Hi Lumiere and Moody,So now I'm thinking that the is a phase to perimeno that includes vivid dreams and nitemares.  One way that I thought of that might help to keep the dreams at bay was before I go to sleep to have some air coming into my bedroom (the smallest opening I can get from the basedboard of the windowsill to the bottom of the window, since it is winter time and cold).  I've also turned the heat down in order to not assist my body temperture with the nite sweats.  Another thing I tried was TylynolPM(since it seems every joint, muscle and bones from my waist to my angles were aching), I got a sound-sleep-through-the-nite, non-vivid dream/nitemare rest; however, groggyness of the sleep aid made me tired and sleepy through the day.  So after taking the sleep aid for two nights, I stopped because I have to be alert at my job.  So, I heard that Valerian is a good sleep aid herb, and I'm going to try that next.  I'm coping and working with what's going on with me in this phase of perimeno.  However, I struggling to keep my sanity and moodness in check.  Wish me luck cause I sure do need it.!! Thanx for your responses!
Suzie
This must be a meno thing. I have had nights where I've had 2 or 3 dreams also and very vivid ones. Like you saY, often times they involve things I need to do. Sometimes I dream of something that doesn;t  make much sense or something or someone from the past. I haven't had the nightmares for awhile, but I remember having those several months ago.The amazing thing is that I remember the dreams and they seem real.
kaikai
this is the first time I've visited this site.  all these things I've been feeling: vivid dreams, teeth grinding, hot flashes, tears, sudden weight gain--but I'm only 41!  it can start this early??  it sure would explain alot.  I've felt like I've come down with some disease.  kaikai
MaryO
Hi, Kaila!  Yes, you can start at 41, or even younger.

Welcome to Power Surge!  You've come to the best possible place for information and support.  You can find some of the vast amount of information that our host and founder, Dearest, has provided for us by checking out some of the Power Surge Quick Links in the top right corner of every page here.

Best of luck to you, and welcome aboard smile.gif

Kaikai,  I started this whole menopause thing at 41 also. My GP keep telling me I was to young when I asked if it was possible that is what was happening to me. Then I went to a gyno. He also thought I was to young. He tested me to give me the benifit of the doubt. Then he said he was very wrong in fact my numbers turned out to be very close to Post menopause. So join the club. I think we have both come to the right place.   Take care. Lizzy

Hi Kaikai

I'm 41 and have all the things that you have going on and people keep telling me that i'm to young. went to see doctor said periods still reg so i'm not . but the last time i saw a different doc and explained things that were happening to me and he said to get some blood tests done and see where we go from what the results say at least i now feel someones listening to me. Have you been to the doctors.?

jc50  Have been taking Valerina night which is valerium and it has really helped me . i am a lot calmer  and more relaxed give it a try.

Take carePauline

kaikai
thanks so much guys for your help.  I had no idea that I should ask for a blood test.  my periods are regular like clockwork, so I felt silly asking my gyn about this.  i'm so glad I found Power Surge today.
Lizzy49
Kaikai,   My periods were also regular every month. The only different thing with mine is they got heavier and heavier. Also longer. The day my son was married I was on my 19 day of my period. You can imagine how I felt.   Just so glad I have found this board to know I am not alone.    Lizzy
kaikai
so lizzy, did the doctor put you on hormone replacement therapy?  and does that keep the periods from going on and on?  I'd be practically tempted to go ahead and have a hysterectomy rather than deal with month long periods.  also, we're sorta conditioned by the medical community to just see our ovaries as cancer breeders after we have kids anyway.  i'm looking at the topics about progest. cream, but the postings seem to be more about dose, less about what it does and pros cons over its use compared to estrogen replacement.  what are your thoughts?
Lizzy49
kaikai,  I have been on HRT.  It did wonders for the flashes, mood, sleeping etc. everything but the bleeding.  He put me on a drug called danazol. Since I have taken it I havn't had a period (Sept 30th was the last one.)  So needless to say I have my fingers crossed. This past couple of weeks I have made pack with myself that I would cut  out sugar cafine and I would walk. I think that is bringing a bit of relief and also this board is helping me tremendously. Just knowing that I am not losing it and that there are other going through the same thing has taken alot of the stress off. Hysterectomy I don't know I am in as much of a fish bowl as you are about that. I know it would stop the bleeding but it doesn't solve the other symptoms. I wish you well with this. Lizzy.
MaryO
hi, Kaikai.

HRT can be regulated to keep your periods from being so long, or eliminate them alltogether.

However, to me it seems like a kind of high cancer risk, just to regulate your periods.

Several years ago, I went on continuous HRT (estrace/provera) to help with my meno symptoms.  I was so concerned with the increased risk for breast cancer that I planned to go off by my 50th birthday.  Luckily, about that time Revival Soy came out (you can read more about that, and other menopause helpers that Dearest has compiled for us at Power Surge Recommendations) and I decided to give that a try.  I went off the HRT successfully.  My period did come back when I was no longer on the continuous HRT, but as long as I didn't forget my Revival, they stayed normal, for about 3 days, as I recall.

Since that time, I've been especially glad that I went off the HRT, especially with all the news items that came out in the past year.  Interestingly enough, all the "news items" were the same things that Dearest had been telling us for years, here on the boards, the chats and the rest of the Power Surge website.

Best of luck to you, whatever you decide to do,  Kaikai!

Hysterectomy is a serious operation, albeit not triple bypass surgery, but nonetheless, serious. I, personally, would never entertain having a hysterectomy unless it was absolutely, unmitigatedly *necessary*. And, even if one doctor suggested it were, I would get two additional opinions. There are a whole host of problems after hysterectomies are performed. You might want to read the excellent transcript of Elizabeth Plourde, CLS, MA, a clinical laboratory scientist and author of Your Guide to Hysterectomy, Ovary Removal, and Hormone Replacement: What All Women Need to Know.

To add to Mary's message, the only hormone therapy Power Surge endorses is bio-identical, or the new term, HIH - human-identical, plant-derived, naturally compounded hormones. Studies have shown that you can get the same benefits from very small doses. There's no need to start off with high doses of any type of hormone. They claim that even 1/2 the conventional dose can be quite effective, and after the halting of the WHI study, everyone is a not only more leary of taking HRT, but knows if it is used, it should only be used short-term.

As for the natural progesterone creams, or NP, while I was going through perimenopause, it never helped me. I tried many, many times, and different brands, but it never did anything. Some women seem to be helped by it, but it seems when they are, they're in the earliest stages of perimenopause when estrogen levels are still within normal ranges (reasonably high). Once they moved more into the process and estrogen levels began declining, they needed to balance their hormones with not only estrogen but a more viable form of naturally compounded micronized progesterone OR a prescription dose of progesterone cream. There are so many delivery systems for hormones, I would still prefer using a prescription transdermal than an OTC brand.

Every woman is different and requires different doses. You'll find excellent information on, as Mary said, the recommendations page, and you'll find additional information in the Educate Your Body area of the site, especially in the article about natural hormones.

My dreams have recently become disturbing to me (I'm 3 years peri).  I have always loved my dreams, loved the "landscape" and "architecture" of them, it was alway like revisiting favorite places I had been dreaming about for years.

Now, nothing is familiar about them -- the look, the sound, the flow -- and I hate it.  Everything is off, distorted, like some bad painting from the guy who did the melting pocket watches (having a peri mental moment and forgetting his name!)

The dream changes have come with new changes in my cycle and an serious increase in peri symptoms.

Not fun at all.

So many of these 34 fit me too a tee. But I am also bleeding nonstop. My GYN says I am not ovulating so will have to be put on something to stop the bleeding. Then a low dose BC to try to regulate it. I am very anxious about taking these things again at 45. I have not taken the pill in over 20 years. Does anyone know anything about the low dose pill Cyclessa.

Becky, a better place to get information about this would be on the Estrogen & Hormone Replacement Therapy Board or the Bleeding board.

Best of luck to you with this!

Hello everyone.

I'm 54 and believe I am starting menopause.  I suffered mild depression this past winter and the doctor put me on 10 mg of Lexapro which helped tremendously.  However, I've had breakthru bleeding shortly after I started Lexapro, it's barely there but it's there.  So... is the breakthru bleeding due to the drug?  Or menopause?  Also, my last period (this is kind of gross) but there were quite large clots of blood.

I will go back to the doctor this week but I'm wondering if anyone else has struggled with this too?

Gemini
Hi Rose, welcome to peri meno world wink.gifI don't know if the bleeding is due to the drug, or to meno, though I'm sure your Dr will put your mind at ease there. Lots of us seem to have this business with clots, happens to me sometimes, but not every month. I hope everything goes ok for you, keep coming to Power Surge, there is plenty of info and always someone to answer you.Bye for now smile.gif

Have done lots of reading on the boards and topic areas. Getting really confused.Big guestion I have....I have several perimeno symptoms ie; hotflashes, insomnia, fluctuationg libido, 3 week cycles with varying cramps/flow/emotions. Have decided I would like to try OTC creams, but,  will using these meds send my body (symptom wise) back out of peri? This may be confusing to you all( didn't want to feel alone), but I'm actually ready and wanting to be done with the "fertile" time of my life and don't want to send it backwards. Make sense? Or am I just nuts?!
Suzie
That's a good question ! I'll tell you what happened in my case. I started using the natural progesterone cream about 1 1/2 years ago. I used it for about 6 or 7 months. It seemed to help at first with some of my symptoms, but as time went on I noticed I had unbearable anxiety and panic attacks during the days I had to go off the cream for my period. Finally I decided to just go off the cream and battle tne anxiety highs and lows. As soon as I stopped- so did my periods! I had some spotting for about 3 months after that during the time when my period would be due and then they stopped altogether. It's been 10 months now since I had a period, so I guess I'm experiencing menopause.I've always wondered if my periods would have come back if I went back on the cream, but I'm like you. I just wanted to get it overwith !

feel2 young,You are not nuts... just looking for answers like the rest of us. Wouldnt it be nice to wake up tommorow & have this be gone? I myself dont have any experience with over the counter products, I think we all have to do a little research on what works for us... I think you might consult with your doctor before you try it . You could also take a look at the Recommendations page as well as transscripts from all the experts Dearest has had on the different chats. Ask the Experts is also good place to look for answers. There is a ton of info here Good Luck , I hope you find what works for you.

Hello All,I'm new to this site...and I'm glad to have found it!  Here on day 9 of my period {after a nice three week break!ohmy.gif }  I thought this couldn't be happening to me, I'm only 40. Could this also be the reasons for my memory lapses? Good to know I am also not crazy!

I've noticed that I smell different. My beloved perfume is different and I'm seriously considering changing anti-perspirants.  Luckily, the boyfriend likes the perfume anyway. I've always had a sensitive nose. Perimenopause seems to have exaggerated it.
HotFeet
Hello Everyone,I am new here. Thank God, a friend I met at a retreat suggested this website.

My problem is my hot feet which get so warm that I have developed rashes and prickly  heat. Very uncomfortable. I have to stick my feet out of the covers at night.

I have a few of the other symptoms too, mostly dizziness and mental fuzziness. Work has been hard at times and I have had to go home. The other women at work seem to understand. But everybody is on HRT and I don't want to do that. Oh well. Glad to have you all to talk to.

dcamp
Hi Hotfeet

Neat handle!   I don't get hot flashes or hot feet either, but I do suffer from the dizziness that you mentioned.  I have talked to many of my friends who are all going through this phase of their lives----but none of them experience the dizzies.  How often do you feel like this and what have you found helps?

HotFeet
Thanks dcamp,I have struggled a little with learning to navigate this site and your reply gives me hope that I am connecting here. The dizziness started about once every 9 months for only a day or two - that was 5 years ago. It did not return for a 1 year and a half. Recently, about every 2 months, I will feel strange like I am in slow motion. It is not unlike the beginnings of having the flu. I have gone home sick. Now I know that it is my hormones. It is still best for me to go home or graciously back out of engagements as I am not really present in my body. I have used evening primrose oil, flax seed oil in a preparation called Essential Woman. It has helped but I now need to take it as a daily supplement instead of the sporadic use that was my previous pattern. Thanks again for your reply. You gave me courage to try other posts. On to Depression as a topic! (ha ha)

Wow does this explain alot. i have lots of these symptoms listed and lately dizziness. like a hangover without drinking.Soy and estro-progest cr has greatly improved everything. darling:P

I'm 52, have had a few cycles this past year but feel that this is probably the end of my periods. I wanted to know if anybody feels just plain sick. I walk around feeling like I have a mild flu. I feel sweaty, sick to my stomach. I feel like i have a fever but i don't. I also feel weak but my muscle strength is fine. Then I think it's all just anxiety, but did the anxiety cause the physical distress or did the physical distess cause the anxiety?Anybody with the same symptoms????
ej
Another symptom! Each time I got up from the couch tonight I felt lightheaded and as I stood, I felt like I was going to faint. It's listed as a symptom. Has it happened to you?
joliejacq
hey ej, I do get faint from time to time, and actually fainted in January, when I had the flu - passed right out on the bathroom floor! The doc checked my blood pressure, and it was okay; all other tests are normal. I know anemia can cause lightheadedness when you suddenly sit or stand. Also, the post before yours, the idea of feeling "sick all the time," like one is starting the flu - I've been having that a lot, walking around nauseated and in a daze. Will this fun never end?
ej
Joliejacq I don't think that this is what they meant when they said "the golden years":P Have a good night! EJ
MyFaith
Thank God that I found this list. I see the cold flashes are listed...I don't have hot flashes an I've been having these chills for over 5 years (I think), they only occurr the week before my period would start so I knew that they were hormonal related. My main thing now is this spacey, woosie, eyes not focusing correctly, lightheaded, off balance feeling occurring 24/7. Sometimes I wonder if anyone else experiences this feeling as intense as I do, an is it really perimenopausal related. Thank God for sites like Power Surge.
AnxietyAttack
HI My Faith Yes I have had everything you are talking about. Though the Chills have been replaced by Hot Flashes & Night Sweats. Don't know which is worse. The Woozy,Off-Balance (could be my middle name, lately),jumpy eyes, all that lovely stuff. Is this not BLISS? Feel Better! AA

Hello everyone, I just read all the signs & I have so very many of them. I had posted somewhere else about burning tongue & now I see others have it & it is listed as a symptom. I would have drs look at me like I was crazy & they didn't know what to do w/me. I tried various things but still yrs later have it & some days it just about drives me nuts. In fact, when it first happened it was very painful. I felt like nobody understood & they thought it was anxiety or in my head. I had one dr tell me oh, just ignore it !!! Well, I wonder how you would ignore it, if it was your tongue, buddy !!! I left that dr. I too chew eclipse & it does help but my teeth aren't good from all my meds & I hate to chew it all the time. I can't say thank you enough for this site. I am just so glad I saw an ad in a magazine about this site, that is how I discovered it. Alleluia !!! There are others that understand & have the same symptoms. God Bless everyone. I feel better just knowing you are here. NanaKat
Boone
Larah, I have had the sick flu-like feeling on and off during the 2.5 years I have been going through this. Just when I think I am doing good - wham a new symptom hits me. This week anxiety has been building -and now today, I am wiped out. I am at work, but feel so weak and shakey that I just want to go to bed. This is terrible - when I have so many things I would love to be doing if only I wasn't so tired. Does anyone else have a problem with being so tired? or is this depression??? I don't feel sad - just so ridiculously tired? I am on Natural HRT and wonder if I should just quit taking all of it! Boone
florida
Boone, I've been dealing with the fatigue(sometimes extreme) and anxiety alot too and I'm sure it's all peri related. Of course I don't sleep well anymore and that doesn't help. Right now I am only using Revival, but thinking about natural HRT. What are you using and for how long? Hang in there...you have lots of company. At least it's Friday!! smile.gifsmile.gifsmile.gif

Boone - this tired business is making me crazy, especially since it's so unpredictable. Tired and stupid to boot. Just sat in an important meeting this morning interviewing high powered candidates for a position and they gently pointed out that the question I asked had just been asked (and answered) by the guy across the table. I was so tired I didn't care. I started with an estrogen patch two weeks ago and it seems to be helping my energy level. I used to get 45 mins of exercise every morning before work, work a 9 hour day, have an evening activity and still feel great. Weekends I'd hike or paddle for miles. Had to put all of that on hold. Been dropping in on yoga a few times a week, but even baby yoga seems hard. This afternoon it's easy to say "hang in there, it does get better". smile.gif This morning I wouldn't have been so encouraging. sad.gif I HATE unpredictability.
Boone
Hi Florida, Since you asked that question you get to hear me whine! I am in a bad hormonal experiment! Before perimenopause started I was never sick a day in my life and was "Miss Energy Deluxe". I have tried everything known to mankind to try to fix this. Can you sense my sarcasm today?- smile.gif First I tried birth control pills, then I tried progesterone cream - then I tried progesterone pills - then I tried Vivelle Dot and progesterone pills - now I am on Biest and sublingual progesterone from Bellevue Pharmacy. I also take a small dose of trazadone for sleep. I still have cramps and spotting starting halfway through my cycle and terrible PMS on and off thru the month. Today I am on Day 16 of my cycle and I swear I am about to start my period. What do you girls think - am I better off without hormone replacement????? I also just started CBT to see if it can help me deal with all this. In my case I don't know if I will ever find a solution - I think I may just have to outlast it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
MyFaith
Otter and Boone you both made my day. I'm just laughing at myself in your postings. Thank God for Power Surge and such awesome, down to earth, supportive, encouraging, and loving women like yourselves. Otter, oh!!! do I ever understand about the unpredictability of these hormones. This morning I woke up feeling energized, not too woosie, ready to roll full speed ahead (like my old self), now I'm tired, woosie/spacey feeling, and tired of thinking about this stuff 24/7. I truly look forward to those peri-free days again when I don't have to plan around how I'm feeling, an I'm not dwelling on these symptoms. Laughter and other female support has been my medicine. Boone don't feel alone I'm in the boat with you rowing fairly slow right now because I'm tired smile.gif, but still rowing! Like yourself I'm trying to figure out what will work. I'm in the process of taking the saliva test first thing Sunday morning, then I will start using the progesterone cream. I've finally found a nurse practitioner who is working with me to become balanced. She's also a blessing, because she went through horrible perimenopause an is now doing very well. There can be an happy ending to this rollercoaster ride tongue.gif. I also found a doctor who is suppose to be quite knowledgeable an also involved in women's health issue research, but my appointment isn't until June 23. That's okay, I'm just glad to know a doctor who's familiar with compounding, bioidentical hormone therapy, an other means of treating women's health issues besides administering an anti-depressant. Now, I'm not knocking antidepressants, because I'm taking Wellbutrin right now, but one pill doesn't fit all biggrin.gif. Hmmm.......I think I'm beginning to ramble:D. We will get through this together. Love, MyFaith
Boone
MyFaith, You made me smile too! One thing you mentioned really struck home. I noted that you are taking Welbutrin yet still suffer many of the perimenopause symptoms such as fatigue - woosiness. I keep thinking that antidepressants might be the answer for me - but when I try them the side effects kill me. By reading your post I realize that even if I could take them I wouldn't feel perfect. I guess maybe the answer is that there is no real cure - we really do just have to get through this. Power Surge is such a great learning tool! Thanks for the pep talk. Love, Boone
MyFaith
AnxietyAttack, how are you feeling today? Has anything helped you with this woosie feeling? I had about 2 1/2 days this month where I felt almost 100% like myself, they are days 14, 15, and 16 of my cycle. I've began journaling in hopes of figuring this thing out. What have you tried or are using now?
taxiwhizz
i too have lightheadedness 24/7 for two years. It is driving me crazy cos i cant do anything. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what helps. Also get real jelly legs around my period and just after. Always feels like they are going to give way but they never ever do
AnxietyAttack
HI MyFatih & Other Meno-Pals, Today was another goofy day. My head was floating around in space for most of the day. And wobbling onf my shoulder the other half.LOL And anxiety was high but probably not from peri, just everyday stresses. I have gone cold turkey, when all this 1st started (1999) my Doc wanted to put me on prozac saying I was having anxiety attacks. She said all I needed to do was learn how to relax, I tried to tell her that I was never like this and that it must be peri but she told me I was too young. I went back again and they told me the same thing. So I figured, I knew in my heart what was happening, so I just decided to tough it out . No use talking to Doc's, they probably dont know anymore than we do. And I figured, with my luck the meds would do more harm than good. I tried to journal my symptoms but then I became too conscience of all my symptoms and dwelled on them too much. So I figured SCREW IT!!! Whatever happens, happens. Boone, tiredness is a killer. I know my cousin (she is in Meno now, finally, and dancing in the streets), told me she had unbelievable tiredness. They tried her on all kinds of meds. Did not do squat for her. And as far as the depression. who the HECK would'nt be depressed feelling the way we do. It will get better. Otter-Cracked me up the story about your meeting. I have done the same thing. People look at me like I'm nuts. It's like your brain sometimes cannot even comprehend what people are telling you. It feels like a computer hard drive on it's way to crashing. TaxiWhizz I have had the Jelly Legs also. I felt exactly like you, that they would not hold me up. Good News that eases up also. It is a Pain- in- the BUTT though having to deal with it and a little scary. Girls the lightheadness does get better. I had it for a long time 24/7. I thought I gotta have a brain tumor, or I'm dying of something. Now I get it every now and then, maybe 2-3 days in a row, twice a month. Sometimes even go a month without it. It does get really bad before and sometimes after my period. Hope you all have better days tomorrow. AA
taxiwhizz
Thanks for your reply. It is nice to hear that eventually it will go away but in the meantime it is a real pain in the neck. Each day is a real struggle to do absolutely anything but what else can we do except keep going until it eases up - Hope its soon!!

You know, today I finally decided to check the list. I had gone over it the first time I visited PS, but was overwhelmed a the time and just noticed I had several of them. I counted that I have 29 out of 34. After being part of PS for a while, those 29 don't seem as bad as 10 would have seemed a year ago. -Mary Beth smile.gif

hello moody, i actually chuckled a little bit because i have woke up many nights with my side and hip hurting. i turn over and finally fall alseep and wake again with the other side hurting. also i just went through a whole month with a regular period then three days off and then another period followed by spotting. i havent had another nowsince the end of march. i went on remifemin two weeks ago and my night sweats and hot flashes are getting to be less everyday. i also went on natures bounty progesterone cream twice a day and that has helped quite a bit. im hoping that it will get better with each day that passes. ive had bad headaches but my doctor gave me something to head them off before they come. the thing that is most disturbing is i can not lose any weight. i would like to lose about 15 lbs. i need some advice for anyone that can help me with this problem. i hope that once i finally get into menopause that i may get back on track with my weight. im 55 and i guess im a late bloomer with this thing called menopause. hope to hear from you and anyone that can HELP!!! ME.

Yup. You can actually have random hot flashes for the rest of your life. Of course, they're not going to be anything like they were during perimenopause -- but I remember my mother having an occasional hot flash in her 80's and have heard of other women who've also experienced hot flashes after being menopausal for a few years - myself included. You know, hot flashes aren't simply a vasomotor symptom of perimenopause -- but can be related to low estrogen when you're older -- or can be connected to anxiety. You can get hot flashes from drinking caffeine, from just getting excited. The term "hot flash" wasn't coined purely for women going through their changes. If they become bothersome, you might want to use something to treat them. There are many remedies -- from Revival Soy Protein to naturally compounded, bioidentical hormones. There are herbal formulas such as Menoplan. Check out the Recommendations page to see what vitamins (such as taking vitamin E every day) you can use to treat the hot flashes. For the last 3 years I've been trying to figure out if I'm in perimenopause. I have all the symptoms (and I do mean all of them except 14, 32 and 33) but of course all the test show I am not in menopause. I'm 44 and had a saliva test done, my doctor scolded me when I came in for the results saying I should have told her I was on birth control. I told her I was not on anything and she said my estrogen levels were almost flat lined and that they should show more fluctuation. She was not sure what to make of it. Has anyone else had this result from their saliva test? I drink and eat a lot of soy products can this be the cause?
