Hi Cat-e:
I have been experiencing light headedness, dizziness...no nausea....since August 2004. I feel slightly off balance (like walking on a bed.....someone gave that example on this board and I thought that really described my feelings...so I am going to use it).
I am going to be 48 years old in April....and I hope to be done with this by the time I am 53 years old.

Cat,
Welcome to Power-Surge! Yes, I have had all those symptoms. If you look through the message boards, you'll see that many people have posted about these. Some offer good advice, although sometimes the BEST thing is simply to know that others are going thru' the same thing, too!
Nice to have you in the Sisterhood!

You are not alone I'm also 44 years old and my perimenopause symptoms became quite intense in 2002. Prior to that I use to have mild symptoms (mild in comparison to what I'm dealing with now) that my ob/gyn attributed to pmdd. She was soooooooo wrong. I won't bore you with the details, but that dizzy/lightheaded/spacey feeling is definately a hormonal issue. I also did not know anyone, friends, co-workers, or family who felt this way until this year. My sister is now also going through perimenopause, she's a year younger, but she found relief by taking Effexor. I'm working with a woman who is postmenopausal who uses Vivelle hormone patch and compounded progesterone to help her with that spacey feeling. Whenever she forgets to change here patch that spacey feeling is the first menopause symptom to return.
Are you taking anything? Anyone found something that helps other than time?

I've gotten so dizzy before that I vomited. I hate that feeling. I make sure and sit on the edge of the bed at least 2 minutes before I put my feet on the floor in the a.m. I also have numbness, tingling, eye twitching, hand tremors. I'm 46.

Cat-e...........I have also felt lightheaded and like I am slightly off balance....my legs sometimes feel like they don't belong to me.....this used to really scare me and sometimes still does.....I had never felt like this before.....along with this came the anxiety and nerves ....like everyone else I am hoping and praying for this to go away soon.. I have seen many people on these boards with the same symptoms so don't worry about that........I hope you can feel better soon

I was just reading the responses on this board about dizzyness, lightheadedness, nausea, etc. and was wondering if this is something you ladies experience all the time. For the last several months I have had a feeling of off balance, not really dizzy, just like I am not on balance and it is all the time. I also have headaches as well. I wake up in the morning with it and go to bed with it. It is a dull ache behind my eyes, in my temples and across the top of my head. Do you all have this with the dizzy, lightheaded feeling. Oh, by the way, I have been perimenopausal for about a year but have just recently had this dizzy feeling and headache. Do you have any suggestions or solutions?

Hi Maeflower, and everyone.....
Being lightheaded and dizzyness comes with all of this peri/menopause change. If you have it everyday for several months, I think it could be vertigo??? I had a really bad time with dizzyness, feeling like the room was turning, feeling off, even when driving. It was awful. It lasted for me, about a total of 18months. I hope that yours goes away quicker. Things that really helped, was to rest often, and I took a pill called antivert, which is for motion sickness. It did help some. Doctors were of very little help, they checked my ears, but could never really give me an answer. I really believe with all my heart that these hormone imbalances within us, bring on new and exciting side effects, huh???
That for me was about 9 years ago, I still have slight dizzyness, it comes and goes, which is why I see it as part of peri.
Another thing that I notice, is that while I am at work, I keep up with my pace, although I get really more tired than ever before. But on my days off, I am like in slow motion. I used to get EVERYTHING done, now I barely get things done, and I dread doing it. My moods stay flat, it takes some motivation to get going these days.
Love to all, Jules

Hi all, I'm new to this site and new to these symptoms also. I'm 48 and still in shock, because noone (including my mom) ever told me about how horrible this is. Just reading that others have the same symptoms make me feel a little less like an alien has taken over my body. I, too am experiencing some dizziness. I never considered myself clumsy before, but I have fallen twice now in 2 weeks. The last fall, I fell on a bag of groceries I was carrying in and cracked a rib. OUCH! Now I dont have to worry about the hot flashes waking me, because I can't seem to get to sleep with this rib. Anyway, thanks to you all for sharing your experiences. Without you, I would feel quite alone and sure an alien life-form was trying a hostile take-over of my body. Thinking about getting the baseline hormone tests and trying the bio-iden. hormones. Hope you all get over your dizziness soon. Tess

Hi Ladies,
Like the rest of you I keep asking with each new sympton, "Is this part of perimeno?" I too have had all the dizziness, feeling of imbalance (though I have not fallen yet), spacey head, lightheadedness, headache, ringing in the ears, etc. You name it I have had it.
But here is a question for you more experienced meno ladies. Is it possible to feel like you are on your way out for months and then all of a sudden feel like you are actually human again? For the last 4 months I have literally thought I was on deaths doorstep and have made the rounds to all the doctors (ER, Ear docs, CT scans, family doc, eye doc) only to be told I am perfectly fine. Then finally my period comes, very late by the way, and now for the last week I have felt like my old life is back. Each morning I'm afraid to wake up and get out of bed for fear everything will come tumbling down again. Which I know will happen sooner or later but I was just wondering if any of the rest of you have had really good days, weeks, etc. before the next wave hits?
Here's waiting until the next wave hits.

Mae, I'm looking forward to the weeks of feeling "normal" again. I've had moments and days when the spacey, lightheaded, unreal feeling wasn't as intense, but for a week. It's my understanding from communicating with women who are postmenopausal that as things begin to settle down with my hormones and this monthly bleeding nonsense is a thing of the past I'll begin to have way more good days than not so good. I hold fast to this image and hope that everyday will be that day.
Sit back enjoy, rejoice, jump up and down and hold fast to this new rebirth

yes, it is totally normal to have good days, bad days, good weeks, bad weeks. I have had 4 months of constant perio. symptoms - just about daily. However, this past month has been good and surprise I even got my period on the 28th day, something that has not happened since last october. I started taking thesoy revival product about 4 weeks ago and had a really good month - I am not sure if this is just a coincidince or if the product really works ! Remember your not alone, everyone in the forum is so supportive.

The dizzy/room spinning feeling was one of my first symptoms of peri. about 1 year ago. Along with it came the heavy-non stop periods. Now I am experiencing alot of muscle aches and pains (feet, knees, elbows) I am 42 and have been feeling pretty crappy for about 1-1/2 years now. I had a hysterectomy 4 months ago for a prolapsed uterus, so I won't know for sure when I am in true menopause. Is it possible to have all these symptoms and not have hot flashes? Why do some of us get such weird symptoms and others do not?

Greetings to all:
I am not the best with or on a computer, bear with me. I Have in the recent few weeks really have dealt with some ( to me) bizzare events in a physical/ emotional manner. In reading, I have seen that I may be entering or into menopause. Now for the questions. 1 I have a sezuire disorder and diabetic. I take no meds for either condition. However I do take herbal suppliments. Normally in tincture or tea form. My sezuire activity is going through the roof, it has been night only occasional focals during the day, now day and night, combined with sugar spikes for no reason. ( I use diet control) This is with the sleeplessness, occasional dizziness, fatigue, confusion, lack of thought control, ( or the roller-coaster of thoughts) . I won't even go to the more personal levels of distress. What can be done?Iit's not just menopause- but two other life long disabilities. Can any one refer me to a specialist or consultant, that deals more with herbs and homopathic remedies? I am in a three way tractor pull. If one doesn't "get" me ther others will. I am continuing to study what and where I can.
If any one can help *** send me a PM (private message)
Thanks. D

Hi Ladies,
Hope someone can respond to this. Since I have entered this peri stuff I have felt pretty bad and have had most of the 35 symptoms Dearest mentions. But I was wondering do you all feel pretty bad even when the periods do come? My symptoms don't seem to let up even when the period comes. It used to be ( in the days before peri) that as soon as the period would start I would feel better. You know the headache would go away, the bloating and sore breasts would ease. But lately, even when I have a period I still feel terrible - spacey, dizzy, achy, headache, muscle twitches, jittery, etc. It doesn't seem to let up. Is this something others of you have experienced? I feel like there is no relief at times.
Needing some encouragment,
Maeflower

Maeflower, like yourself before perimenopause my symptoms would subside when my period started; then I began having symptoms before, during and after my period. Now, like so many women I deal with that spacey, dizzy feeling 24/7 to different degree. Thank God I don't have the internal jitters anymore, they went away when I started taking Wellbutrin and once I realized that what I was experiencing was somewhat "normal" for women dealing with perimenopause. I know that many women breeze through this transition period and only have an occasional hot flash, but I've come to the conclusion that those women are the exception and we are the majority. I've been dealing with this dreadful peri stuff since 2002 and I can say that I'm beginning to see where I'm nearing the end. I pray that I will have a peaceful, enlightening, and joyous postmenopause after the ordeal of perimenopause. Hopefully, this post bought you some comfort.
