I know a few women who are post menopausal and they still have "phantom"
symptoms of a menstual cycle. It seems like the body always keeps a cycle.

Any comments?

A couple of people have posted about this in the time since I've joined P-S, so it does seem possible. If it's true that our menstrual cycles are guided by the moon, it would make sense that still continues on some level with whatever hormones we have circulating, wouldn't it?

An interesting notion.

I know several women who have PMS issues after natural or surgical pauses....makes sense especially if you are still hauling around estrogen either hiding in your fat cells or self-administered...the hits just keep on comin'...

I would agree. I had a total hysterectomy last year in June 2005. I am 53 and still cycling like I used to. mad.gif I always had very regular cycles and I still have most of the symptoms I used to have. I don't get the dizzy spells from bleeding and the severe brain fog anymore, but I get everything else, yet not as bad as it used to be. I am still debating whether the surgery was worth it. I am now plagued by frequent yeast infections and burning skin sensations over most of my body. I feel like I traded one thing for another. huh.gif

I remember starting this thread last year. It is as if the body has "cell
memory" and even if our "parts" are non-working or removed the brain
can still send messages to our body like it has been doing for years.

Does anyone know anything about thyroid & menopause? I'm 42 years old. Hypothyroid. Menopausal. 12 mos. without period - also FSH shows meno (57.9). Finally after getting my thyroid levels in order, I had what I THINK was/is a period. Of course, I went to my doctor yesterday who said he "didn't think cancer was an issue", but still sending me for ultrasound, etc. to "be safe". I am shared to death. Anyone else have abnormal bleeding after 12 mos without & it NOT BE CANCER RELATED????

Hi all!! I am 7 years post meno and I still have cycles of insomnia, anxiety and itchy skin. For me, it seems to be related to when there is a lot of stress in my life, i.e., the holidays. The most debilitating of the symptoms has always been the insomnia. UGH. I just don't think there is a whole lot in the literature about being postal rolleyes.gif That's why I am ever grateful for Power-Surge and all the support and information I have been given. The reappearance of peri symptoms ever so often still shocks me. It's like, how can this be happening again?? I have learned though that the symtoms will abate once the stressors go. Right now, I am just coming out of the holiday thing so have had some bouts of insomnia and extreme anxiety.

Esprit...I had a period after a year without one. This happens a lot to women. Your biochemistry has most likely changed with the thyroid medication which in turn could bring on a period or it could just be a last gasp, which mine was. Best to check it out though.

I have read about it too, our ovaries do not just die off completely, they produce small amounts of hormones, and also adrenals. Just not enough to support pregnancy, so it is possible to have same symptoms for years after your last period sad.gif This is actually my worst fear: stress, extremem axniety alternative with depression, body aches for another 10 years, I am scared to think it will continue for the rest of my life. unsure.gif
