Is this a sign of peri-menopause or what? Terrible joint pain, muscle aches, cramping in the feet and calfs. This all started at the same time as heavy non-stop periods, anxiety, dizziness, etc. etc. What is going on?

Hi Shark,

I'm much more prone to body aches since dealing with perimenopause. And like you, everything kind of hit at the same time.

Fun, huh?

Others have also talked about the dizziness (that's been a big one on the boards in the last couple weeks). Also nausea, anxiety, etc.

Consider that we've had stores of estrogen circulating throughout our bodies and brains for 30+ years (most of us, anyway), and now it is fluctuating, or is in fact depleted. This can affect virtually any system in the body! The good news is that things can ease up when a natural balancing occurs, as other organs in the body begin to produce smaller, but helpful, amounts of estrogen.

It's the "peri" part that's a pain!! mad.gif Good luck!

Mexican Wild Yam is good for cramp (Homeopathic book).

Am I remembering correctly but is this too a Magnesium deficiency? blink.gif

I wondered if any ladies have the joints aches and muscle pains, and if so could you tell me how long the last? I had them for 1 year now with no sign of improvement. Anyone told that it is Fibromyalgia only to find out it is the natural stage of peri?

I have done alot of research and there is a list of 35 symptoms of perimnopause 1 of them is fibromyalgia, anxiety it is horrible. I have been having the most horrible time since Sept. I will be 47 in May. I am looking for so many answers & there hasn't been 1 dr to help me.
Are you having trouble with sleeping, anxiety?

Talk soon

Amazingly I DID remember correctly!

Nancy and Shark,

Listen to Alice. Magnesium can help joint aches and pains. I just started taking it 2 days ago and I woke this morning with much less pain than usual. I was having a horrible time with it. Hopefully this is not a fluke and it will keep helping.

Good Luck

I was having ALOT of muscle aches and pains in my legs....and when i would try to go to sleep at night,my legs would twitch real bad.I started walking on a tread mill every day and it has pretty much gone away,so exercise helps.

I've had chronic neck pain for at least 4 years and have been through every kind and shape of pillow. I finally went to see a chiropractor. After just one visit, my neck pain is almost completely gone. If I would have known, I would have gone so much sooner.

He also adjusted my hips, which I didn't realize I had a problem with. You would not believe how good that felt. I didn't know that I was so stiff before. I always thought that chiropractors were voodoo docs, but I guess they do have their place and I'll be going back.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia but.....I just saw a doctor the other day and he said that many women have "fibromyalgic symptoms" and they will last throughout peri and menopause. He told me that many women once they are thru this hurdle this pain will subside significantly. My friend was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 12 years ago and now her pain isn't near as bad as it used to be. She said the pain has lessened by 75%. I believe that most of the women in the age group 35-50 have these fibromyalgic symptoms due to peri and menopause. I got a 2nd opinion with another doctor and he confirmed that I didn't have "fibromyalgia" but did display the symptoms which are brought on by hormonal changes.

I also have the fibro symptoms. Went to neurologist & Rheumatologist both said not fibromyalgia, but from Peri & Meno hormonal imbalancement. I also notice that certain times of the month it isn't as bad as other times. So I guess this is just something else we have to live with during this journey.

I also had the muscle cramps mostly in my calfs. I even made a trip to the emergency room because they thought it might be a blood clot. The cramping was terrible to the point where I couldn't even walk. Once the cramping disappeared after about three weeks, the muscle twitching began (both calfs) and feet. My calfs and feet twitch all day and night since November. I went to a neuro and he did two MRI's and an EMG to check the muscles. They found everything to be normal! I am sure it is just another symptom of menopause. I do exercise on the treadmill at least four days a week. It seems to make the twitching worse, but I have gotten so use to it now it hardly bothers me except at night when I try to sleep. Hopefully someday this will disappear also. Kim

I have also been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, FMS is a syndrome (set of concurrent symptoms that indicate or characterize a disorder or disease) Peri-meno symptoms almost match FMS to a Tee! I just know I feel crappy AND I don't care what label they put on it!
