I no longer get canker sores! Hope this helps. It does seem that perimenopause can trigger a bad case of canker sores. Also, check your tooth paste, Sodium Laureth Sulfate can aggravate canker sores.

I don't have my periods anymore, but I get canker sores fairly often. I have one on the tip of my tongue right now and I hate it. These make it very hard to eat. I always think of AIDS when I have one of these, because I know that one of the symptoms for that is mouth sores. There are some OTC things that help me. One is a mouthwash-type liquid called Peroxyl and you swish that around in your mouth and it makes it feel better for a while. The others are those tubes of gel that you put right on the sore. Those usually taste funny, though, and I find them hard to get on the right spot. But they do numb the spot for a while. Sometimes a bit of wine at night helps, too smile.gif

I get the canker sores on occasion, too. I, like MaryO, get the little ones on the tip of my tongue and MY problem is, that I constantly 'bite' at them, and then they get REALLY sore! I have always had these, but I have noticed an increase since perimenopause. That and 'soreness' in the mouth in one place or another. I'm one of those people that 'bites the sides of my mouth', so I get little blood blisters quite often, but they always go away. Not fun! Huggers! Kleeo

This will sound really kookoo, but I too was plagued with canker sores from the time I was a toddler until a few years ago, when I gave up eating dairy foods. They were always worse just before my period, and sometimes I'd have 5 or 6 in my mouth at the same time, making it almost impossible to eat and talk. Twice I had to see a doctor for canker sores: one on my lip that had turned black - ugh, and another in my throat that I thought might be cancer! They would settle into strange places, up on the underneath of my palate, on my tongue. These were the worst: they'd slide against my teeth - OUCH!!!ohmy.gif I gave up dairy because I had a test that showed I was lactose intolerant, and the Lactaid supplements didn't seem to be helping. Now, on the rare occasions when I cheat (i.e. Christmas Day) and have a small amount of dairy, I usually notice the start of a canker sore within 24 hours, which simply "dies" the next day without ever breaking into ulcer mode. This is probably not the cause for everyone, but for me, it's the answer.smile.gif

My husband has problems with canker sores, I've had a couple and I know how painful they are. His doctor has tried a few medication but I found a over counter one that has really done the trick. It's called Kanka (mouth sore medication). His doctor said if you have a chronic problem it's cause from to much stomach acid. He also eat yogurt when one is coming on. So please tried the Kanka. ~C
