I can't seem to shake ringing in my ears along with sleeplessness. Any suggestions or similarities? Thanks thanks for your response.

I get the ringing in the ears also from time to time. Once in a while it drives me CRAZY because it's continuous for hours on end! When it happens at night it is very annoying. The doctor said that it's some form of tinnitus and couldn't find anything wrong, so I just try to grin and bear it when it happens sad.gif I just keep telling myself that SOMEONE is talking about me, as the old saying goes! Don't have a clue what to do about it, so I can't give you any help there, sorry! But you sure aren't alone.....hang in there! HUGGERS! Kleeo

thanks kleeo it always helps to have company.

I have been having this ringing in my ears for about two months now it is maddening. Do any of you get a continuous ringing sound in your head or do you get coming and going ringing?
Kleeo
Hi Nina, with me it varies. Sometimes I get the 'coming and going' ringing, other times it's a contstant 'light ringing' in the ears. BUT the good thing is, it always goes away! Hope this helps! Huggers! Kleeo

Hi, Tinnitus is an old friend. I had a high-pitched ringing in the left ear for a couple years; this was very bothersome, and thankfully, one day it just went away. Not long after, I began wondering if some trucker was parking nearby, letting his truck idle all night long. The things we tell ourselves! Turns out I have this low rumble in the right ear, only hear it at night when everything's quiet. I've had extensive ear testing; it's just part of getting older, they tell me. I've heard gincko biloba can help this, but haven't yet tried it. My doc has recommended I get a "white-noise" machine - they sell these at drug stores, plays sounds of the ocean, etc. Haven't bought one yet; I prefer to just think of some guy snoozing in his truck til' morning comes. wink.gif
MaryGR
Thanks everyone for your responses. It seems to be cooling down slightly. Had a mri and nothing can be found so that is good news.
Kleeo
Hey Jolie, I DID get a white noise machine about 3 months ago, and it does help me sleep! Mine has the sounds of rain, ocean waves, running brook and tropics and it's great! I normally use the waves because the sound of the ocean has always helped me sleep! I happen to live on the ocean, and what convinced me to buy one was the nights that the tide is really high and you can hear the waves, it would almost calm me. You really should try it! Some can be really expensive, but the one I bought was only $19.95! Huggers! Kleeo

The Tinnitus, or ringing in the ears, is often caused by a medication you may be taking. It can also be caused by anxiety. It can also be caused by allergies. I get erratic Tinnitus (heaven forbid it should be something erotic). Sometimes it's there. Sometimes it's not. I especially hear it when I'm not feeling well. I know how annoying it can be. I look at it this way. I live with internal shaking, so the ringing in the ears gives it some rhythm and a "beat." Listen, to each his/her own. If you've got a better way of looking at it, more power to you! biggrin.gif Dearest

(((DEAREST!))) lol! I am laughing so hard at your post! Erotic tinnitus! Sounds like fun!!! And hey, if you can have a rhythm and a beat, you go girl! Thank you for the grin! HUGGERS! Kleeo

Hi everyone, I also get the ringing in the ears, like a high pitched siren, I only get it when I am really tired and worn out. If I sit down and relax it usually goes away, I always thought that not breathing properly could cause it too. Luv Jenniffer

I hear and feel a weird noise in my ears which I positively know is hormonal. I've had it since my twenties, and only got it then when I got my period. I have it now too, since I started taking hormones.

Hi fellow surgers: I just used a little dab of progesterone cream on my wrist and low and behold my ears have started ringing. Is the progesterone cream responsible for this??? I cut back on the Biest Cream as my symptoms appear to be subsiding, then tonight I get this "ringing" in my ears. Any info on Progesterone and ear ringing I will be glad to hear. Oh brother, not another meno symptom, GEEEEZZZ, what next?sad.gif
jimi
thisisbull - love your name lol - says it all! tongue.gif You did say you put the creme on your wrists..........wink.gif This is a new one...must be a coincidence? One would wonder how progesterone creme could possibly affect your inner ear? ...Can it? Anyone got any info on this? I have no idea....I am curious as well. I thought tinnitus was more to do with ear drum damage through working with machinery and stuff?

I've had ringing in my ears, tinnitus, for three years and it started when I started perimenopause. I've been to the ENT and my hearing is fine. Tinnitus is hard to find a cause for it occurring. I found at night when it's quiet it is hard to sleep so I went to Sharper Image and got a sound machine. I like the ocean sound or white noise and put it on at night. This way you do not hear the ringing - works great. Also, I have internal shaking and the Dr. thought I was crazy that I feel like my shaking and tinnitus are at the same level. Which by that I mean, it's almost like I'm hearing my body shake. Of course, he looked at me like I was a nut job. But that's exactly how it feels.

Don't you think that reading the Power Surge posts on a daily basis should be required reading for those in the medical profession? I really think it would open many eyes and minds.
MaryO
Great idea, snephers!

I get a buzz, not a ring, and I've had it for about 4 1/2 years. It's tinnitis. I took ginko biloba for all that time and I still had it. sad.gif I've just started taking lipoflavanoids (made by Numark Lab) but it takes a while to take affect. Supposedly they have done a lot of research that indicates that it's been successful with this and Meniere's disease. The sound machine helps a bit at night. I find I have to fall asleep w/ the tv on for the noise to divert attention away from the buzz! I wish it was related to menopause/peri-menopause, but I don't think so.sad.gif

After I started taking Calcium, Magnesium and B-Complex 3 days ago, I had a high pitched ringing in my ears. I thought that B-Complex had something to do with it...After I stop taking the B-Complex and still continue to take Calcium & Magnesium, the ringing is still there. I did more research on the side effects of ringing in the ears and found that Magnesium and Calcium could be casuing my ringing. So I am stopping all of the supplements as of today. I will let you know by the end of the week if the ringing has stopped. I never had ringing like this before until I started taking these supplements. Strange that when I was researching ringing in ears I found that most people say take these supplements to stop the ringing.

So read below and I hope this helps anyone.

Magnesium Aluminum Alloy: found in some incendiary mixtures. Acute exposure may irritate the respiratory tract. Symptoms may include coughing, shortness of breath, sore throat and runny nose. If sufficient amounts are inhaled and absorbed, symptoms may resemble those in acute ingestion. Skin contact may cause irritation with symptoms of redness, swelling, itching and pain. Ingestion may cause gastroenteritis (inflammation of the lining membrane of the stomach and intestines) with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Systemic effects may follow and may include ringing of the ears, dizziness, elevated blood pressure, blurred vision and tremors. Magnesium oxide fume is a by-product of burning magnesium.

Magnesium Powder: found in some tracer mixtures. Dust may cause irritation to upper respiratory tract. Inhalation of fumes may results in “leukocytosis”. Contact may cause irritation of skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Inhalation may irritate the respiratory tract. Symptoms may include coughing, shortness of breath, sore throat and runny nose. If sufficient amounts are inhaled and absorbed, symptoms may resemble those in acute ingestion. Health effects of chronic exposure are unknown.

Calcium Resinate: found in some tracer mixtures. Acute exposure through inhalation may irritate the respiratory tract. Symptoms may include coughing, shortness of breath, sore throat and runny nose. If sufficient amounts are inhaled and absorbed, symptoms may resemble those in acute ingestion. Acute skin contact may cause irritation with symptoms of redness, swelling, itching and pain. Acute eye contact may cause irritation with symptoms of redness, swelling, itching, tearing and pain. Acute ingestion may cause gastroenteritis (inflammation of the lining membrane of the stomach and intestines) with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Systemic effects may follow and may include ringing of the ears, dizziness, elevated blood pressure, blurred vision and tremors. Information on health risks associated with long-term exposure not found.
