[B]Interested in any feedback from anyone that has taken any alternative products that has actually helped with periomenopause symptoms. I am 44 and the list of symptoms are endless. I am a believer in natural products and take many vitamins.

Well,
For anxiety/depression there's Omega 3's (fish oil capsules). Also B-stress vitamins, and extra vitamin B-12 taken sublingually (under the tongue). I take all these.
For mild depression, St. John's Wort might be helpful, although it doesn't do much for severe depression.
Some people have talked about 5-HTP for depression, but I've never tried this.
Also light boxes used for "winter blues." Researchers are suggesting that these are helpful for all mood disorders. Look for those with focus on "blue spectrum" light. I've been using one for about a week, and believe it's helping!
For sleep disorders, calcium supplements with magnesium, before bed.
For general PMS stuff, Evening Primrose.
Sore breasts: Vitamin E, and avoid caffeine.
Digestive problems: Peppermint Oil Capsules (these are used to treat IBS in Europe). People with bladder trouble, beware - the oil may bother your bladder (it does mine). Also, drinking peppermint tea.
Nausea - ginger, ginger tea, chamomile.
That's all I can think of. There's an herb said to help with headaches, but I can't remember now what it is.
Anyone else?

Hi: I have tried many natural alternatives, vitamins, soy, herbs, and the really thing
that works is exercise 5 x week 45 minutes, Xanax 1-2 x a month, 1 glass a wine at night, a monthly Ayuvedic massage, Abayanga works on the lymp - warm oil, a bath every other night and the yearly exam by an ob and a md that can find nothing wrong. Also reading the posts here also help and remind me that I am not going crazy and just a phase, also not to mention books - but stay away from looking up symptoms on the internet - this is a no no and can lead to awful panic attacks. Good luck

Hello Cat E...
Joliejacq and Gunner have given you excellent advice....
Joliejacq - how much calcium w/ magnesium should be taken? 500 mg., 1000 mg?? Is that taken on a regular basis or only when you have sleeping problems? That's a wonderful alternative...I've learned something new today....thanks.
Well, lets see - some natural, alternative things... Me personally, when I feel nausaus and my stomache is upset - I usually grab some pepperment oil (can be found at natural stores), one little drop and... swollow it or put it in some water and swollow it... Or - Dearest recommended a slice of lemon, put in a cup of hot water and sip, like tea.... that does work.... Or - I believe it was Leanne who recommends Peppermint Tea
I've had mild depression and I have used St.John's Wort tea - one a day for me and after a week or two - I felt a positive difference. I used it for 2 months or so ...and then I weaned off of it (don't know if I had to do that but most anti-depressants have to be weaned off)... one cup of tea every other day and then every 3 days. Since then I feel pretty good - didn't need to go back to the "tea".
I meditate alot - that does help to calm me down. But if that doesn't work - and the anxiety/panic attacks are super duper bad - I'll talk a 1/2 Xanex - 25 mg...
Cat E, you'll discover and enjoy at other "threads" too ...Love your name - you must be a cat person

... I have 2 of them...
Blessings,
Stacy

Hi Stacy,
Re: the calcium, I take a 600 mg. Caltrate every night after supper. I feel it has helped! Someone else recommended calcium/magnesium on these boards about 6 months ago, which is when I started with it.
I take it every single night since I need the calcium, anyway.
BTW, thanks for the reminder about lemon in hot water for nausea - I'd forgotten that one!

Hey Cat,
I don't remember the amount of Evening Primrose I used to take, but it was the recommended dosage on the bottle. I bought mine through a food co-op.
I've used Revival Soy, and to be honest, didn't see much change in symptoms. But then MANY, MANY women on this site have been helped a lot by it. We're all different. It's certainly worth a try (and the shakes are delicious, so it's a nice way to help oneself!).
I'm only having about 2 periods a year now, but there was a time when my periods were all over the place, and it was necessary to carry protection every single day. Once I was at a conference for women's health, and started bleeding heavily out of the blue - I had just finished a period about 10 days before. It was embarrassing (and daunting!). It's always worth checking out irregular bleeding with your doctor, but it's also a symptom of good ol' peri-menopause.
Good luck!

2cents and a vent. lol
I tried taking Omega-3's I purchased from Trader Joe's. ugh! First day they gave me gas. Second day gave me gas and burps( which tasted like raw fish-EWww), and yesterday they made me sick.( both ends)
Guess my body doesn't like them or is it an allergic reaction?
ok, thanks! had to put this down somewhere!

My name is faith. I have some feedback on alternative medicine. Dr cherry is an internist /radiologist, who also studied and practice alternative medicine for 30 yrs.
He has a product for pre-menopausal support which is very effective.
It contains a special blend of soy and other herbal extracts that provides isoflavones. This is a plant chemical that women in asia used. In fact they do not respond to the term" hot flashes" because it doesn't exist. There are other products as well, such as basic nutrient life support which I highly recommend.
The website is www.drcherry.com Click on choose a product and browse through for whatever information you need.
Please give me some feedback.
