that you need to see a doctor and have a compounded cream made for you with a higher concentration.

My doctor gave me a prescription for a compounding pharmacy to make for me with a concentration level of 10% progesterone so my dosages will equal 100mgl per application. I was so low in progesterone the over-the-counter stuff was not strong enough.

Hope this helps some.

Thank you so much Maeflower! Thats just what I needed to know. I had a TAH about 15 years ago and have only staved off the meno stuff with premarin. Time to go off though, so l quit cold turkey. So I imagine I have NO progesterone in my system. Guess I will give it a longer try.

Thank you so much for the response! smile.gif

What is the TAH? Is that the test to measure hormone levels in your system? I want to talk with my dr about doing that but want to know what I'm talking about so I have responses in case I get "Pooh-Poohed."
Karenlee
TAH is medical talk for total abdominal hysterectomy.

Sorry girls, I feel like an idiot. There are just too many acronyms out there to keep up with. Thanks for clearing that up.

I tried the otc progesterone creams..and got no response. Then did a saliva test and my level was near 0...the otc stuff just wasn't strong enough for me. I now use a compounded cream...it's pricey but it's good. Insurance does pay about 20-25% of it....wish it was more...
