Hi my name is Benita I live in Johannesburg South Africa. I have to have a polypectomy and hysteroscopy on WEd 2 Feb and am petrified. Requested this under local anaesethic and my gynae can't understand why I would want this and said it is always done under general. Anyone out there had this before under local or general. I have been bleeding heavily for a month now?

Benita, hi! I've had this done under general, and everything was fine. Didn't feel anything, it was brief, and there was relatively little discomfort afterwards. Try not to worry; you'll be fine.
Hugs,
Meryl

Hi Meryl,
Thanks so much for your reply.I'm more nervous about the anaesethic than anything and I don't really know why. Probably because I haven't had one since I was 19 and also am a bit claustrophobic. Don't like that out of control feeling of being put to sleep etc. But am sure I will be okay. Did the procedure stop your bleeding? love, Benita.

Since that time, which I believe was a year ago October, I've gotten two periods (I'm 55), one this past week. I just had an ultrasound on Thursday, and am waiting to hear whether or not they want to do another D&C or not. I did have a polyp when she did the last one. I'm not sure whether that was causing any bleeding or not. I think I just have hormonal fluctuations.
Don't worry about the anesthetic! My friend had a mastectomy and was more afraid of the anesthetic than the surgery! Everything was fine. You'll be fine too! Enjoy the sleep!
By the way, let me extend a very warm welcome to you from Power Surge. You can come here anytime and "let it all hang out!"
Hugs,

Thanks Meryl I must say it is such a relief to be able to chat to people who are going through the same thing. This perimenopause has come as such a sudden shock I am 49 will be 50 on 15th March, and have always had a perfectly normal period cycle until my period on 20 Dec and haven't stopped bleeding since!!!
Why do you have to wait for scan results aren't they instant? Benita.

Benita, nothing is instant in this country! My doctor should get the results on Monday or Tuesday. I think I should have waited until I stopped bleeding. My lining will probably be thicker because I didn't wait. Oh, well, I'll deal with whatever!
My new doctor is from Johannesburg. I like him very much, and I love his accent!
Hugs,
M.

Hey Meryl,
That's amazing about your Dr. what is his name and how long has he been there?
If you are having the same problems all over again I wonder if they shouldn't just give me a hysterectomy I don't want to go through this all again!!!! x Benita.

Dr. Meskin is his name. He's my general practitioner. I don't know how long he's been here. At least a couple of years that I know of.
No, I don't want a hysterectomy unless they find something there! There can be too many complications!
