:?: I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I'm also in my fifth year of menapause. Fun, huh? I'm having a symptom that does not seem to be caused by hypothyroidism and I'm hoping someone here has had this related to menapause. From time to time, I have a sort of numb feeling in the left side of my face and my tongue feels thick. I know that a thick tongue can be caused by hypothyroidism. My doctor after running many test can not seem to find an answer to the numb feeling in my face. By the way, I do have or have had about twenty seven symptoms of menapause, but have improved a lot over the past year. Still not home free but better. Thanks for any info.

Casino~~I've been having a burning tongue, and also burning roof of mouth, it's just another one of the "many" meno symptoms. I bet the thick tongue you are experiencing is meno related too..if you've had 27 symptoms then its a pretty good chance that's just another. I remember in my early teen years havinga sensation of a thick tongue, I realize now it was probably hormonal (what isn't!!!) I just turned 51 and it seems about 30 of the symptoms have hit me hard. I've had some minor symptoms over the last 5 years, but they are at their worst now. I'm glad your doing a little better, thats good to hear, it proves it just takes time and patience to get through this meno mess!!

Hi Casino, I have the numb feeling in my face off and on, and have had it for about 3 years. I always thought it was from sinus troubles, but maybe it is from meno! I've heard several other women complain about it. I also get the thick tongue and burning tongue/mouth sensation quite often. I was checked for thyroid troubles and the tests came back negative, so that TOO must be caused by good ole meno! Don't feel alone in this madness. There's lots of us gals right here beside you!
HUGS!

Finola and Kleeo, Thank both of you so very much for your response. It is always comforting to know there is someone else experiencing the same things that you are going through.
This numb feeling in my face is almost a daily thing and it is very disturbing. I've been tested for TIA's and everything came back normal and I do have an appointment with a endo. for Jan. 12th. Maybe I will get some answers concerning the Hypothyroidism then. As I said earlier this numb feeling does not seem to be thyroid related but then I do know that the thyroid gland can affect any part of your body. I also have severe sinus problems but did not know that the numbness could be caused from that. I really want to just chalk this up as menapause and then I can live with that. Anyway, thanks for listening and for being there.
