Hello, there!
This is the first time that I have posted here, but I do take part in live chats and visit this site often.
I had a complete hyst (TAH/BSO) over 5 years ago. For most of the time since then, I have been working with Pete at Bellevue Pharmacy (and College Pharmacy prior to that) and he has compounded my hormones.
Since there have been no studies on the long-term effects of taking bio-identical hormones, I decided that 5 years was enough, and since I'm now 45, it's time for me to go through menopause.
I've been off them now for about a month. I'm having a lot of hot flashes and night sweats. Also, skin dryness, but that could also be due to the winter weather, as it happened before also.
Do certain foods cause more hot flashes and night sweats? There seems to be no rhyme or reason to them. Some days I have maybe one or two, and other days....WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Are there other things that may cause them?
What book(s) do you recommend that I read on this?
Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks,
El

Hi ElegantEl,
I'm two years postmeno now (26 months since I had a period). I do not use any hormones but I do eat a Revival Soy bar every day without fail. I used to have such bad hot flashes that my clothes were damp all day long and I felt miserable. The hot flashes occurred every hour, sometimes more, and I don't even know what set them off since they happened all the time. They made me feel irritable and sometimes nauseated. On occasion I had what I called a "torpedo flash," which was so strong I needed to sit down if I wasn't already, and I'd have waves of dizziness. I'm 53 now, and these all-day flashes happened when I was 51. Unfortunately, they lasted about a year. Then they started to subside and now they are only feelings of warmth. I do not sweat any more. I also have the night warmth, but again, they are just feelings of warmth and they go away in a few minutes.
All kinds of triggers can set off the flashes. There is information in the PS Library about what sets them off. Hot coffee, alcohol, smoking, and spicy food, to name a few.
I'd always get flashes when I was stressed about something. I still get them when I get upset.

Hi I'm Bonnie and I too have been taken off my meds. I was on the Gel and the Progesteron (bad spelling)
I'm 54 and still have all my body parts. LOL
However, I have had no children.
I am getting the hot flashes and nite sweats so bad in the last month, it is driving me nuts. I wondered if certain times of year trigger this
