Hi everyone, I am having a new symptom and it's weird. When I go to bed at night, after I get all covered up and comfortable, I get cold and begin to shiver. This has been happening for about 3-4 nights straight. Strange because I am wearing a full back brace to bed with a tank top underneath and usually I am sweaty and hot. On top of that, when I get up in the morning, after I take off the brace, I am hot, flushed and just burning up for about half hour to 45 minutes. My hot flashes come and go in waves and I've just ended a wave about 2 weeks ago. Help !! Is this yet another symptom of peri-menopause?? Thanks, Tina ohmy.gif:o

I shiver like that quite often.....then i cover up with a ton of blankets....then i end up having a hot flash. When i shiver,it's the same way i get when i have the flu real bad or like when i have a fever,is that how yours are? I'm assuming this is just another symptom since i just started doing this recently.
rmg
Ladies, I can certainly relate! Last night I put on another blanket...my husband remarked that I felt so cold...which is unusual lately:) Today, same thing. I found my red blankie and wrapped the thing around me...one hour later, I had to throw it off...go figure!tongue.gif

Jadebear & RMG: Your symptoms are exactly the same. The shivering is one of the bad symptoms that really scared me. I used to sleep naked (loved that), and would just wear a tank top under the back brace but now wear full sweats. I end up waking up with no comforter now but not sweaty. I wonder what's coming next wink.gifwink.gif Tina

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Really glad to see this post, as I am experiencing the same thing. It isn't a problem during the day, but at night I have bouts of really intense shivering and internal shaking, when I just can't seem to get warm. Last night was particularly bad. I came off HRT just over a month ago, and my symptoms are returning with a vengeance. Very glad to have found this forum.

I've had this a few times too, including lately. For me it is quite unpleasant. I have a hot water bottle stored under a blanket and use it to warm myself when this happens. One time I measured my temperature and found that my body temperature was cold. I also keep food by my bed and eat during the night.

Just all of a sudden, my shivering to death once I go to bed had stopped. I hope I did not jink myself by saying this. I suspect it's another problem that will come and go as it pleases !! Tina wink.gifwink.gif

I've noticed the shivering in the morning, after a round of night sweats. I've also had teeth chattering anxiety through this transition. Thankfully the teeth chattering doesn't escalate into panic, as it use to. It is weird, I'm hot, I'm cold, I'm cold, I'm hot. I still sleep naked, but keep a robe nearby to wrap myself in when I feel cold. This meno crap is a doozie, that's for certain!!!!

I've had lots of shivering lately too - as a matter of fact, not too long ago, my husband and I were out for dinner and as soon as we stepped outside to get into the car, I started shivering (teeth chattering) like crazy - He said I couldn't be cold that fast. But I couldn't help it - I feel like my body can't adjust properly - like the thermostat is wacky. I've noticed this for about 2 years - never really thought it was tied into hormones - but I'm figuring out everything is!

It's amazing how our hormones can affect so many things in our bodies. Who would have thought that shivering would be one of them. My body thermastat now has a mind of it's own now and I'm finding myself getting so hot at work, sweating alot, then feeling like I stink the rest of the day. In the morning, I get up and begin sweating and I turn red in face and chest area. Cold showers are nice in the morning & turning down the thermostat to 69 degrees really helps. Before coming to Power Surge, I just thought all these problems were that my body was submitting to some disease or cancer. It can truly make you fear for the worst and can consume you. Then the fear and anxiety sets it - oh boy !! Tina wink.gifwink.gif

shivering...cold sweats, hot flashes, etc. get a bit of both some days - it's kinda like having the flu lol. I find wearing silk helps alot as it is warm when wet and cool when hot, and dries out fast. Oh what a morning...smile.gif

Thank God for this forum. I have not posted in a very long time because I was feeling so great and thought I had moved on from all of my meno junk. Well, last night I woke in the middle of the night shaking like a leaf. It was so scarry, I thought I was having a siezure or something. DH warmed me up and the shaking calmed down a bit, but I did not sleep well the rest of the night. Has anyone else had this sudden awakening?

Hello kathy. I haven't had the shaking like you discribed , but my sisters has. off and on for the past 2-3- years, what is the dh you mentioned? I am always looking for something that might help her!! I am worried for her she is having just one bad experience after another...and doctors can only say its stress. I think that if she could sleep that would help her the most!! thanks for any suggestions wink.gif

If I'm not mistaken, I think DH means Darling Husband???? Am I close? biggrin.gif
KathyB
Yes Kleo, I was talking about my husband. LOL, Staci depending on what kind of a day I am having, I may be willing to let your sister borrow him .

HI EVeryone!
I am new to these boards,I am so glad that I found others who understand what I have been trying to explain to my friends, family and Doctors of all kinds. I too have these internal shakes and it scares me to death. Been going on for a year but started as a flutter catching my attention. Then of course I obsesessed over this and worried going to doc to doc also had my first occular migrane with aura wow. Now I litterally shake especially when going to sleep, hard to sleep and wakes me as well. Seems to be more on one side ,Nothing you can visually see just I feel it. Buzzing , vibrating electrical, Don't know how to describe but makes you so uncomfortable in your skin, and panic of course accompanies it. Anyone else have this or simialr would love to share, its so scarey. Thanks for listening Gemlee53

Hi Gemlee. I've been experiencing the internal vibrations for about two years. It's worse a night also, or at least I feel it more. Hard to fall asleep, freaks me out. Sometimes it's worse than others and more widespread in my body. I've been taking magnesium which some swear by, but it doesn't seem to help me. Drs are baffled when I try to explain it to them. It is comforting to know that others experience this.

Hi Tina,

I've read through some of these posts and noticed your last post was 1/15.

I hope all is well with you.

God bless and get better.

Count me in as a shiverer too. It is not a fun one, but my hubby is very hot blooded..I just have to get with an inch of him and I can't feel the heat like a radiator coming off of him..so I just lay there and try to soak it in. I can't read in bed anymore because my hands get so cold that I can't hold the dang book. I have to curl up and put my hands between my legs. "Youth...is wasted on young people" as my daddy always said.. I am NOT OLD!!!!!!!! so there.

HI,
Here are a few things that a lack of magnesium will do, it causes internal shaking, some call it the jitters, it can cause a feeling of coldness especially before your period as the amount of calcium in the blood drops, it can cause vertigo, dizziness, sometimes an imbalance in your gait, it can cause a sudden jerkiness of the arms, hands, or legs, it can cause insomnia, and if low enough it can cause seizures. menopause causes many deficiencies and magnesium seems to be one of them. I have always taken calcium and magnesium 500/1000 mg because I am lactose intolerant, and therefore avoid most dairy products, but since menopause I found that I had to keep increasing the magnesium, because I was experiencing all of the above as time went on. Most places sell calcium / mag in 500/1000 mg which is what is suggested for women in menopause but now studies are showing that instead of a 1 to 2 ratio that a 1 to 1 ratio is more accurate. So now besides the 500/1000mg I take 2-250 mg of just magnesium. Even now I still have a hard time going 3 or 4 hrs without waking up, if I skip a day or two, I start getting cold and shaky. Hope this helps. laugh.gif

Thank you bell2you,
I am going to bump up my magnesium dosage. I just checked and I am only dosing at 500mg a day. Worth a try! Annie

Shivering, hot flashes, cold sweats - all in the same family. Right now, it seems anything goes. Of course, the "what ifs" kick in, then some horrible imaginary disease, instant cure about a couple of hours later after major anxiety and the cycle starts all over again. huh.gif
wingwalker
Too bad we can't disconnect our thought process when we start those 'what ifs'. This morning I woke to flushes and sweaty and got the good old anxiety on top of those which of course led to the 'thoughts' until I finally caught the spiral and pictured a stop sign in my mind - it helped. I swear if I let it continue I shoot out too much adrenaline which floats around my poor confused body and totally wrecks my day - i.e. hyper, sad, etc. Isn't it wierd when the 'instant cure' hits and you look back at the past five hours and think WHAT WAS THAT????? If my husband and kids only knew the extent..... geez!
