Hi. I am 37 years old and like so many others here am trying to figure out what is up with me. I have had shorter time between periods with longer periods and sometimes normal ones for the past year - last year I addressed it with doc and - of course - blood work didn't show peri. So I just got on with life. The periods continue to be varied - last month it was a doozie - heavy and exhausting. NOW - this month - on day 35 - I get what appears to be my period but is little of nothing and last about 2 days?! Not that I'm complaining - no cramps! But this coupled with night sweats (periodic - usually week before period) and in the past year - 2 episodes of vertigo/dizziness just before period starts and identifying with some other symptoms - I really think this is the start of peri. I have been told that I can't be peri and I've been told it is very possible. I am tired to thinking something must be wrong because strange things are happening to my body. Just when I've gotten used to the funky periods - now I get something I wouldn't even call a period! This hasn't happened to me ever - (accept when pregnant)! Any reassurance or identifying with the insanity of not really knowing if this is peri would be greatly comforting!

I started getting the real light periods back in Sept, then went on NHRT, my periods were heavy & alot of cramps. Stopped the Biest & Progesterone, still had heavy bleeding & cramps.
Ended up with ovarian cyst, in Jan had tube, ovary with cyst removed.
Now I get my period every 22-23 days not as heavy , only bleed 2 1/2 days then shuts off.
ALthough the wonderful symptoms of sore breasts, anxiety to beat the band, sweats, seem to stick around way after my period is over.
I think you are in peri. And from my experience in the past 7 months what a ride it has been.

Hi Cinmax and welcome to power Surge! What you are experiencing sounds like peri meno to me. Blood work is unrealiable at this point because hormone levels flucuate daily. Keep reading all the boards and you will find many women start this journey around your age. Good luck and you have come to the right place.

Hi Cinmax,
Welcome to PS. I would say you are starting peri. Just because you are only 37 doesn't mean you are not in peri. My sister started through peri when she was 38. My mother, grandmother, and great grandmother all started through before they were 40. I'm 47 and the women in my family think I'm late in starting through meno. Your symptoms all wound like peri. And if your experience is anything like mine your doctor may not be of much help. Mine thought at 47 that I was too young and wasn't willing to do much except put me on birth control pills. I was not interested. PS has provided me with a place to vent and also find other women who have experienced what I have. Its a great place.

Thank you all for replying! It is so refreshing to not feel like I'm losing my mind. I started last year with some changes and I got one too many funny looks when I suggested peri as the reason so I just tried to forget about it. Nothing has been unbearable yet (will it get that way?) so I just try to go with it. The one thing I have noticed is that my periods are sometimes heavier and I am completing wiped out when I get it - this reminds me of when I first started getting them! Anyway - getting barely a period 35 days into my cycle was a major shock for me since that is not my normal period. Hope we can continue to chat since it is nice not to be dismissed or told it's all stress.

Welcome! All of your symtoms sound like peri. I've been on this crazy ride for at least 2 years and I'm almost 44. Actually, I think things started changing for me when I was about 40. I started getting migraines during the first two days of my period. Dr. dismissed that it was hormone related. Then a year later, the anxiety, heart palps in the middle of the night and horrible PMS started. For the past 6 months my periods have not been as regular as they always were and only last about 2 days, although the last period I had was 5 days (normal for me.) My Docs are so willing to push the BCP's to regulate things. I really don't care if my cycle is off, I just so want it to end.
