I am new to the board and have only posted once but I have a question and if anyone can help I would be very grateful! Can you just stop having your period and that is it? I haven't had one since Jan 18th and am wondering if it will ever come again! My doctor has told me twice I am too young to be going through menopause (I am 36) but I have never missed a period!Once again I have another appt on April 2nd and I have to find out what is going on. If anyone has any info please reply!! Thanks
Mattia
Hi Kami, Your question is hard to answer for there could be several contributing factors for cessation of your period. For instance, my boss who is very very thin was sick over the Christmas season, lost 10 pounds and has not had a period since. She is 39 years old. She has an upcoming appointment for thyroid testing. Women who are athletic, i.e. runners sometimes have their periods stop and I believe it is due to low body fat, I think. Could it be you might be pregnant? Let us know what the doctor says next week. Welcome - this is a wonderful site to find answers and to meet other women you can relate to. It has been a blessing I found this site. Enjoy ... Tina wink.gifwink.gif

Thanks for the reply, I am in no way under weight lol !! I am not exercising AT ALL !! I am so worried that this is menopause because in Dec we just started trying to get pregnant and then this happened! I am not pregnant because I actually thought that is what was happening and was so happy then the blood test came back negative! Now I have no idea! Everyone I have talked to said that they have never heard of your period just ending like that!! I have had no menopause symptoms at all which is what is confusing to me! I will let you know what happens when I get back on Friday! I am not too sure what he is going to do this time but somthing has to be done! I am so bloated I feel like I am going to explode! Thanks again for the reply!!

Kami, How frustrating that must be for you. Sometimes we must wonder if our bodies have a mind of their own and what's it going to do next. Try not to worry, as long as you're seeing a doctor then you are on the right path. Best of luck to you on Friday. Post and let us know what is going on. Tina ;;)

I have once again another question!! Do I ask for blood work to see what my hormone level is? This is all so new to me , I have never missed a period before and I just don't want him to blow me off, ya know what I mean! What do they actually do for this? Thanks for the support because all my friends have no idea about this since they are all my age! Also to top it off my boss who is a really good friend just told me she is pregnant and she is 43 so ofcourse I am thrilled for her and I truly am because they have been trying for a year but needless to say I came home crying because of all this!! Just a mess lately!! Thanks again and if you have any suggestions for Friday please let me know! Take care and thanks again!

I've read menses can just cease in meno!! However, at 36 you are young, but could conceivably be in peri. One year without periods and you are officially menopausal. I'd see a reproductive endocrinologist, pronto, if I wanted a baby. Blood work isn't accurate during peri, but it can't hurt to check. Good luck!!!
