Hi Marti,

I think you might do better with something like Vitamin E oil (you can buy a bottle of this, or break open a Vitamin E capsule). Someone recently suggested aloe, saying they simply pick off a branch and squeeze out the liquid.

The concern about hydrocortisone is that it's actually a low-dose steroid. I think it says on the tube that it's not for internal use, also.

I have used Benedryl cream on occasion for vaginal itching - it works very well.

Perhaps someone will have other ideas for you?

Good luck!

Hi Marti,

See the next subject on this line re: recurrent yeast infections/dryness. I just had a painful vaginal flare up so bad that it disturbed my sleep. I thought it was yeast but its "just the aging process". I saw my GYN and she said to use Hydrocortisone cream/oint for two weeks and yes, the over the counter version is safe to use. I wondered about estrogen cream and she said if the Hydrocortisone did not work she would prescribe that but so far the Hydrocortisone is working.
Good luck! wink.gif

My last year's gyn exam was very painful due to what she said was atrophic vaginitis sad.gif . The tissues had become very dry & tight. She had to use a teen girl's speculum & it still hurt. I hadn't had that happen before & read about all kinds of lubricants you can get & also about using vitamin E oil which I use on scars. I went one better. I started taking an entire 200 IU vitamin E capsule & putting it in as far as I could get it. I'd had surgical menopause in 1997 & my doc had had me use premarin creme for about a month or 2 post op. I still had the old applicator & just put the capsule in it. Worked like a charm smile.gif . No more dryness or that little pinprick feeling I was starting to get. I just use a capsule 2 or 3 times a week & everything's fine.In between I just use Vitamin E oil on a Q tip,esp after a shower . I just had an exam a couple of weeks ago & there was no pain or dry tight tissues. I was back to normal biggrin.gif ! My doc says using the E was a good idea. BTW, I read somewhere that some women use CRISCO ohmy.gif ! My doc says she only recommends that if you have really red raw burning tissues. Any of you ever tried Crisco ?

No, but what a funny idea!!! laugh.gif Maybe I'll try it next time I whip up a batch of pie dough!

I appreciate your idea about the vitamin E capsule. I have all the soreness you mention, and this is DEFINITELY worth a try.

Thanks!

You all are great! I love the dialogue going on here...I'm new to it! Yes, had the vaginal dryness as well but more on the outside, so tried vitamin E thanks to you all and voila! I was healed. I will try it inside, too. By the way, for external dryness and chafing, I used desitin, too, over the vitamin E.

About black cohosh...yes, it can be used - an herbal supplement - to help reduce menopausal symptoms. I've read that it should be used only for 6 months, as one would not want an inrease in estrogen over that amount of time, plus studies have been short on it, I believe. But it seems safe from what I've read. I know someone who used it and that's all she ever used during menopause and she remained quite sexually active. You get it OTC. I just started it. I also take flaxseed oil pills to help my adrenal glands not get exhausted. There is is a lot of info you can find on black cohosh, I think even on the this website. It seems like a nice alternative.

Good luck.
