 Not sure what is happening, no period for two months but no other symptoms of pregnancy, I will be 47 on Thursday, not sure what is going on, we use birth control, so hopefully nothing happened to make it fail!! :? Should I take a pregnancy test or a perimenopause test??

Usually, in perimenopause, you skip periods, they get closer together or further apart. In the The 34 Signs of Menopause (click to access the whole list), Dearest has listed number 6 as: Irregular periods: shorter, lighter or heavier periods, flooding, & phantom periods. Unfortunately, periods can go absolutely crazy during perimenopause. Generally speaking, you should continue to use birth control for a whole year after you reach full menopause (1 year with no periods at all). Generally, how your body is acting is a better test of perimenopause than blood tests are. If it sets your mind at ease, I'd do a pregnancy test, but it's probably just the start of perimenopause. Best of luck to you!

This happened to me too after I had two periods a month for a few months. Sometimes I think that your body is trying to catch up if it is off kilter.I got tired of it though never knowing when I was getting it and really tired of it coming twice a month so I went on the pill and now I get it right on schedule and it is nice. Good luck!

Hehe, me too! For the first time in my life, NO period last month! And I'm well into the next month with no period in sight. Fingers crossed it stays away!

My last period was Sept 18th. I keep getting 'phantom' symptoms though....lower backache, cramps, bloating, etc. I'm not on HRT or BC pills. Hubby had vasectomy 10 years ago..so I know I'm not pregnant. I turned 49 last month. No other symptoms except for an occassional hot flash/flush.

Skipped periods, phantom periods, heavier periods, lighter periods, spotting, a period every 3 months, 2 periods a month -- this is all very common during perimenopause -- the time when your body is preparing to stop menstruating entirely. However, it can take some time until you get there -- and you're there once you have no period for 12 consecutive months -- then you're considered "menopausal." A caution though -- they say even though you may have stopped menstruating for 12 consecutive months, to be on the safe side, you should still use some form of birth control for a year after your periods cease. There's an excellent article in the Educate Your Body Library that will tell you more about the entire process -- An Introduction to Menopause: Signs, Symptoms and Treatments Dearest

It was all of the above for me. I've gone 7 months now without a period but the same thing happened last year-eight months then I started my period the day after Christmas (Boxing Day) not exactly the present I was looking for!

GeeeeeZ!!!!!! I read the 34 signs of menopause. I thought this site was supposed to encourage you not scare the pants off of you. God it sounds like menopauseal women just literally fall apart and wither up and die. I have had erratic periods for several years now. I just turned 50 and now am going on my third month without one. The hot flashes, night sweats, sleeplessness and fatigue took over last month but now have subsided these past two weeks. I actually feel better. I guess you all will say it is far from over, I am not getting off that easily right ? My question is this. Do some of these symptoms that everyone speaks of, eventually go away ? Are they a result of the hormone imbalances which I assume even out eventually. Or are they a result of the lack of estrogen which I realize will be my new permanent condition. So far I have no vaginal dryness, at least not to the degree of sexual discomfort. Nor do I have any mood swings or depression. I was more emotionally imbalanced in my mid forties than I am now. I attributed that to some life changes I experienced then but now I am thinking though I was still getting my period pretty regularly maybe that was my perimenopausal emotional symptoms. Who knows but it is past me now and I hope I cannot expect a return of that condition. I know this is wishful thinking but I am hoping my period does not come back and I am getting off easy. Anyone have any thoughts ? Private messages are welcome !! Janet Lynn
