Hi. I have a UTI. Had white blood cells in my urine and bacteria. I don't know if they cultured it or not, but they put me on Macrobid, and it did nothing. Went back for another test, and I still have it. Now I'm on Cipro. Has anyone else ever had a stubborn urinary infection? Of course, I always think the worst!Hugs,Meryl

Hi Meryl,

It's a little while since you've posted - are you doing any better?

I've had stubborn infections, and UTI's are HORRIBLE. The most painful thing I've ever experienced. I have a chronic bladder condition now - have to be careful with acidic foods, but nothing is as bad as a UTI.

Hope you're doing better. Cipro really knocks my infections for a loop - hope it's worked for you.

Yeah, I've had to try a couple of antibiotics for a UTI. I usually take 4 cranberry
tabs a day, which keeps them at bay. Antibiotic resistance is scary and developed
mainly from doctors prescribing them for viral infections for years. I believe this practice is changing. Also, people would not finish the course of antibiotics, which contributed to resistant strains of bacteria. We literally have one antibiotic left in the arsenal when it comes to resistant staph infections. Also, pharmaceutical companies aren't interested in developing new antibiotics, because there isn't much profit in it.

Regarding a UTI. Don't worry!

UTIs, what fun! I had my first one 5 or so years ago...the irony being that one of theside effectsof antibiotics may be both a UTI and a vaginal infection(usually bacterial) because the meds kill off the good flora and fauna . Taking something like acidolpholous or eating a live culture yogurt along with or immediately following any treatment of antibiotics helps keep all of our friendly beasties growing so that they can continue warding off the stuff we do not need...

Yup, Ilaff is right! Whenever you do antibiotic therapy, eat a live culture yogurt.
You don't need a UTI and a yeast infection. I've also had bleeding with a UTI.
The first time it scared the bejesus out of me. My sister called frightened with
the same symptom, thinking bladder cancer. Since she had a friend who had
bladder cancer and bleeding when urinating, she freaked. I told her about my
experience and it was a UTI! Oh, the joys of being a woman!

Thanks everyone for responding. I was in Florida at my sister's, so I wasn't accessing the boards.

This UTI thing has been complicated. I called the doctor's office after the second urine sample and they informed me the lab reported there was no infection even though they told me initially there was. I still feel like I have to pee all the time, so they took me off the BP med Dyazide (a diuretic). They didn't bother to inform me of this so I took the whole course of Cipro. I'm trying not to think about it (peeing all of the time), as I am certainly capable of making myself believe I have a problem and concentrating on it exclusively.

It helped to be in Florida. It just feels so healthy down there with the sun, warmth, flowers, etc. I hated to come back to dreary New Jersey. Woke up shaking again. Why do we do this to ourselves?

Meryl,

If you continue to have problems, please consider sending me a U2U.

I have a condition related to non-bacterial bladder issues. I'm not going to say anything more about it, as you probably don't have it, and I don't want to give you something to mull over!

But should you be very uncomfortable, please contact me. There are some helpful approaches.

You might want to actually lay off the cran tablets or cran juice for awhile, if you're on them. Ironically, the acidity can really bother your bladder.

Hope this all clears by itself quickly.

Yeah, I've had to try a brace of antibiotics for a UTI. I usually yield 4 cranberry

tabs a day, which keeps them at bay. Antibacterial attrition is alarming and developed

mainly from doctors prescribing them for viral infections for years. I accept this convenience is changing. Also, humans would not accomplishment the advance of antibiotics, which contributed to aggressive strains of bacteria. We actually accept one antibacterial larboard in the armory if it comes to aggressive staph infections. Also, biologic companies aren't absorbed in developing new antibiotics, because there isn't abundant accumulation in it.

Search this site for D-Mannose.

...and yahoo or google search this product. It is one of the few natural things that I have found that works.

It is a natural type sugar that the e-coli jumps on. It is like cranberry, but much more effective.

The UT becomes so slippery that any bacteria cannot reattach itself to the UT walls, so you simply pee it out. There is no die-off. No side effects. It works within 3 days. Usually it starts working the first day.

Our urologist started using this with some of his patients, instead of daily anti-biotics.
