Not sure I have this in the appropriate category, but anyway...
The past two months or so I have been experiencing terrible dryness in my nasal passages. I realize it may be TMI but it just feels like I have cement in my nose :x and have tried all kinds of sprays and even bought a small humidifier that I keep near my bed at night..I am 56 and am in menopause.. thought I had experineced every delightful sympton and now this? I suspect it is due to hormonal levels and not to the heating or air in my home b/c it started before we even put the heat on for the season.. Anybody out there have this? Any suggestions??

Hi Fran, my poor nostrils suffer HORRIBLY this time of the year. And this particular year seems to be the worst. I have blamed it recently on living right on the ocean - thinking maybe it's the salty air. ???? I use a straight saline spray CONSTANTLY to try and alleviate some of the dryness, and a cool mist humidifier at night. But nothing really seems to help. I do take tylenol sinus/allergy quite often this time of the year for sinus & allery problems, so that could be drying me out more also. It is annoying. BIG time. If you find any better solutions, let me know!

I have no pity for you Kleeo.. My dream is to live on the ocean in Maine..

(just joking about the no pity part).. I'll let you know if I find anything that works.. Last night I tried eucalyptus essential oil and mixed it with a bit of oil and dabbed it all over and under my nose.. It didnt do anything!! (Except make dh question my sanity!!....lol)

I don't pity me either, Fran, so don't feel bad! lol! This was always my dream to live here also, and as of 3 years ago the dream came true! BUT the salty air IS hard on the skin and mucus membranes I swear!
Tell your d/h that my sanity must be gone also, because every night lately I've been putting vicks rub under each nostril, using saline spray first, of course, then cranking up the humidifier. Still, wake up with dry itchy eyes, dry (and stuffy too!) nose and my skin feels like sand paper. AND itches like crazy! Sometime I SWEAR it's a good thing I'm single because I don't think ANY man would want to sleep with me right now! lol!
Hang in there. Maybe we can get a workable combination figured out someday!
HUGS!

I came across this site while searching for help with my dry eyes. I registered so that I could reply to Fran and you other ladies who are suffering from dry nasal membranes. I too have extremely dry membranes in my nose. I don't know why. I used vaseline for some time, but I came to a point where the septum of my nose hurt and felt paper thin, dry, dry, dry! I can't remember how I came upon it, but about 3 years ago I discovered emu oil. I started putting a drop of emu oil inside my nose to coat the membranes. I use it before I go to bed and sometimes in the morning during the winter. It is tremendous! My nose feels so much better. It truly has worked for me. On my little bottle it says that "emu oil is a powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent. Emu oil's fatty acids mirror our fatty acids giving it the unique ability to pass through the skin and bring relief." I'll have to say that it does say apply topically and do not take internally. I decided for me that my nasal membranes were topical. I told my doctor about it and he was fine about it. I haven't had any side effects, only relief. One of the pharmacists told me that the doctors at our major hospital use emu oil on their burn patients. I don't know if they would recommend it for noses or not. But, I'm going to keep using it. I hope that this helps all of you ladies.
