Hello,
I am looking for some advice and would be grateful for any. I am 39 yrs old
and have not had my period in over a yr. I have had 2 wonderful children that are 12 & 7. I had a tubal in 1996 after a complicated birth and uterine infection. I should of had a transfusion after the birth of my 2nd one, but I refused it. (Not out of ingnorance, but the hospital was the reason I lost so much blood - my IV malfunctioned and my blood was draining from me. ) I refused because I just wanted to get out of the hospital. The yrs have passed since then and other than baldder surgery I have been great . All was okay till I stopped menstruation. I have had some tests and around a yr ago it showed low estrogen and then recently my tests came back w/ very low prolactin and an almost non existent FSH. The Gyn retested again to rule out a Pituitary Adenoma . I have been having problems w/ painful headaches and visual disturbances, so I went to the opthamologist . The opthamologist said my problem ( I woke up w/ a black spot in my visual field) might be a migraine, but has scheduled a future neurological visual field test. My GYn has me on Provera (10mg) and ambien for sleep. The one nigt I took them both I vomited and became disoriented. My husband said I did not know where I was. I was exhausted the next day. I then received a call from the GYn office nurse that my test came back " normal". My Doc is not available till tomorrow. I am confused as to whether I just accept that answer or do I seek further testing ? My neighbor (is a GP) said I should find out why I was having problem after taking the medicine & why I had such low hormones. He suggested an endocrinologist. I am not one to go to the doctors, but I need some answers . Any suggestions ??? Thanks for listening.

Ps. I take Spironolactone for thinning hair. ( The weird thing is that this should increase my prolactin)

Wow, outerspace, you are really going through it! So sorry to hear about all of this. I'm with your neighbor; I would definitely seek the advice of an endocrinologist. Someone out there will get some answers for you! Good luck and let us know how you are!
Hugs,
Meryl
