Full Version: The Hot Flashes got worse

Hi.

It's been a while since I've posted. Things are looking up, a lot of the nasty peri symptoms have gone away.

I haven't had a period since August 31, 2004 and my last blood tests showed that I am post menopausal, not ovulating at all.

BUT.

Each month that has gone by since December, the hot flashes and the night sweats have gotten worse. They wake me up at night and so I'm never getting a decent night's sleep. I also sleep "clenched" so my muscles ache in the mornings.

After ovulation stops, how long do the hot flashes/night sweats go on for? Is it "normal" for them to be more noticeable now that the periods have stopped?

I'm taking a multi vitamin plus a calcium/magnesium/vitamin D supplement. Should I add Estroven to that, or just Black Cohosh? I'm not taking HRT.

I posted a reply on a similar vein which did not go down too well with the menobuds... Dr Miriam Stoppard says that they can go on up to 10 yrs post with some ladies!

My flashes when they happen are also very powerful now, tho not as frequent. Living up to your name Dragon! haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

From what i have read everyone is different.
I never had hot flashes & night sweats until after
my period stopped for 3 years. Then when they did
hit they hit hard & fast. I suffered for 3 months then i started taking
Black Cohosh. It helped me some. I was able to get some sleep.
For 1 year i did really well. Then they came back just as fast.
I have been having them for 2 months now & they are finally
easing up. JUst hang in there & remember you are not going nuts.
They make you feel that way. You get strange feelings. Its just your hormones
going crazy. When it happens just laugh at them. Good luck things do get
better. Also keep a fan handy & a cold wash cloth. It Helps

How nice of you to post this.

I agree, the symptoms just seem to come and go, and there seems to be no real pattern to it.

I haven't had a period since mid-November, and really only rarely have hot flashes, and I don't get night sweats at all anymore. But I'm not cocky enough to think they won't ever come back (and overall in peri, I've had more struggles with emotional stuff rather than physical stuff).

Hey Dragon:
I'm new to this forum and this is my first posting.
Soy is the way to go. Soybeans, Powdered Soy Milk, Tofu or Regular Soy Milk helps. There is a product on the market called Soya Pro which is Soy Protein Isolate made by Swiss Herbal Remedies in Richmond Hill, Ont. You just add a tablespoon to a cup of milk. This product has greatly helped me . In fact I have been on Premarin for the last 15 years .9mg and with soy have reduced my dosage to .3 .Also warm soy milk before going to bed will help you get a better night's sleep.
