Hello, everyone. Thanks for letting me join your community.
I've never done much research on menapause before, figureing I'd be working into it gradually, and that nothing would really take me by surprise. I'm 47, been having irregular periods for the last few years.
Yesterday, however, I was talking on the phone and standing next to a small oil filled radiator. And all of a sudden it was las if someone was sticking me in an oven. I had a sensation of prickly skin but absolutely NO sweating at all, even though I was so hot I felt compelled to get out of the house to cool (45ºF here now).
I actually thought I was having some kind of stroke and ended up taking my blood pressure and found it normal, but my heart rate was fast.
Although it reached peak intensity within minutes, it took over an hour for the feeling to gradually subside and disappear.
So, was this a hot flash? I've always read about sweating involved with them, but I was dry as a bone all during the time it was happening. At this point I don't think I'd question whether it was or not, except for the fact that I didn't sweat at all.
Thanks for listening!

Hi Gracie, I don't have sweating with my flashes. Or I guess I should say, I RARELY have sweating with my flashes. I just get a real hot feeling that starts from my chest and goes up my neck and to my face. Usually my neck & face turn beet red. I'm not sure if sweating is a 'sure sign' of a hot flash or not, but if that's the case, I'm the odd one out! lol!!

Kleeo, I'm sure you won't be shocked by this -- I don't sweat either when I have a hot flash!

I feel so much better knowing that they can happen that way.

The older women in my family all passed on before I was 30, so I haven't had anyone I can ask about this. Thanks so much to both of you for answering.

You can add me to the group!
My hot flashes have never been accompanied by sweating.
However, I have had night sweats & my night have never been accompanied by hot flashes.
I have not experienced either since I started the Vivelle-Dot HRT on March 15th.
I had very few hot flashes - but had lots of night sweats.

Hi, I'm 45 years old and I just experienced my first "DRY" hot flash, or perimenopausal flash of any kind just the other day. I have read that people usually sweat. Mine started in my chest and spread up through my arms and neck and into my scalp. Another wave appeared to head South through my buttocks and down my thighs ending at my knees. There was no sweat. Just a terrible burning heat, and all my skin became ultra sensative to the touch of fabric or air movement. I ran for the shower and took a luke warm shower, and the heat and pain were replaced with itching. Every inch of my body from the top of my scalp down to my ankles were itching. I wanted to scratch so hard that I could well have broken skin. In fact I believe that I did because when I woke up from a nap there was blood on my bed sheets. The Itching frightened me, thinking that it may have been an alergic reaction, so I took some Benadryl to stop the itching and to relax me.
Is this at all similar in terms of the PAIN and ITCHING to any one else's Flashes? I have to admit it scared the living daylights out of me!

I have been having the hot feeling in my head and body almost constantly. It's awful. I haven't had the itching yet, but I have had just about every other symptom. I have been miserable and feeling like I'm loosing my mind for a couple months now. I am supposed to be having a hysterectomy soon. All my hot flashes feeling have been without any sweat. Sometimes I think if I would just sweat that it would feel better. I did wake up a couple times recently wet at night, but not drenched like after I had my daughter.
