Full Version: Question about tampons

I have never used tampons and now my periods are so heavy I thought I'd give them a try. Well, I feel so naive about them, but maybe you can help me. When I put in a tampon I start leaking through when I go to the bathroom. Is that because the tampon is full or because I didn't put it in right? Also, I am using the Super Tampons and they only seem to last about 20 minutes to a half an hour and then I am leaking. I am wearing pads with the tampon, but having to change the tampon so often is a hassle. Is it normal for a tampon to have to be changed so soon? Thanks so much!

I too am unable to wear tampons. At first I though it was from the doc that delivered my last child. He did some stitching that he & my husband thought would be a good idea. Barbarians anyway! The real reason is that I have uterine prolapse, so the tampon is inneffective in controlling the flow. It just can't handle the flooding and clots. While my prolapse is not advanced enough for corrective surgery, at least I know what is going on. Due to childbirth and being an athlete most of my life, things just stretch & sag. I don't know if this is part of your problem, but it is worth a check by your OB/GYN. MK

Dear Squirrel, Are you sure you're putting it in right? It has to get through the first set of muscles and lodge with the string hanging out.
