Has anyone ever had a period like this. I think I have been in peri for almost 3 years. My periods starting getting irregular about a year or so ago. Ususally late here and there. This month I get my period on time but it stops early. A few days later I get what amounts to a drizzle of blood, not even enough for a tampon or pad. This has been going on for two weeks. So basically, it looks like I am going to have a "sort of period" for the month. I wondered if anyone else has had this type of experience. My gut tells me this is just part of peri but I would love to know if anyone else has seen this type of thing.

Oncourse:
You betcha. Periods getting weirder all the time (if you can call them that). Unpredictable, spotty, just plain strange. I've decided to believe it's a good sign that the end is in sight. Up til three months ago I was regular as clockwork at 55. I'm ready for this to be over.
Hang in there, kiddo - go with the flow (haha).

OTTER! I'm 45, and you're 55...........I HAVE 10 MORE YEARS LEFT OF THIS MADNESS!!??
ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
I have had strange periods for about a year and a half now. Some months I'll have unpredictable spotting off and on all month, then some months short periods, long periods, heavy, or light....brown, or red.......yadda, yadda yadda..........but all of the tests (i.e. pap smears) are normal so I'm just assuming THIS is from the peri!
HANG IN THERE!
HUGS!

Kleeo - not to worry, m'dear - I'm apparently just a slow starter. No peri issues til a year ago. It had better NOT take 10 years or I'll be peri-ing in the retirement home. Just think - you'll be able to enjoy your 50's

while I am stuck in the equivalent of puberty. Arghhh! Raging hormones! This is the time of life when I'm supposed to know who I am and feel wise and self-assured. Instead, I'm someone else from day to day. Definitely cramps the dating thing - do I want the guy who nurtures my inner child or the one I can have adult conversations with? And durn it, I'm still having to worry about birth control!!

Oncourse,
Join the club. My period was every 28 days until my late 30's. I use to plan my vacations around them. Now? I just go with it. I never know. Sometimes I'm late, sometimes I'm early, sometimes my period is a no-show.
Hopefully you go for your annual paps, and other tests. Keep your doc in the loop.

Kleeo, NO--it's only for a year or two. That is also an eternity, but better than 10 years.
I actually looked forward to my first year without one. I nearly made it, then had a stupid period after TEN MONTHS WITHOUT ONE!!! Was I mad!!!
So after that, I started again, trying to get to that first year. And I made it. Then I got to the second year, and past that. Home free!!
You just have to stop comparing what you are experiencing now with the past. This is a whole new ballgame. Your periods are NORMAL now, but UNLIKE they used to be. Leanne, I was like you and planned things AROUND the darn thing. If my period was due, I avoided having a huge party at my house until a few days later, or something like this. I'd plan a trip for the weekend AFTER my period was due, if I could. I could blame all of my ailments on my period...that's why I'm crabby, or paranoid, or tired, or whatever. But now, if I'm crabby, well....no period to blame it on.

I sure hope its just another year or two - or I am packing my bags for the nearest cave. For the past year and a half - my cycles have been all over - mostly short though. Right now I spot here and there and bleed at least every three weeks. Right now I have been spotting for about 10 days!
Cycling with natural hormones has not helped at all. Tried all kinds of hormone combinations. My doc says apparently its just what my body wants to do. I really, really pray that this is a sign that this is about to be over!!!

I can really relate to all the weird periods lately. One thing that stands out for me lately (and if anyone else, please affirm) is how that pms feelings are lasting the entire month!!! By this I mean, I don't seem to suddenly feel like the world is all sunshine again. In the past you get some PMS, and literally hate everyone, then periods are over you feel like a sane person again. Now I just feel this malaise currently along with night sweats. Now, when I do have a great day, I am so elated, that I can't believe I'm having a great day. (They are so rare
I think in the past 3 months I have had maybe 3 great days. Honestly, its getting the better of me. So I have now began (stubbornly) to make some "ideal" changes. I'm using some natural remedies to see if this helps. I have always been a great sleeper, I could fall into bed and be sound asleep in seconds. Now its impossible to get to sleep. Then at about 3am the night sweats take over and by morning I can hardly get out of bed. Well I started taking Cal-Mag-zinc at night before bed, along with a glass of warm soymilk, and (I'm cheating) a .25 xanax, and it did help.
I'm heading on 47 this year, and I think finding this website was one of the best things that happened to me. It helps to know that I am not alone, and that other women, do care, thanks much!!!!

your not alone oncourse, since november 2004, i have been struggling with strange periods. Period regular in november, then another one 14 days later, none in december, then one 48 days later, then another one 14 days later. The only reason i am so calm about all of this is because i read all of the other posts from everyone else and realize that i am not the only one experiencing this type of nonsense with their cycles. cat-e

This is just so reassuring...knowing that others are having crazy periods, too.
I went for so many years having irregular periods every 2-3 months...I got PG (Felt wonderful during those 9 months), went on the pill after, but still had PMS sxs.
I went off the pill about a year ago and now have the ongoing period 2-6 weeks, heavy, light, spot...so unpredictable. (I'm 48)
Anyway, my main concern is the horrible migraine I got this week...it kept me home for 2 days. I used to have "hormonal headaches" but never so bad.
Any advice? I don't want this to be a monthly event!

Thankfully I've never had a migrane so I can't comment on that one. Strange periods are a different matter. Last month I skipped my first period (I'm 46). I had been sick and didn't even realize it had been 7 weeks since my last one. It was only after a trip to the doc about my palps & resiratory infection did the thought of perimeno seem like a reality. (the same day I found this board ~ thank God!). For the last 3 or 4 yrs I've been on an average 21 day cycle (+/-). Would really only have one week a month that I felt good. ugh! Had breakthru stuff for several months about 3 yrs ago but not since then. What I worry about now is that my last period was only 4 days rather than 7 which was exciting, but I still feel like I'm on it. ... aching lower back & crampy. Is this what I have to look forward to for the next 10 years? eee-gads! I too have planned around my cycles after I started feeling so bad with them. Right now I'm trying to plan a weekend away for our anniversary. Hubby asked if I had made any arrangements yet & I said ... with the ol' bod freakin' out, who knows when it'll be. This sux!

Wow...so nice to see that you are all in the same place i am.....it's so reassuring to know that this whole "ride" is common to others. the irregular period(i call pyramid) thayng is becomming very annoying, as this month has been my first "never ending pyramid" and i can so relate to the spotting, then period, then nothing and constant PMS symptoms....i now realize that is a positive thing, it means it is getting ready to go away....sure hope it's sooner rather than later. thanks for being here....today is my first day posting...so very glad to have found your site. Wow, LinneyG - WAY cool animated ride!!! I'm a big dragonfly fan, so it's especially impressive for me!
I, too, have entered the world of weird periods after 45 years of clockwork appearances. But no PMSish feelings yet - at least not unless you count the VERY strong urge to quit the job I've had for twenty years. Hmmmmm, maybe I AM feeling a little weird, now that you mention it.
Hang in there, everyone - I haven't heard of ANYONE who's still fighting this in their 70's (please, please, please don't tell me if you have).

Hello Otter, welcome Linney!!!!
I think things started changing for me a while back, but I didn't even recognize the suttle changes in me. I did notice that my periods were getting worse, and so was my moods and energy levels. My first big crusher, that made me take notice, was after my periods, when I would usually start to feel happier and get back into life, I was left feeling tired and blue, days and months went by, and I thought I must be dying of some awful desease!!!!
To be honest, I haven't done enough to help myself, I rarely ever exercise, and I drink coffee and soda's at work (mostly for energy) as I am a hair stylist and work on my feet all day(thats the tiring part). I know it should be water, water, water, but I only drink about 3 glasses of h20. At this age, I hear you have to use it or lose it!!!!
Great graphic's Linney!!!
Love to hear from you all, Jules
