Oh, you know something about bowling!! How does one keep one's elbow in while throwing the ball? tongue.gif I'm the least athletic person in the universe!

It's great that you have this business - good for you for going for it! Do you find the business (accounts, taxes, etc.) end of it daunting? My hub has run his own business for many years (just closed one and opened another), and loves the work. The "numbers" stuff makes him NUTS. Thank goodness for good accountants, LOL. Are there other hairdressers working with you, or is it a small shop?

Oh, I wish you lived nearby. I have the world's thinnest head of hair. Also, I'm VERY SHY about going to hairdressers - don't know why. Sometimes I actually tremble in the chair, which is embarrassing. Do you find anyone else has this problem?

I think I know the scarves you mean - they are popular here, too. Kind of "fuzzyish?" The colors are wild and beautiful!

Well, you asked where things are period-wise - last year I had only 2 periods, 6 months apart. My last period was in mid-November, and I don't feel any of the usual pre-period stuff (sore breasts and bloating), so don't expect to get another any time soon. I WANT TO BE DONE! Really hoping this is it. I'm 52, which is the median age when women hit menopause.

Have I done anything to manage it? Well, ENDURED! I'm on an anti-depressant (Lexapro), because of severe anxiety, and then a depressive crash last spring. It has helped a lot.

Other symptoms - hot flashes, insomnia, night sweats, fatigue, have all improved a gazillion percent. I'm happiest to see the fatigue gone - there were days it felt like I was walking around in a fog. Praying the improvement continues...

Are you in the thick of perimenopause? You mentioned starting a period soon after the wedding (BTW, I did the same thing! Period was due around daughter's wedding day, and I was late a week - like the body was saying, "you have enough to deal with!" smile.gif ) What symptoms do you find most challenging?

I really think most of these symptoms will pass. It's likely that the excitement/nervousness of the wedding did play a big part of your stress levels last year. Also, there's something about having the house to yourself, being able to focus in and do things in your own time. It's been very "healing" to me, at the same time that I miss my girl. smile.gif sad.gif

Well, I hope you have a great day, Jules! The snow is piling up here - think we've had about 8 inches so far, and they're predicting a foot before the day is over. Hub and I are in our pj's still, as we can't go anywhere until the driveway's plowed out! A nice enforced vacation day...

Love ya!
Jacquie

And the other thing Jules is that when you have appointments you have to force yourself to go.

Like I said in another post last week I started with a migraine when grocery shopping. Though I felt panicky and wanted to run I still chatted to the checkout lady as my shopping went through, like auto-pilot. Sometimes that forcing yourself to do things does help a bit. Like CW says you can't panic when you have to think of something else. smile.gif

And snap JJ I don't like going to the hairdressers. I colour my own hair and a hairdresser comes to my home to cut it. I don't like anything where you have to sit in a chair for longer than 15 mins which is why I'm way past having my eyes tested!
Juliann
Hi Jacquie

I feel for you on the bowling thing, I bowled for a few years on a league. I even took lessons to help me out. Some of the things I learned I will pass on to you. When you release the ball, your hand position should be like a "handshake", thumb at about 9 o'clock position. My ball was a finger tip, so that may be alittle different. But always keep your chin up and hand releaseing where you want that ball to go, concentrate.......you'll do fine!!!! At least have fun with it. This sport takes alot of time to be any good at it. Hope for beginners luck, lol.

Okay, thanks for so many cool questions. My salon has 13 stylists, and 1 facialist. I consider it a nice size, but now days we have super salons in the area that have like 65 stations.....OMG!!!! I have my hands full already.

Many clients are nervous, at least when we first meet. I try to be a comforting and trusted friend to most of my ladies. They grow to trust me very much, and look forward to our time together. They become like my extended family. I have wonderful ladies that I personnally look forward to seeing every 6-8wks. I am mostly a colorist. I specialize in the working women, who like a well maintained look. But I also have men, and a few teens that I love.....my favorite is highlights and color. I do not do any children, being the boss has its advantages, lol.

When you posted about your symtoms of peri, they are very similar. My most awful one is also killer fatigue, and the brain fog feeling. I thought I had fallen into depression also, but figure it is just peri. My doc offered me lexapro, so I took one pill, in the am. I went on the magical mystery tour for the day!!!! I should of probably taken it in half, and at night. The nausea was awful. That was last June. I am just "Enduring" as you so "acurately" put it. I get tired all the time, I need naps, and feel blue alot of the time.

Over the past month with the wedding planning, I was having night-sweats and insomnia (really bad).

Anxiety is a real hard one!!! I had panic attacks for about 7 yrs. I lived in anxiety, and fear. I couldn't even go out to eat with anyone. I hated shopping or going to the bank, being in a line, just freaked me out. Don't know what that was all about, but it did get better, and I still have some anxiety, but I rarely have a full blown attack. I handled it with xanax, lots of books, and lots of prayer. It took time. The nerves are not quick healers.

My hubby is on Lexapro, he has done really well (started in dec), his depression was very bad, he smiles alot now. The doc is adding a small dosage of effixor to his daily med's. He started that today, so well see. Cause he is still having to much anxiety. He's been such a mess with his neck and surgery, for so long, it has depleted him. I need to be very patient, he is very needy and I need to just be there for him (hard at times). He is able to go to work everyday, and since he started the work-out theraphy, is doing much better.

Yes we both miss our daughters, I shipped 3 boxes off to her today, of stuff she had to leave behind. I stuck pictures and books in there. I already sent a card with $$$$ in it. Are we momma, or what???

Jacquie, please tell me how the lexapro helped you???? I am wondering if I need it?? Would some women take it for help in peri??? Hugs~Jules

(((Alice))) Your anxiety sounds very like mine was. Are you trying anything for it??? If so what??? My husbands new doctor, that seems to really care, said that with some medications, it can improve your quality of life.
sybilleruth
Before menopause, I knew me and could introduce me. Now - I don't know me and am really don't think I should introduce me. Heck, if I am a stranger to me - I am sure I will be a stranger to someone else. sad.gif
joliejacq
Oh, Sybille, that's sad, and I know the feeling.... sad.gif It will get better, keep telling yourself. One day you'll have the real "you" again.

Jules,

You asked about the Lexapro. I took it only after becoming utterly wiped out with depression last April. I had been having severe anxiety (and increasing cry urge) for months and months, and then was sick in January with a terrible flu. I think it put me over the edge. There were a couple months of feeling VERY emotionally wobbly, and then in April I just became unable to get out of bed. I completely stopped eating, would have hysterical crying jags, and although I didn't become suicidal, I had no idea how I was going to continue, feeling as I was. Very frightening!

I had handled the severe anxiety, but the depression was simply more than I could manage. There was no choice - the antidepressant was necessary because I honestly didn't know how to go on without some help.

How did Lexapro help? It got me back on my feet again. Not to say it wouldn't have happened anyway, but I don't think it would have happened that quickly. After 2 months, I was moving around more easily (yes, I spent almost 2 months in bed!), doing a bit of housework, beginning to go for walks by myself, etc. By 3 months, I started driving again. I've now been on for 10 months, and continue to see improvement - my life is pretty much back to normal.

My initial dosage was 5 milligrams, half that recommended by my doc. Because I'm so frightened of medication (and was especially so of anti-depressants), I was in panic state for the first 3 days, then realized that I was actually not having any severe side effects, and upped it to 10mg. I took it in the morning, because it seemed to affect my sleep when I took it at night.

I've tolerated it well. In the very early stages, I was also on Ativan (similar to Xanax), because I had terrible shakes in the mornings. I was able to wean off that very quickly, and haven't taken it since last August.

Some women who've posted on P-S have taken Lexapro for help with peri anxiety that's less intense than what I was feeling. I say "whatever gets you through the night." I would have appreciated it while going through the intense anxiety prior to the depression.

When you made the comment that nerves don't heal quickly, that is SO RIGHT ON! It's like certain bones of the body that take a really long time to mend when broken. We tend to have booboos in our lives that we know will heal, and we go on our merry way. But with the nerves, it seems to be a VERY slow process. Curious, huh?

Claire Weekes talks about depression coming after long periods of physical problems (so it's not surprising about your husband, given the pain he's suffered). I too felt so needy while going through it, so can understand where he's coming from. This will pass for him, Jules.

Wow, your salon is big! 13 chairs is pretty significant! I wish I lived in your area and could come to you - wouldn't we have plenty to chat about?? laugh.gif

I'm sorry you struggle with the anxiety, too. We certainly aren't alone - SO many women have come to P-S looking for advice with this. It's what brought me here in the first place. The hot flashes, etc. were annoying, but it's the anxiety that was hardest to cope with.

We deserve to have some beautiful golden years after this menopause nonsense settles down!

Your bud,
Jacquie
Juliann
Hi Jacquie, Glad you posted!!!! As always your situation will speak to me and all others who will read it. Wow, you really went through the "ringer". Poor girl, I think you deserve a big hug!!!! My old counselor once told me that Anxiety and Depression are close cousins!!!! If you get one, you will also have some of the other, very true, huh?

I feel for all that you went through, and am so proud of you for working hard to get your life back, it wasn't easy I'm sure. Once you hit bottom, theres nowhere to go but up, lol.

I can honestly say that since the day I had my very first panic attack, 11 yrs ago, my life has never been quite the same, even though most days are okay, it always lurks around the corner, it seems. At my hardest time, I felt like I was losen it. I'm bascially a very strong independant person, I became so humble through that experience. It changed me alot, and in many ways for the better, as I learned compassion.

My hubby is also taking some huge new steps, OMG, its so wonderful to see him smile and have an improved quality of life, its amazing!!!! Thanking God daily for it. The Lexapro was the kick start to it!!!!

Yeah, I wish you were here to, and I could sit and chat with you, its very comforting, your very dear!!!! Some of my clients rush into my chair and say "just make me beautiful", and I say, I'm a beautician, not a magician!!! laugh.gif

Well, I had drama, drama, tonight at the salon. One of my young 30's client, who has had a rough go the past three years since her divorce. Told me she is dating a neat new guy and things could be getting serious. He's also divorced. He is partime student (at 39) and partime bartender. She had a cell phone that has pictures on it, and showed me his picture. Well, one of the girls I work with, is divorced and currently living on the edge, partying all the time, has had this new "bartender guy" calling her and basically meeting her for drinks. AND, its the same guy!!!!! Can you say "two timer"!!!! Oh, it was a mess, the girl left in tears going to break it off with the jerk.......just another day in paradise, eh???

These are the strange and crazy things that can just happen, I was so sad for her because she's a really nice girl and can't find a decent guy. But I told her that its a good thing she found it out now, then later......right???

Anyway, just rambling here, hope its worth reading!!!! You take care, you have a strong spirit, and great determination, a women of strength!!!!!! smile.gif
Love ya, Jules
joliejacq
Oh, I'd be tempted to just do something SO MEAN to that guy! mad.gif

I know at least 2 women in the past year who believed that they were getting serious with guys, and in BOTH INSTANCES they somehow got love-letter emails "mistakenly" sent to them when the guys thought they were writing to someone else! And one of the women stayed with the jerk!

How can some men DO this?! Makes my blood boil. You must have felt terrible! That poor girl.

Oh, thanks for the kind words about my pulling myself together, LOL - it's still a daily job! Yes, once we get the "anxiety bug," it's hard not to feel it's always potentially biting at our heels. Our only choice is to keep going on, huh? When I feel it really encroaching, I go back to Claire Weekes' books - Lordy, how they have helped.

Hope you have a wonderful day, dear Jules, no big dramas in the chairs. It must be so much fun to form those connections with clients you're fond of. They are lucky to have you!

Have a great one!
Jacquie
Juliann
Hi Jacquie, Hows the snow??? Thought of you today, as it was just chilly enough for a light jacket, are we wimps or what??? tongue.gif

No major drama today, thank goodness!!! I had some time to kill this morning so I called an old friend that I haven't talked with lately. She was feeling kinda down because she has vertigo. She complained of feeling not herself lately and went on and on with things like what WE HAVE. I asked my friend how old she was and she said 50, so I told her she may be in Peri-land. As I started telling her these things, she was amazed!!!! She had NO-CLUE!!!! She thought she had some strange illness, that gave her fatigue, anxiety, etc. Made her day, to know that it could just be "meno" coming her way. Of course a DR should check it all out, but she said all her blood work was normal. (wondering why doctors didn't even mention this to her????) !!!

It just makes my day to know that I found this website, and became informed. Otherwise I would be thinkin the same way, blink.gif

I wanted to thank you for all your info on the lexapro, its wonderful that we live in an age where things like that are possible, you know?? If we lived 100 yrs ago, we would have been burned at the stake or something. Classified nutty old ladies.

At what year would you say your peri started???

You have been a great strength, a very good hearted friend, thanks.......Jules
joliejacq
Hi Jules,

Well, I skipped a day here, as for some reason, I couldn't post yesterday. Could type out replies, but then when I clicked on the "Reply" button, it did nothing. Thankfully, it seems to be working again today!

It must have been so comforting for your friend to hear that she might just be having good ol' perimenopause. Isn't it nice to be able to comfort others like this? I have had the vertigo!! (and everything else in peri!). It goes away, but is very daunting while we feel so off-balance. A couple of other friends my age have also had the vertigo. So strange that we should be affected in that way, but hormones really do control just about everything in the body.

You're sooooo right - why didn't her doctors tell her she might be in peri? Women worry themselves sick over these symptoms. The fatigue can just be debilitating - I used to fear I was just dying!

We are all waiting for some balance!

My very earliest symptoms started when I was 39 - heart palpitations, mostly. But everything was minor and very manageable until the severe anxiety, and then depression hit, about 1.5 years ago now (I'm 52). Hot flashes, night sweats, headaches, etc. were bothersome, but not terrible. When I was beginning to have trouble coping with getting thru' the day, I googled menopause and found this site - THANK GOD.

Well, you are funny needing jackets on warm days! tongue.gif As we come out of winter, everyone pulls their summer clothes out of storage as soon as the days hit 50 - such a relief! It's been a brutal one this year - still snow as far as the eye can see, banks up over my head in the driveway. Enough! At least the birds are singing in the mornings - we're banking a lot on their sense of hope!

You are a wonderful P-S buddy - I so enjoy your posts. Hope you are having a great Sunday, getting in some good relaxation time, as your weeks sure do sound full and busy!

Jacquie
Juliann
Hey Jacquie,

Okay, I feel really bad needing a jacket when its only 65 degree's out, but I think our blood is very thin out here. wink.gif I can't imagine summer starting at 50 degree, it would be like eskimo weather to me!!!!

Well gosh, I had two awful bouts of Vertigo myself, all in my late thrities. Hmmm, I guess it is really weird that we all have had it to one extent or the other.

I bought myself a FSH kit, its a do it at home test, it helps you see your level and if you are in or nearing menopause. I thought it would be a good test, will do it tommorrow morning. I'll let you know.

Am having a nice relaxing day, its amazing how nice it is to be home alone. Yeah my grief has settled, and its rather nice, hahahahah.

Will talk with you tommorrow, I am rushing out to the video store, we rented the movie "The Notebook", have you seen it??? I thought it was really good. Will talk more later......Hugs, Jules
joliejacq
Good Monday morning, Jules,

I haven't seen "The Notebook," but other people are posting about this movie right now, so I'll have to get it. Sounds like they're suggesting keeping hankies nearby! I could actually use a sob-session; I've had a bit of the old "cry urge" lately (hate when that crops up), so it might make me feel more sane to actually have something to cry about! smile.gif

Well, I'm curious about your FSH test. Do tell! I've glanced at those in the supermarket.

Yes, it is amazing how quickly we get accustomed to having our houses to ourselves! Isn't it comical how much more slowly dishes stack up in the sink? On days when my husband is out for dinner with clients, I don't cook, just rummage in the fridge for leftovers - nothing to do but read and lounge.... Like being a kid again.

Dave and I had the grandkids on Saturday, and we were WIPED OUT when they left. Who would think 2 little girls could completely demolish a house? Good thing they are so darned adorable!
biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Well, enjoy your great weather! We won't get to 65 until late May!

Have a great week,

Luv,
Jacquie
alice3
Got the DVD and the book at the same time (same writer as Message in a Bottle - Kev Costner), so decided to start reading the book in bed last night. (Thought I'd give my eyes a rest from crying). I couldn't put the book down! And just like I am about "I'll not eat anymore chocolate...well just one piece", and on and on, I was the same with the book and I had to fight the urge not to look at the last page!
wingwalker
Thanks to your surgers I certainly loved that movie, rented it this weekend. Bawled my eyes out and thoroughly enjoyed it. Alice, I layed on the couch in my sweats and ate a huge bag of guacamole doritos and and medium sized bag of peanut m&m's (just finished a salad biggrin.gif ). Also Alice, just bought the book Bliss at Amazon - got a used one for $3.15.

Thanks for the leads. All's I feel like doing lately is reading..... did I just say that?- I never read - who am I lately? ohmy.gif
Juliann
HI Jacquie, Alice and all the other "powers that be".

Alice, I heard that the book was excellant. I'm sure you are breezing through it, I just love a good book, nothing better for me!!!! BUT, when I read (which is alot, or watch a movie) its all about snack time, I have no will power. tongue.gif

Jacquie, I'm sorry that you are on the "cry" emotions. I felt kinda a downer today as well, can't put my finger on why, just figure its my wacky hormones. I tend to blame everything on them these days, and rightfully so!

Plus you had the greadkids, two of them!!!! Both girls, how lucky you are, and yeah I heard how they wipe you out, EVERY Grandmother that I know tells me this same exact thing. It takes a couple days to recover. I bet you are crazy over them.

Okay took that FSH test this morning, You put first urine of the day in special cup, and then dip the testing stick into it, let it sit for 20 min, and see the results. Mine showed up normal (so much for these tests, lol), its says to take the 2nd test in two weeks, this will make it more accurate, as you can change levels, which could indicate menopausal symtoms, duh!!!! I think it just gave me something to do!!!

My hubby ordered some new exercise equipment , yea!!!! We are getting a treadmill, and some type of weight training contraption. This means that I am expected to work out. I am SO bad about working out, I hope that I can get into a small routine, maybe lift some of my blues???

Bought a nice light blue pinned striped suit, for the wedding I have to attend on Saturday, yes another wedding!!!! I am going broke, help!!!!

Well, I hope your smilin, and I hope you know just how special you are, I think your great!!!!

love Ya, Jules
joliejacq
The FSH said you were in the "normal" range? If I got that kind of reading, I'd fling the darn thing out the bathroom window!

Hey, good luck with the workout gear. That's great! Maybe just having it right there will be kind of inspirational.

Bet you'll be in a COMPLETELY different frame of mind for this wedding, huh? You can just go and eat cake and have a blast! We have one coming up this summer (for a nephew), and I just can't wait. Weddings (other people's especially) are soooo much fun! Dance it up!
joliejacq
You know, I have never seen anyone use the little sleepy icon. (Hoping it shows up here - I clicked on it, but it doesn't appear to be placing itself anywhere.)

Does it signify sleep? Because if so, it's on the wrong website!
Juliann
Hi Jacquie,

Can anyone explain to me why guys don't like chick flicks??? A good romantic comendy???? My hubby (and I assume most others) like films with major action or sports somehow in the plot. Now that we are watching some movies together, in the empynest, he wants me to watch his type of movies as well, can you say Boring!!!!! Am I being unreasonable???? Probably, huh????

Anyway I know that I will have to compromise on this! Are you into sports?? I know lots of women who love it and watch it, I didn't get that gene somehow. I need to have a self talk, and tell myself that I can do this, lol.

Peri makes me rather opinionated, if I don't want to do something, I just say so, and I need to realize that I can hurt his feelings.

How are you doing??? Been thinking of you!! Take Care, Jules
alice3
My husband actually likes the first Bridget Jones but tends to go off when those sort of films are on. I don't mind though as I like the lights off and complete silence. As I said before I love the old Doris Day romcoms. I know they're all the same story but I turn into a squidgy young thing when I watch them. I also love the Moonlight Bay/Silvery Moon ones and most musicals. I see my other self in musicals. I love to belt out a song and do little tap dances on my own (as I have never had a lesson in my life this must look hilarious laugh.gif ) but I would never do it in public. I perhaps was a singer in a previous life (burlesque knowing my luck!) laugh.gif

My husband likes football (soccer) ("Bend it like Beckham" satisfied both our preferences) and car chases I'm afraid.
joliejacq
Hub and I both liked Bend It Like Beckham, too. Have you guys seen Whale Rider? It's about a young girl in the Maori tribe (I think) of New Zealand. She wants to be taught in the ways of the religious leaders (her grandfather is the chief), but because she is a girl, she's not allowed. It is a WONDERFUL movie, but make sure the Kleenex is nearby!

Jules, I did not get the sports gene either, and get this, NEITHER DID MY HUB! smile.gif Our daughter played soccer in high school, and it is the only sport we enjoy, sort of (not like we'd watch it on TV, tho').

Hub and I like pretty much all movies. Action is okay, romance is okay. We just joined Netflix, and are having a BALL renting from them. We're watching all the Oscar winners from the beginning, and have seen some amazing movies. Mutiny on the Bounty with Clark Gable - I'd never been a Gable fan till I saw this film. He was GORGEOUS! This weekend we roared over the old Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde with Spencer Tracy and Ingrid Bergman. Talk about an unlikely cast! Yesterday Metropolis came in the mail - can't wait to see this old 1929 classic again! I saw it in a Theatre class in college, and it was amazing - hope it holds up to my memories about it.

Movies are getting us through this horrid winter. We got another pile of snow last night!

Alice, I can just see you belting out your tunes! cool.gif Good way to melt some of this peri-stress!

Have a good one, girls!
Juliann
Hi Jacquie & Alice,

Well Alice I have to hand the Oscar to you!!!! Sounds like you are a frustrated movie star, lol. We watched the first Briget Jones, and it was good, I didn't even know there was a second, have to check that out. I like old movies and hey, Doris Day was very cool in her time.

Jacquie, With such a winter as this, I am feeling for you!!! I'm not gonna mention that we were in the 80's today, ops tongue.gif Anyway all this snow is making you the grand master of the oscars of all time!!!

Do you have an all time favorite movie, or somewhat favorite??? I will tell you mine, its the movie "Moonstruck" with Cher and Nicholas Cage. I love that movie!!!!

Rented the movie Vanity Fair, its long, but I thought it was good, and I love those 1800's type movies, the costumes are wonderful, I am glad that we don't have to squeeze into those corsetts, ouch!!!!

Well have a great winters day!!!! Jules, sunscreen and all!!!! laugh.gif
alice3
Vanity Fayre with Reese Witherspoon. It's not out on DVD yet over here. I'm looking forward to it. The BBC version was good (as always) and Daniel Deronda. I'm sure you'll get them there eventually. the Beeb are always good for a costume drama. I love it when they start a mini series in the winter.
joliejacq
Yes, Alice, your BBC series are AMAZING! We get them on "Masterpiece Theatre," offered on Public Broadcasting. Prime Suspect was fabulous!

Also loved Second Sight, Forsyte Saga, Inspector Lyndley (gorgeous, he is!), Poirot, Inspector Morse (my hub's favorite). And those drawing-room dramas, so elegant.

Some years ago they did a Sherlock Holmes with a Jonathan someone who later passed away, so the series didn't continue. He was the BEST Sherlock Holmes I have ever seen!

Here's what I love about British TV: Here in the states there is not an actor or actress alive who will allow themselves to really look human and frumpy. I'm sorry, that even goes for Renee Zellweiger in Bridget Jones - she looks like someone "trying" to look frumpy! But in the British programs, you get people who are cast so utterly well - women with huge buck teeth, men with bulbous noses like they've been in too many boxing matches, women who are pretty other than the fact that they have no necks, REAL PEOPLE!!!

The one drawback to British TV: In some shows, I can't quite make some of the people's accents - must be local pronunciations, etc. Rumpole of the Bailey is a hoot and a half, but I have no idea what the heck he's saying!!!
joliejacq
Favorite movie of all time?

"Eat Drink Man Woman." The ending made me weep, and after several years, still resonates with me.

Beautiful movie.
joliejacq
Oh, Jules, RUB IT IN, GIRL - you with your sunscreen!!

It was zero degrees when I walked Norton this morning.

Yeah, you carry around your sunscreen; I'll have to stick to the snow shovel.

MORE SNOW COMING THIS WEEKEND! ohmy.gif

Oh, well, luv you anyway!!!!! smile.gif
Juliann
I read somewheres that people who live in Maine, tend to get crabby by March, with all the endless cold........ tongue.gif Oh Jacquie, hope I didn't hit a tender spot, it was only 86 here today!!!! Sunscreen is melting off me!!! lol

I will agree that british humor is my favorite, when I can understand it. Some of my favorite movies have british actors. A Fish Called Wanda, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I do love senseless comedies!!!!

I never heard of "Eat drink Man Woman", is that an older movie???

Did you ever watch any of the Seinfeld sitcom???? That was probably my favorite on TV. I don't watch it much these days, hubby likes "food Channel". He likes cooking stuff, which is good, I say practice makes perfect, right????

Well, I'm thinking of you!!!!! Stay warm!!!!

Hugs~Jules
joliejacq
"Eat Drink Man Woman" is a few years old. Beautifully shot, funny and poignant, about a man and his daughters coming to terms, generational issues. It's directed by Ang Lee (of China, I think). Thank goodness for movies while we are dealing with all this snow. They are predicting another 12 TO 18 INCHES tonight and tomorrow! We have nowhere left to put it!

I watched Seinfeld in its early days, and yes, it was hilarious! As the years went on, I was too busy to catch it regularly. The only show I regularly watch is "Survivor." Hub and I are both addicted, and the corker is that we can't STAND reality shows. For some reason, this one is intriguing, even tho' we complain thru the whole series about how unkind the people are. Gluttons for punishment!

Oh, food channel is wonderful. Have you ever seen Nigella (she's on another channel that we don't get anymore). sad.gif Or Jamie Oliver? Both of these are British chefs, and very talented! Nigella made an orange cake one Christmas which my husband has made for me a few times. Your husband also cooks? Are we lucky, or what?
Juliann
Hi there snow bunny!!!! I cannot believe the winter wonderland you have going. I'm sure that its gonna be a real blessing when spring/summer finally comes your way.

I will check out that movie next time we go rent one. I am not a big movie watcher, but since daughter left, we have been kinda in zombie land, lol. Yes I do know who Jamie Oliver is, and do you know who Rachel Ray is??? She does the 30 min meals. Hubby loves all that stuff, yes we are lucky to have them cook. Only wish it was more often!!!

We also like to BBQ, hubby bought a really nice grill last summer, and its been great cooking on it.

One thing that I have noticed with going thru peri, is that I have so little energy to participate in everything that others would like me to do. This gets me feeling somewhat guilty. Its hard for me to just sit back and do nothing, but sometimes its all I can do, can you relate??? I am working towards a new balance in my life, its okay to say "no". I think that word has alot of power, and it feels risky to use it, but I think we need to sometimes.

We can't expect others to fully understand what we are going through, but just respect our limits. In the end, we must be responsible for our lives and the quality of it. I don't think most people will be around if you have a breakdown, so better to avoid it.

My ponderings for the day, hope you have some imput, my wise bubby!!!!

Oh, and stay clear of yellow snow, lol

Sending some warm hugs~Jules w/sunscreen smile.gif
joliejacq
Hey Sun Queen,

Yes, I do relate to doing nothing but sitting around staring into space. tongue.gif After years of being a super-active person, I find myself slogging thru' the days. There is definitely some guilt about it. It's a strange feeling, isn't it? Like you just don't know what to do with yourself... I've been telling myself it's a winter thing, but if you're feeling it too???

Well, we've earned the right to some down time. My daughter's all for my lounging around. She's always felt I did too much running here and there, and too fussy over the house, etc. Boy, THAT'S GONE! tongue.gif

You're right, we ultimately have to take care of ourselves. I've had a breakdown, and it was terrifying. Thank God for David - he really came through. Friends were kind, but cautious. You get to know who is truly committed to you during these times. My Power-Surge sisters were AWESOME!!!

How is your daughter doing? Is her husband still away? This is a big transition for her, for sure. Hope all is well, and love is keeping her happy... laugh.gif Don't you remember those sweet days of being with your new husband? I remember saying out loud "my husband," because it felt so strange and wonderful.

Gee, I've never heard of Rachel Ray. Wish I could watch cooking shows all day long! And we, too, love barbecuing, and have been known to do it while the snow is coming down....

Speaking of which. <_< It's piling up today, but the fat flakes really are pretty. We have no idea where we are going to put it - our driveway is nothing but a path!

Oh, well, have a good weekend, Jules. Enjoy the warmth!

Snow Bunny
Juliann
Hi Jacquie (AKA, snow bunny)!!!!

You have me imagining these grand snow flakes and it all sounds so cozy. I always love the rain, and wind as well, but hey enough is enough, right??? Today was cloudly (no sun queen, today). So I cooked a good healthy chicken soup and yummy, I'm from Eastern European parents, so soup is in my blood!!!!

Thanks for your insight with the fatigue. I think your situation is much harder with the cold weather, I would probably be in a coma!!!! Recognizing what is happening as we age helps alot to take special care and let it be. I've been just dragging today, and really I haven't done that much.

Haven't talked with Daughter in 3 days, she hasn't called and I've been wondering how she is. He's back, but leaving on Tuesday for another 3 days out in the field, so by then she will be calling me. Its hard to be #2!!!! I think they are bonding and getting settled. They did not know each other for very long before the wedding day, so they have alot to explore. I'm trying to just let some time pass and get used to this idea. Its hard. Him and I haven't really had a relationship form, so its all about trying to figure out what he's really like and get to know him, which is hard cause they are so far away.

Have you ever read any books by C.S. Lewis??? I'm reading a great book about his life and so many of the thoughts he had and things he said are so comforting to me.

The wedding I went to on Saturday, was a goofy wedding. Many of us went to witness the ceremony, which was at the courthouse. It was suppose to be in and out in 15 min. But..... the groom forgot his ID, so we all had to stand their for an hour while he went home to get it. The whole day seemed to drag on and on, the reception was delayed (in their back yard) people were late, it was unorganized. No one there seemed to care as everyone was drinking it up!!!!! But you would be proud, I was patient and nice (tho irratated).

Love, Jules
alice3
Ooh Jules..that sounds like prince Charles's wedding! laugh.gif

Are you reading The Chronicles of Narnia? I'm real lazy and wait til they come on the Beeb!

One book I have read which made me giggle aloud, even though it was written in the 1800's is Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskill. It's about ladies of a certain age and Miss Matty is a very funny character who wears 2 caps as she has a poor memory thanks to meno. So it did happen then too!

Yes, it's hard to take a step back and let your kids get on with life as you want to check up on them that they are safe. My daughter drives me crazy not setting her burglar alarm when she goes to bed (she too is on her own much of the week). Sometimes she even calls us to go down there late at night! That's how it is though, there when they want you, stay away when they don't. smile.gif

Poor you with all that snow JJ. We are expecting warmer weather later in the week but it's very sunny here today and I have been able to hang washing outside. DH thought that the towels smelt funny...that's cos it was dried in "fresh" air and not tumbled! laugh.gif
joliejacq
Oooohhh, line-dried towels and sheets!!! Alice, this has cheered me up!

We know the better days are coming, even tho' we have about 4 feet of snow in the backyard, LOL. It's been helping to read some Spring issues of magazines - we can dream about being outside in - gasp! - light sweaters!

Well, I bought 6 pairs of shoes online this weekend - something I NEVER do! Spring needs to come, or we are going to go broke! Granted, I haven't actually bought shoes in about 2 years, so the old ones are looking pretty grungy. Can't wait for them to arrive!

Jules,

You kept it together during that goofy wedding! tongue.gif It must have been frustrating. Standing around waiting for things to happen is not what you expect at a wedding!

Hey, I'm with you about the soup thing. We are BIG soup eaters around here. I used to love to have soup on the first day of my period (I know this sounds crazy!), because the warmth in my tummy seemed to spread over and soothe the whole pelvic area. Do you have a good chicken soup recipe? Do you start by cooking a whole chicken, or do you buy broth? I just can't seem to find a good broth to begin with.

Alice is right, it's a little tricky at first when our daughters hitch up with their guys. It takes awhile to find our place. It is too bad you haven't had more opportunity to get to know your son-in-law, but you will in time. It's quite a big transition for the whole family.

I haven't read C.S. Lewis, but do know of him, and know that he wrote many books on Christian living. There's a new biography of him out, I believe - is this what you're reading? He must be a wonderful writer, because he's got a gazillion books, and they all circulate pretty regularly at our library (I'm a volunteer there, and get to re-stack them). It's nice you're enjoying his works so. He's on my list, with oh-so-many other books I wish to get to one day.

And now have to add that one Alice mentioned. Glad to know they were dealing with this meno stuff then, too! We tend to think it's only our generation that's been hit so hard!

Have a wonderful day, Sisters.

smile.gif
Juliann
Ahhh Alice thanks for your perceptive words on the wedding of the year!!! tongue.gif

Thanks for the info on the book by Gaskill, I will look for it, maybe today!!! I love that era and I like humor very much.

You both are great at reminding me how these newly moved away daughters act, its really quite the same for us all, lol. The big news today is, she called me and is planning to come home for 2 weeks in April. He is going out into the field for 17 days, so she wants to come home. AND, she was rather pushy with me about making time to come pick her up at HER convenience from the airport. Never mind that its a work day for me, after all , do I want her to come home or not???? She ticked me off over that, but I just "nicely" said, okay maybe my voice was not so nicely, but I tried to imply that she should at least try to plan around our work schedule, since she does not work. Somehow all that wisdom and thankfullness escapes her these days.

Hey Jacquie, I am ready to give you my chicken soup recipe, don't tell anyone or I will have to kill you, lol

The best soups are plain, simple, with great taste. I usually buy some chicken, like for us its boneless chicken breasts, diced to bit size or so pieces. Salt and pepper set aside. Then dice up all the stuff you want in it. I usually dice up onions, garlic, celery, carrots, zuccini, parsnips(root veggies are good) now let me tell you, use anything you like, broccoli, cauliflower, greenbeans, potatoes, add alittle spinach, for florentine style!!!! Just wonderful.

Then to start the soup, saute the onion & garlic in a couple TBSP of Olive Oil, until tender, add the chicken pieces, saute until the pink is gone (med heat), then add your choice of veggies, saute another 3-4 min. Then add the water, enough to make a good broth amount (don't over do the water). Make sure to add a couple tablespoons of parsley, its very important. Then simmer gently, until veggies are tender, usually about 30 min or so. I season my soup with salt, pepper, boullion cubes, you can add alittle tyme. All the veggies make it so good, especially the greens, and parsley. I cook up some pasta, in a seperate pan, and add it to the bowls when I serve it, along with some good bread.

Helpful hint, my family uses a soup powder, its like boullion, its called Vegeta, its used in Europe, I find it at my local market, but it does contain MSG. But any other kind will do as well. Hope this translates well for you!!!

Well have a wonderful day , Jules
MaeFlower
Hey Jules,

That soup recipe sounds wonderful. Can the rest of us use it or will you have to kill all of us if we do? laugh.gif There's nothing like a good bowl of homemade soup.

SOUPS ON FOR "EVERYONE".......ENJOY, MAYFLOWER!!!!

I also have a beef soup thats good, but only by request!!!! tongue.gif

Love ya all~ Jules
alice3
And our daughters sound alike too Jules! Ours thinks we sit round waiting for her to tell us to do something for her! She even rang us at 2 in the morning to fetch them from a party after they'd sent the taxi away!

I used to make soup from the Christmas turkey but only the dog and I ate it. He loved it. After devouring it he would come and push his nose at you and burp loudly. Compliments indeedee! laugh.gif
Juliann
I'm discovering that daughters are daughters and they must believe that we were created to serve only them, lol. We aren't suppose to be tired at 2am, and also don't forget the money tree that grows in the yard.

My son informed me last night, that he is now considering engaging his long time girlfriend on her birthday on the 25th (does that mean ANOTHER wedding coming up, OMG). He's going on 25, and they have been dating about 3yrs. She's very nice, but they do argue alot, but in a sense that would make them a very normal married couple, right?

These adult kids are currently striping me of my mental facilities!!!!

As for the dog and the soup, how cute. I also have dogs (three little ones) they rule the house. They are pretty well behaved, but one of them, she's very moody, I've never met a dog like her. She has looks to kill. She will not let me clean her eyes, she will try to bite me if I do something she doesn't like. But if the doctor examines her, she is a perfect angel, hummmm. What do you do with that? A girl, so what should we expect laugh.gif

Hugs~Jules
joliejacq
Jules,

Could your little gal-dog be menopausal? smile.gif

Okay, let's have the beef-soup recipe too, since the chicken one sounds so utterly delicious! Guess I have to find a good type of bouillon cube or powder - I'll look for the Vegeta.

Funny the daughter complaints here right now! Yesterday I decided to be a good daughter/mother, and drove an hour to my mom's house. She lives near my daughter, so we thought we'd all hook up: me, mom, daughter, and my 2 granddaughters. I'd offered to take them out for lunch.

When I drove in, both mom and daughter were sitting in rockers with their coats and hats on. 11:30 in the morning, and they both informed me that they were FAMISHED, and let's hurry-hurry and go. No, "Hi ma! Hi honey!" Just - oh, thank God you are here and about to feed us! (Well, the granddaughters did come over and bury their little heads in my lap - bless their hearts!)

I alternately listened to and comforted my mom for her current troubles, then my daughter for hers all afternoon. No one asked how I was doing, and there sure wasn't an opportunity to "jump in" between the two of them! Not to mention the little ones wanting grandma Jacquie to play this and that (which offered a very welcome break). Isn't this what they call the "sandwich generation?" So true!

What a joy to pull back into my own driveway at the end of the day! Once in the house, I was tempted to throw myself down and kiss the kitchen floor.

Don't get me wrong - I love 'em all to pieces. Just realize how much it seems to be about GIVING all the time. They think I'm made of steel!

Sheesh, thanks for listening.

Juliann
Hey Jacquie,

Yep, you can join our used and abused group, lol. This group that you went to lunch with is the needy group. Not friends that give and take, this is FAMILY, what did you expect, right??? My own mother could wear me out for 3 days, just with a phone call.

I came home extremely tired out tonight, so the beef soup will have to wait until I have the energy to post it, but glad you liked the chicken!!!!!

I think your effort to drive an hour to visit them was noble, and of course you are a great mom and daughter, thats why you do the things that you do. And its very hard, at times to always give out, it would feel good to have them truely ask how YOU are doing. Maybe its this repressive stage, that causes us to become such complainers when we get older, now we will be heard, its our last chance, lol. I hope thats not to profound, but maybe????

My mother turned that way, and I swore I wouldn't do some of the things she did, but alas I see so much of her in me at times.......

Anyway, my poor brain is tired, but wanted you to know that I think your great and always love to hear whats up????? Many think that way of you!!!!

Hugs and love, Jules
joliejacq
Awww, Jules, thank you. smile.gif That goes right back at you, you know!

I've thought of this too - maybe we all turn into curmudgeons when we get old! Boy, if it's genetically transmitted, look out world!

Well, I did it. Made an appointment for a haircut for next Wednesday. My first in YEARS. I am a bit of a wreck, and fear trembling like a leaf in the chair. I'm going to explain to the hairdresser (he's a man my hub knows thru' work), that I have this phobia, and hope he doesn't think I'm completely nuts!!! blink.gif I hope he doesn't jab me in the eye with the scissors if I start shaking...

Since this is your expertise, do you mind if I ask some advice? Any ideas for a good style for someone with babyfine thin hair, and a long face? (I know, I sound like a freak!) Straight bobs are a bit too angular, as my features are a tad sharp, too. How short can I go without looking like an utter pinhead? I love the idea of having something new and chic, but realize that I'm limited somewhat by such thin hair.

You must put in some big weeks, owning a shop, having employees, then a home to care for, etc. Sheesh, no wonder you're tired! Add peri to the mix, and AYE-YI-YI!!

Will you be able to get some downtime this weekend? I'm hoping you can take it good and easy!! Put your feet up, Girl!!

Have a good one,

Jacquie
leanne0721
Jacquie-

Long layers. Keep it long, just layer it and it will look thicker.

I had a real problem sitting in a chair, at the hair dresser, or the dentist- I'd freak out!! It was TORTURE for me.

But I was forced into going to the dentist, and I just told the hygenist "I have a panic disorder, and I don't do well confined like this, so if I need to get up, forgive me", and she was very understanding.

My point is, just tell him, keep that lovely sense of humor you have, and I'm sure he'll be understanding.

If not, don't tip him biggrin.gif

Good Luck!!!!!!!
leanne0721
I know you were asking Jules for HER advice, but you know me, I just had to jump in there.... sheesh.... that gets me in more trouble! LOL wink.gif
Juliann
Hi Jacquie,

I'm so very proud of you!!!! You are going out of your comfort zone, thats great. Now here is a pointer from me. Do you take xanax?? I ask this because when I do something that I know will be panic city for me, I try to get myself calm beforehand. So that I won't get jitters so bad.

Relax, its no biggie, think less of yourself, and put more energy into smiling and bringing goodness to others, the less we focus on ourselves the better we feel. These are thoughts that I use. I know you will do great, I will be praying for you.

Now about your hair, leanne had good advice. Is your hair longer now? Do you have a long or short neck. On long necks, stay away from short in the back, otherwise you look to much like a long neck, right??? If your neck is normal or short, than you can go slightly shorter if you like.

Do you know how to style your own hair?? Do you know how to round brush, with a blow dryer??? If you have layers and want some fulness, you need to have the stylist give you a quick lesson on blow drying the hair. Do you use hot rollers, or just wash and go??? I ask these questions, because a style is only useful if the client can repeat it at home.

Many of my thin hair clients, either get a light perm, to add volume, or get some highlights or color done, this changes the texture of the hair and it appears fuller.

A bob is straight accross all the way around, or an A-line, which tips slightly longer towards the front, a little shorter in the back. With layers a slight A-line cut can look great. Or if you are gonna keep it mid-length, go for long layers, or all over layers (which is more work, unless your hair is curly).

A great thing to do before your appointment, is check out magazines and take a pic to him and show him a style you would like. Pictures are great for stylists to see what you are talking about. Its all good communication.

Well I could go on, but I'll wait for your questions on this. I'm so glad that you did it, and the outcome is not even as important as the fact that you are doing something that you've wanted to do for years. I'm very impressed, its just wonderful.

Scissors in the eye??? Well its never happened to anyone I know of, so I think your chances of losing your eyesight is slim to none, no need to worry about that, but losing an earlobe (just kidding)!!!!!!! laugh.gif

Be strong~Jules
joliejacq
Jules,

Oh, no - I hadn't thought about the ears!! ohmy.gif

And Leanne, thanks for jumping in - I need all the help I can get!

Jules, I do have Ativan (similar to Xanax), and will think about taking 1/4 of a tablet (more than this, I could sleep in the chair - but then again, maybe they could just wake me at the end of it?).

What do you mean by long layers? I honestly think I look better with slightly longer hair, but didn't think layering was possible with babyfine hair? (I don't have a lot of it, either.) My hub has always done a straight-across bob, and I cut the bangs myself. Once we did it with a slightly longer bit in the front, and I felt that it was too "sharp" with my angular face. With long layers, do you mean layering down at the lower edge of the bob? Not up near the scalp at all?

My neck is just "normal," I think. Not too long or short. My mouth has gotten droopy, and I've been concerned about a bob that ends right at the mouth area - too much attention drawn there?

I tend to just wash and go, but am willing to spend some time using the brush-and-blow dry technique. It DEFINITELY makes a difference in volume to blow-dry! My hair hasn't done well with perms - it frizzed right up both times I tried (in the 1980's when perms were the rage!), even though I was having professional "soft" perms. I haven't colored my hair, but would consider it. Will the texture change when my hair really goes gray? (Just starting at the edges.)

You are so nice to respond to this, both of you! smile.gif I truly appreciate it.

Hope you have a great weekend!
alice3
Can't you have it feathered around your face. If you hot brush it it bulks it up and looks thicker.

Well done at making the appointment JJ. i have a hairdresser that visits my home. She's nice and chatty so time flies. Also I'm not sitting waiting.

I laughed at (was it) Leanne's post. What do you think they'll say when I've got my boob flattened between two sheets of glass and I ask to 'take a moment'. If you read of a streaker in your newspaper, I was the one that got away! laugh.gif

No really, that was good advise. I tell people if I feel nervous and honestly, they are much more caring and understanding.
Juliann
Hey Jacquie,

The Ativan sounds like a great idea, because you are already nerves, it should just take the edge off and you'll be fine. I think its a good idea. Even if you take it, just before you go in the salon.

So your neck is normal, well thats good news. And you like your hair longer, thats also good. Explain to the stylist that you are looking to keep most of the length, maybe just a trim, and then something to help with volume, he will probably add some small amount of layering. Layering is good with blow drying, it helps fullness. Also a good shampoo, product that helps with building body. Stay away from heavey conditioners.

As for coloring, its a great idea, but you will have to touch up at least every 4-6 weeks, so remember it is an upkeep. If it makes you happy do it, if you want to think about it, then take time and think about it.

I myself, keep my hair colored and highlighted (but of course!!!) I love how it makes me feel. And yes, the grey will change the texture of your hair. My grey has made my hair much more coarse. Grey hairs are different in texture, usually not as soft (but everyones different, this is just average info).

Ask him to shape your bangs, so that they are not so bluntly cut. This adds softness around the face.

If you decide to color, NEVER go dark. It always brings out your wrinkles. Keep things lighter if anything.

I am here for you!!! So are the others.

Hugs~Jules
Juliann
Sorry, I missed your question on the layering. Long layers are found more towards the bottom of the hair, or even mid to bottom. Shorter layers, will take to much of your already thin hair, and make it look to sparse. Keep the layers long, and maybe like Alice said, you can do some wispys around the face???

I'm so excited for you! Jules
joliejacq
Hi Jules & Alice,

THANKS SO MUCH, and a couple more questions?

Layering around the face - not Farah Fawcetty? Does it just bring the ends of a bobbish cut in some?

How do you feel about home coloring, especially the wash-out-after-a-month-or-so kind? I don't think I could afford to do salon coloring regularly. Are there any decent products out there?

Well, I hope you've had a good weekend - how the days fly, huh? And I hope you got some good downtime Jules, and are ready to start in again tomorrow!

When is your daughter coming? What are you doing for Easter?

And Alice, what are you doing for Easter? Do you have traditional ham dinners there? It's really the traditional meal here. How about hot cross buns - are they popular? All the bakeries and supermarkets offer them here. Didn't they originate in England, the cross on the top to represent the Christian cross? I think there's an old Mother Goose rhyme about hot cross buns.

Well, have a good week! Love you guys!

Jacquie
Juliann
Hi Jacquie,

Love to hear from you, and I guess I'm getting kinda addicted to it, lol. Its good for my "peri" soul. Anyway, guess what I wound up doing today, a million bucks says you won't guess tongue.gif WE WENT WITH OUR SON TO PICK OUT AN ENGAGEMENT RING!!! Yes, he is going to ask her to marry him on friday, which is her 24th birthday. His house closed escrow on last friday, so he wants to get this going. Oh brother, we were at the mall for 4 hours looking at rings. Anyway he bought one and it will be ready hopefully by Wednesday.

Easter will be nice, we will attend a production at our church, and then I'll make dinner. I haven't planned to much for it, as life keeps me going way to much.

Daughter comes home April 6th for 2 weeks. And I still haven't used the new exercise equipment, who's got time, lol.

Now about your hair. I think the term could be called "face framing layers". These are not like Farah, hers flipped back, yours would go towards the face. As for home coloring, I don't know. Wash out colors are colors that do not penetrate the hair cortex. They only coat the hair shaft. This coating tends to build up over time, important not to keep overlapping or color gets darker, or could get strange looking green tones to them. I will ask around, we never use store products and I would be hard pressed to recommend one, but for you, I will look into it. What color are you thinking about?? Browns, blondes, auburns??? Plus I need to know what shade your hair is now??? To get a good result, color is a bit tricky, and depends on what your starting with.

How are things going otherwise, gee the cross buns sound good, I have never made them. I keep checking our newspaper for weather, and I always look at Maine, and it still has the little snowflake on it, sorry!!!! But we are in for a week of RAIN, so I can put my little sunscreen away, thought you'd get a giggle on that!!

No work for me until Wednesday, I took an extra day off. Needed to just relax and get things done, yea right, I'll just veg out anyway.

Love ya, Jules
alice3
I use Excellence by L'Oreal to colour my hair. It's very natural looking as the hair doesn't go all one colour. Many people didn't even know I coloured! I have long, shoulder length hair that is cut from it's longest length up to my chin at the front.

Actually, if you styled like Farrah you'd be back in fashion. I see that even those 70's hideous prints (which I didn't like even then!) are back too!

It's a leg of lamb for Easter Sunday lunch. Sometimes we have turkey. Yes we have hot cross buns and simnel cake. http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/r_0000001096.asp. (Delia is one of our most famous TV cooks - you may find other things of interest).

Also chocolate cakes and buns with candy coated mini choc eggs on top. This ain't a sugar free zone!

I'm real going to try hard to cut down on sugary foods as I think it does add to anxiety - or at least makes you hyper!
joliejacq
Thanks, Buds!

Simnel cake? That's a new one... It looks so beautiful! Do you make your own, Alice? What's "golden marzipan?" I've only seen the little fruit-shaped marzipans. The sound of putting this in the cake and having it MELT there - oooohhh.

I had hot cross buns and coffee for breakfast this morning. smile.gif I LOVE this season!

Hey, Jules is going to another wedding!!! It is UTTERLY SWEET that your boy took you with him to shop for the ring. smile.gif Well, this will be a big week with an engagement! How is he going to ask her - is he taking her to a restaurant, or a place that's special to them? Lovely, lovely. She will be thrilled!

Oh, thanks for the info about the hair coloring. I certainly don't want to go green! blink.gif I don't mind the thought of going naturally gray. There are women who have just the most beautiful shade of white/gray - if I knew mine would do that, it'd be just fine! My hair is medium brown (eyes the same), so I know I can't go too light. Once, when I was 16 I had my hair dyed platinum blonde (really). It took an entire day in the hairdresser's shop, several "strippings," and the next day I woke up to find my scalp full of big sores. There's still a baldish spot on the upper back of my head from this nasty experience - the stupidity of youth! (and yet, and yet.... I have NEVER gotten so much attention from men as when I was a blonde!!!)

Well, Jules, I hope you enjoy your extra time off, and heck, why NOT veg out? Sure sounds to me like you work hard enuf as it is, and you'll be hosting the Easter thing this weekend. Enjoy lounging around!

Yesterday I babysat the grandkids - whew!!! They are the cutest little things, though, ages 5 and 22 months. I let them make their own ice-cream "concoctions" with various syrups and candies, and when they were thru' these looked so utterly gross!! The 5 year old had even overwhelmed herself and only took a few bites, but the baby just scoffed it all up!!

We took them for a long walk - it was 40 DEGREES out, and EVERYONE in the neighborhood was walking or bike-riding! We put the baby on a trike for the first time - her little feet didn't even reach the pedals, but you could see she felt like a "big girl." Big smile on her face while I broke my back scooching over to push her from behind. There IS a reason we have our children young!

Hope you guys have the joy of grandkids one day. It's really become a cliche, but in my experience these little tykes have touched a part of my heart that nothing before has ever seeped quite that deeply into. When they wrap their little arms around you and offer that sloppy kiss - who could EVER resist?

Okay, done crooning about the grandkids now! laugh.gif

Hope you guys both have a wonderful week. I put my butt into the hairdresser's chair on Wednesday - send up a prayer for me that I don't shake so hard I fall out! Thanks for ALL your wonderful advice!!!
