Full Version: Postmenopausal Bleeding

I've done a bit of research on the 'net, and the vast majority of the sites say that any postmenopausal bleeding is abnormal and should be a cause for concern.

I understand the danger of self-diagnosing, but my question involves the different types of bleeding.

What most sites fail to address is whether different problems (fibroids, hyperplasia, atrophy etc.) present differently.

Does anyone know? I would think there'd be a difference in (for example) one instance of spotting vs. repeated episodes of bleeding but maybe not.

Thanks for your input.

Lydia, in my experience it all manifests the same way. I got one period a year for years. As I wrote in another post, I had one biopsy, several ultrasounds and a D&C. I do have a fibroid and my uterine lining was thick, hence the D&C. Everything was fine.

I have learned to stop reading the medical information on the internet. It just drives me nuts and I think I have every disease I read about. Just let your doctor handle it and don't worry. It's probably just your hormones.

Hugs,

Thanks, Meryl.

Being in the Land of Kaiser I'm seeing a gyn on Thurs. I've never seen before. I asked if they had any older women -- you know, someone who at least has experienced peri -- but no such luck. blink.gif

Actually, since my episode was accompanied by burning, itching and general irritation and the bleeding was very slight, I'm not terribly worried. But I also have a fibroid and didn't know if there was some way to tell if it was acting up.

I guess I will try to get both a vag ultrasound and an abdominal for the 'broid.

I know what you mean about medical info on the 'net. I vow never to look again, but somehow I always do.

Thanks again for your reply.

Hugs back
Lydia
