Just a update. Went to my doctor today and he did take blood to check my FSH level and then I went for the ultrasound. (pelvic and internal ) I have 3 cysts on my left ovary. I had a ultrasound done 3/01/03 and there were no cysts then so it was a shock that I now have 3 within a year. I will know more on Monday when I call him for my blood work and to see what he says about the ultrasound! Could cysts stop your period? As you all can see I am still in denial about menopause!! If anyone knows anything about cysts stopping your period or if they could actually do that then let me know please! Thanks

Hi Kami, You might want to ask the dr about PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). There are many reasons for cysts, but since you are looking for all the possibilities I thought I would suggest you ask about PCOS. There are some posts about it under the thread on the message boards called 'fibroids, cysts, etc.' Another question that can be answered from the ultrasounds is the thickness of your endometrial lining. As one approaches and goes into menopause the lining becomes thinner usually. Of course, there are exceptions to this. Good luck! ~Helen

Hi Kami, Did they specify what type of cysts? Mine were endometrosis on my right ovary. Are the cysts painful at all or during ovulation? I don't know if cysts stop periods - while I had these cysts, I was heavily bleeding with periods twice per month. My doctor recommended the depo-provera shot to stop the endometral lining from growing, thus stopping my periods and ceasing the growth of the endometrosis. After 2 years it has worked. Had another sonogram last week to check the endometrosis. Went to the doctor this week and I have no cysts, the endometrial lining is very thin, the ovaries and my uterus have shrunk. He now believes I am in the beginning stages of menopause !! Good luck to you. Tina wink.gifwink.gif

Thanks for your reply. I don't know what kind of cysts these are yet, I will call him for the blood work and talk about these cysts and go from there. I have heard that blood work really isn't that accurate so I just hope I get some answers as to why I haven't had a period since Jan! I just thought I would have gotten some symptoms of menopause and I haven't. I thought you would start missing some periods then menopause hits but here I am never missed never had any problems . How do they know what kind of cysts they are unless they go in and take them out? I am glad your's are gone and maybe I will get lucky and everything will be fine! Thanks again for the reply, this board has been so helpful these past few weeks. I will post on Monday if I find anything out from the doctor! Thanks again
