Well, my husband just found out yesterday that the company he works for was sold to a bigger company with offices only in areas where we do not live nor want too...He had worked for a company for 26 years where he supervised 100 or so people and many jobs at once. That folded when the sons took over( it was an 86 y/o company) He laid tile and did some programming for two years and then pow of the blue he got an offer to work for his current company where he had written their first code over 2 decades ago... Oddly enough an HR guy called and wants me to come in for an interview
(this also happened yesterday) Do I want to work...MMMm..NO! Did I apply? NO!!will I have too...yes..I have other plans...sigh..I don't wanna..wah Wah WAH..hear that it's the wahmulance...

I'm curious Ilaff - what are you going to do?
I've been sold 3 times, laid off 3 times and fired once. All this in a 20+ year sales career. For me, every time I was sold it was hideous. This last time was the absolute worst. The company who bought us is one of the largest and most well respected companies in the world too. (LIE!)
Will your husband get to keep his same job if he moves? Is the move to somewhere good? Can he get a good severance package (take the money honey!!!!)
What about you? Did it feel good to be wanted for a cool job?

I was kidnapped and taken to interview land where I have no computer. The job was...Mmmm...like a pyramid scheme for stockbrokers/ I do not know what(obviously) I was there twice before I found out that it is a division of Citigroup that works by you finding people to do a FNA( financial needs analysis) for and then you "help" them get out of debt or sell them insurance or help them refinance their home to get out of debt ...no benefits and only commission on what you and the people you find to work for you make...I think not! Glad I drove 600 miles to go there twice before anyone would tell me anything it was called Primerica. If you have not heard of them my guess is that you will(sadly for you) very annoying!
Back to my husband; he is thinking he will have a job for at least 6 months( I have no idea how he arrived at that!) he got a huge Xmas bonus that he had no idea he was getting..be afarid; be very afraid! sigh...I will do whatever I have to do but sadly I fear I will be somewhere working for benefits because the only people more invisible than retirement age people are teenagers when job hunting. My 4 years plus of college don't mean a thing in today's market...trust me I know! Here comes the wahbulance again!
Thnks for listening It does matter and help!

When one door closes another one opens!
My career changed at 44 years old to something entirely different and something I never would have thought I would be capable of doing.

I had literally been beaten down by my last employer to believe that I was never reliable. They took the main part of my job away from me and gave me the stuff we started new people on which made me lose confidence.
I had to see a community psychiatric nurse and take diazepam to get back on track. Now I work from home I never have to take days off if i feel unwell. I can work round it.
My Mum also said things happen for a reason

I was hired by a guy to come in and clean up his data base and add new items(end use data base administartor) When it was time for my review and raise(3 months as we agreed upon) he told me that he was amazed I got everything done so fast.
Then he said,
" But I could not Imagine looking at someone as old as you in 10 years!"
Charming, eh? Only one person that was there when I worked there is still there(big surprise) and he is sueing three former employess for starting a business similar to his...after he fired them rather than give them raises. His business partner nearly fainted
(he is gone now too) and begged me not to sue them...It is not too late I suppose; but it would hardly be good for my blood pressure.
BTW: His new wife is three years my junior and they have adopted what he called:"three beaner kids from whopland to shut her up."
Oh, yes! It is her money and the company is in her name....lucky woman. There is a place in hell for people like him and I am quite sure it is never too full!
