I haven't really been experiencing hot flashes but last night I felt like I had a continual hot flash for several hours. It was unusually mild in NYC (about 45 degrees at 9pm) and we had the windows open all night.
My question is how long does a hot flash last and can it last in duration? I'm starting to think that it may have been anxiety that created that hot feeling. (For some reason I'm having an awful bout w/feeling anxious (my period is due).
Any views on this?
Thanks as always,
EJ

Hi EJ. Check out the Hot Flashs Forum or Thread for more info. on this. I don't doubt that hot flashs could last a long time, although the ones that I have had and heard about last for minutes, not hours. Also I found out that stress does trigger hot flashs - I found that thinking about certain subjects would bring on a hot flash for me. I think that the stressful thought comes in as the "straw that broke the camel's back".
Hi Beth
Thanks for your response. I have no doubt that stress is playing a major factor although I have no conscious cause for the stress.
I just got my period after missing a month and perhaps the whole peri thing has something to do w/it but I find that I have been anxious for the past couple of days.
Although I saw my GYN in August most of the symptoms were not prevalent at that time. I think I'll schedule another appt post New Year for peace of mind.
Thanks again and have a happy New Year!
EJ
